[cross-project-issues-dev] Unable to contribute to Mars... very frustrated

2015-05-05 Thread Konstantin Komissarchik
For years, I've had a working setup that allowed me to update Sapphire's
simrel contribution. With changes to use Gerrit, I am no longer able to
contribute. I've spent hours reading various wikis and I still cannot figure
out what keys I need to have and where I am supposed to shove them. Maybe
this stuff makes sense to someone already versed in Gerrit and SSH, but it
doesn't make sense to me.

Frankly, this is a massive step in the wrong direction. Contributing to
simrel should be made easier, not more difficult.

I have a couple more hours I can devote to this at the maximum. If I can't
figure out how to get back to a working configuration in that time, I am
taking Sapphire out of Mars.

Thanks,

- Konstantin

Konstantin,

I just suffered through this, too. This is a lot more painful than it
should be. I managed to narrow it down to two steps to get my previous
setup working:

1) Upload your public key to https://git.eclipse.org/r/#/settings/ssh-keys

2) Change your current remote.origin.pushurl to
ssh://committer-id@git.eclipse.org:29418/simrel/org.eclipse.simrel.build
(Right click on your org.eclipse.simrel.build git repository, select
properties, find remote.origin.pushurl and edit the value.)

Then it is back to using Git as normal.

I wish it did. Unfortunately, this is one of those content-free doc pages. I
can see those preference pages well enough on my own. Doesn't help in
knowing what I am supposed to do with them.

So I go to SSH2 - Key Management - Generate RSA Key

Yay! So far so good. Apply, close dialog, re-open, key is gone, what the
f**k!

2015-05-05 Thread Doug Schaefer
Yeah, that caught me for a while the first time too.

If you push directly to the master branch, it goes straight in without going
through the Gerrit review part. In that case Gerrit is just an over-engineered
git server.

You only see it in Gerrit if you push to gerrit, I.e. refs/for/master, in which
case, it’ll show up in your list of Changes on gerrit.eclipse.org.

Doug.

Yeah, the key on Windows is to make sure the SSH2 home on the General tab
points to some where useful, like C:\Users\dschaefer\.ssh, and that you click
the Save Private Key button to save it there.

2015-05-05 Thread David M Williams
I've not looked, so don't know if this is the issue, but the VALIDATE,
BUILD, and CLEAN_BUILD jobs meant to run one after the other with
VALIDATE being based on Git change and the other two being based on
successful previous step. BUILD and CLEAN_BUILD take as their input,
what was used in the previous step (based on Git hash) ... so,
occasionally will take a while for them to catch up. Especially the
CLEAN_BUILD (which is one remaining piece of work for bug 462859 -- need
to be able to skip some of them that have been queued up, since they
take so long.)

If you are seeing something besides that, let me know and I'll look
closer.

To create a Gerrit review instead of pushing directly, push to branch
refs/for/master instead of master. This creates the review and the
validation job starts ASAP.

So what should I have done if I wanted to exercise the new verifier
feature?

To create a Gerrit review instead of pushing directly, push to branch
refs/for/master instead of master. This creates the review and the
validation job starts ASAP.

Personally, I always add the remote review url as described in [1], so I
just have to 'git push review' my changes.

Have you uploaded your SSH key to Gerrit ?
https://wiki.eclipse.org/Gerrit#SSH_Keys

It would require having such a key in the first place. I understand
the theory of it and I’ve seen tools to gen key pairs, but I don’t
know where I am supposed to stash the private key, for instance so
that it will hookup with the public key on Gerrit.

If you have your keys generated with openssh, they are put in the
regular ~/.ssh folder, which Eclipse and EGit will use. So just
generating the keys should be enough.

Did you try to use HTTPS instead ?
https://wiki.eclipse.org/Gerrit#Git_over_HTTPS

Yep. Tried this URL:

https://kkomissarc...@git.eclipse.org/r/p/simrel/org.eclipse.simrel.build.git

Getting “not authorized” when trying to push.

Ok, that's not a very helpful error message.
Is this URL the same as the one you see in
https://git.eclipse.org/r/#/admin/projects/simrel/org.eclipse.simrel.build
when selecting HTTP ? Gerrit had an issue with some users in the past,
creating different Gerrit users for the same account.

Does your remote sets correctly your HTTPS password ( visible at
https://git.eclipse.org/r/#/settings/http-password ) in EGit?

Use the Gerrit workflow. The Hudson job watches Gerrit for change requests and
fires off a job when it sees one.

Thanks, Doug! The “save private key” button was the magic step that I was

Now I am able to fetch the repo and push my change, but I am not done yet, am

Nope. it's in:
http://git.eclipse.org/c/simrel/org.eclipse.simrel.build.git/commit/?id=718277402528603ca8c2522b5c05180e3d64f215

I'll add a note in the paragraph

to make clear that this workflow doesn't trigger a Gerrit review.
