[Coworking] Re: New CoWorking? Regus Business Lounge in Cupertino

2008-04-17 Thread felicity at cubes

Well, for those of us down the street from Cupertino, it will
be interesting to see. We are getting many more coworkers
without children in at CubesCrayons, so I wonder if this will
be a positive for us or not. I will go check out the site and
let everyone know my thoughts in the next week.

Be interesting to see how this pans out.

It's somewhat disconcerting to see something so corporate in its web
front end, not so much transparency as you find in the grassroots
coworking models... fill out a form and a representative will contact
you with pricing? and no names listed.

And of course, there's that thing about not actually using the word
coworking on the website, or being present on this list or the blog...
Regus, anyone lurking out there who would care to make community
contributions if you're wanting to take advantage of the movement?

   P.S. $300/year for unlimited coffee and black-and-white
printing/copying? I wonder about the profile of who this will
attract...and the vibe in the spaces. While I understand the intent
around the business traveler as audience, and it appears the real
value is in the membership being usable at ALL the spaces, I can
   imagine some sub-optimal scenarios.

P.P.S. While googling Coworking Regus to find any connections, I
came across this German biz school paper on coworking, which feels a
little older because it cites the long-ago-closed Gate 3 WorkClub but
not any of the last-2-years SF spaces. It does have some intriguing
   references to Das Project coLabor.

Regus has just opened a business lounge in Cupertino. It works
on a membership basis. Memberships are $300/year and include
Wi-Fi, unlimited specialty coffee drinks, and black and white
printing and copying. The place has a very cool vibe to it too.
