Re: [cross-project-issues-dev] status of the help center

2024-02-29 Thread Ed Merks via cross-project-issues-dev

The info center is still managed/handled by Fred Gurr via these jobs:

  https://ci.eclipse.org/simrel/view/infocenter/

Fred factored out the help center stuff into a separate GitHub repository:

https://github.com/eclipse-simrel/help.eclipse.org

It's on my activities list to remind him about the info center the day
before the release (but I have been known not to notice that until the
actual day of the release).

I'm not exactly sure how the https://www.eclipse.org/documentation/ page
is managed, so I'm not sure a help desk issue is need or an issue in
this Git repository:

https://github.com/eclipse-simrel/help.eclipse.org/issues

It seems to me that updating that page should be part of the steps after
creating the 2024-03 info center, so not only would it be good to fix
the missing entries but it will be good to create the new entry for the
2024-03 results.  As such, I created this issue:

https://github.com/eclipse-simrel/help.eclipse.org/issues/1

If so, also https://www.eclipse.org/documentation/ needs a refresh
(already one release behind).

Also I'd like to know the schedule of such update, because a N entry
of mine (web version) wants to link into javadoc that should
eventually be available from the help center. This means it would be
nice, if the link can be set *before* the release.

Bonus question: I seem to recall that there was generic syntax so that
the same content works within help in the IDE as well as in the web
version. Anyone know? Or am I dreaming? :)

thanks

It should be - it is normally done right before release, but after SimRel
is built.

The release week checklist is
https://github.com/eclipse-simrel/.github/blob/main/wiki/SimRel/Release_Checklist.md

Not sure who does that - it isn't on the release checklist above. I suspect
the Eclipse webdev team takes care of it, along with updates to similar
pages (like https://eclipseide.org/). I have raised
https://gitlab.eclipse.org/eclipsefdn/helpdesk/-/issues/4368 to track this
issue where we can discuss further with the webdev team who normally
supports our efforts in this area.

I have had the same annoyance in the past with not being able to link to
the latest help until the release week. See this discussion
https://gitlab.eclipse.org/eclipsefdn/helpdesk/-/issues/505 where we
previously discussed publishing helpcentre info before release.

Note that there is a background discussion to remove the generated Javadoc
from the help https://github.com/eclipse-platform/.github/discussions/108

Don't know on this one.

[cross-project-issues-dev] status of the help center

2024-02-29 Thread Stephan Herrmann via cross-project-issues-dev

Will https://help.eclipse.org be updated with content for 2024-03?
