[Coworking] Router Advice

2017-10-20 Thread Kevin Haggerty
Cowork Gloucester VA opens the doors officially on November 1st!

We just had the Internet installed today, and now we need a router that will do
the trick.

I know we will eventually need access points (and I've been reading up on that
in this forum), but starting off, we don't much of a budget to work with, and
we don't have enough members to really justify a robust setup.

For right now, we will have everyone in one floor (which is roughly
1000-1200sqft), with two private offices, a conference room, and a shared
lounge/coworking area.

I don't anticipate there being a ton of bandwidth used, and right now, there
are only 5 members (plus several others who will be popping in part time).

Can anyone make a suggestion for a router that can handle this kind of traffic?
We can upgrade later when the traffic justifies doing so. We just need
something for getting started that does a good job but isn't too costly.

Thanks!

[Coworking] Re: New to the group, new to coworking!

2017-10-20 Thread Mark
Hi Alex,

Welcome to the group!

Like you, I've only come across coworking recently and I'm now in the
process of absorbing everything related to the subject. I'm looking to open
a space here in the UK and I can confirm that you have entered a world (and
a Google Group) of some incredibly supportive, open and friendly people!

One of the things that has been suggested to me was to attend a conference,
so I'm heading to the Coworking Europe Conference next month - not sure if
there are any near you?

Anyway, best of luck with your learning - I hope you find this group as
useful as I have.

All the best

Mark

Re: [Coworking] Network, Server, Authentication Recommendations

2017-10-20 Thread Jacob Sayles
Chris,

It sounds like you need dedicated IT help and I don't think a remote
consultant will cut it. I know that's a tall order but what you are asking
for is extensive. It's too much to expect Nexudus (or any software
platform) to pick up the slack or that you can just hire someone to build
it and then it will hum along without maintenance. I know most spaces do
not have an IT person and run in to similar issues. The best strategy I've
seen to operate without help is to greatly simplify things. That means
giving up on a lot of the things you are asking for here even though they
are pretty straight forward. But hosting a dinner for 200 people is
straight forward... if you are a catering company.

When I get more settled up here in Vancouver I'd like to pull together a
collective of IT professionals helping Coworking spaces. If anyone is
interested, please reach out.

Jacob

[Coworking] New to the group, new to coworking!

2017-10-20 Thread Alex Longoria
Hi! -- I'm Alex!

I'm the community/operations manager for Greenway Central in Austin, TX.
I have been here for about 4 months and we just had our grand opening!
Before being hired at GWC, I had never even heard of coworking and my
boyfriend who used to work at a small startup explained that he used to
work in a well-known coworking space called Capital Factory.
Now I'm trying to absorb as much information as possible about it!

I found this group at the suggestion of many veteran coworking owners and
managers in Austin - Shelley Delayne from Orange Coworking (my coworking
mentor!), Liz Elam from Link coworking, and Felicity Maxwell at Fibercove.
This group has literally been suggested to me by EVERYONE in the coworking
world that I have met so far.

My goal here is to learn more about coworking, connect and network with
others in the local and global coworking community, and grow as an
endeavoring entrepreneur.

Thank you so much and I'm happy to be here! :)

[Coworking] Calendly and similar scheduling services

2017-10-20 Thread jenne
Hi Co-workers!

My name is Jenne, I am the Community Manager at BKLYN Commons. I'm super
excited to join this Google Group, our company is only two years old and I
am a few months fresh to the job- I am looking forward to learning so much
from each of you.

The first question I have; I am assisting with the revamp of our website
and we are currently using Calendly. While Calendly is fine, I am curious
to know if anyone has experience with other scheduling services that they
find provides a better guest experience?

Any and all feedback is welcomed!

[Coworking] Network, Server, Authentication Recommendations

2017-10-20 Thread Anthony Oren
Hi Chris,

Just curious why you had a bad experience with Nexudus? The platform
integrates nicely with MikroTik devices. We’re experimenting with getting MT to
play well with non-MT routers but if it works should be good all around system
for Management & security of any shared work space.
