 Dear all,
 as you can see, my english resources are scattered through 2
 directories. I've realized that although Google seems to like these
 resources, this is not the best solution for my English-speaking
 readers. So I've created a 3d-level domain on www.css-zibaldone.com.
 Now I ask you: what features would you like to see here? Please choose

 1. Tutorials on CSS: from beginner to pro

 3. Demos (clonings, prototypes, etc.)

4.1 JavaScript
4.2 DOM
4.3 SVG

 Help me to build a great new site. Thanks!

 G. ^.^/

Hi Gabriele (are you Italian like me?),

I think that will be useful for you to make a Projects page with your work,
both to make other know your competence and to inspire someone else viewing
the solutions you applied.

For the CSS point of view (and to avoid being OT...) I think that might be
more useful to develop point 4 instead of point 1. There is a huge bunch of
CSS basics material out there, more or less intuitive, simple and/or
complete.
Instead, there is little about CSS and particular integration with SVG and
XML. Even Javascript and behaviour with the DOM are important subjects to
analyse: there is some material about but the more is the better...

Your examples about CSS/XML you pointed out some e-mail ago in this mailing
list were very interesting.
Bye.

[css-d] footer not always sticking to bottom of window

2009-01-05 Thread Debbie Campbell
I've tried footerstickalt and a few other sticky footer methods but am
still having problems - this is FF only (not yet checked in other
browsers until I get this working correctly).

 http://www.redkitecreative.com/projects/endorphin/index_footer.php

The footer stays at the bottom of the window until you decrease the size
of the window, then a gap appears below the footer.

I just need to have the footer stay at the bottom without riding up over
the content in #main and #sidebar. Thanks for your help.

I do not think you will be able to avoid the footer riding up in a

depth of the content in the main or sidebar. With luck someone will

Which version of IE are you looking at? As best I know, IE6 does not
support the hover ability and you have to write a javascript for it. I
could be wrong and someone with a little bit more extensive knowledge may be
able to aid you along, but this may shed a bit of light of what's going on
in IE.

Hi Aubrey,

Try this:
div.bg
   {
 /* Add this to avoid margin collapsing */
 padding-top: 1px;
   }
div.container
   {
 /* Remove this
 top: 127px;*/
 /* Change to margin-top; keeps the element in the document flow */
 margin-top:  127px;
   }

I only tested it in Firefox 3/Ubuntu Ibex, but it should work well in
other browsers, too, I think.

Hope it helps.

Not sure exactly how to fix it, but I see you absolutely position the span
that contains the larger image using left, right, *and width. That is likely
confusing IE. Try taking out the width.

Be aware that IE 5 and 6 will not stretch an A.P. box by using both
left and right. You may need a different approach for those browsers.

Cordially,
David

This should get you moving in the right direction:

You'll want to run your page through the W3C's page validator (you've
misused the ID attribute a couple of times - each id=[value] must be
unique to a given page):
http://validator.w3.org/

Next, put a width [equal to your widest image + borders + padding = 612]
on the div wrapping your full-sized-image-display-area (the first div
with id=body) and delete [margin: 0 15px 0 15px;] and [left: 0px; top:
0px;].

 From this:
div style=margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; margin: 0 15px 0
15px; position: relative; width: 96%; z-index: 2; left: 0px; top: 0px;
background-color: #050505; margin-top: 15px; margin-bottom: 15px;
id=body class=style11

To this:
div style=position:relative; width:612; margin-left:auto;
margin-right:auto; margin-top:15px; margin-bottom:15px; z-index:2;
background-color:#050505; id=body class=style11
http://validator.w3.org/
That should get you centered in IE7.

2009-01-05 Thread Ingo Chao

 This one is complicate...why the padding and margin so large.
 ...

In the OneTrueLayout method [Robinson], floating columns of unknown height
are wrapped by a container element. All columns get more length by an
excessive padding. This would let the containing element expand in height.
But the same length is subtracted from the columns by a negative margin. The
excessive padding area now hangs out of the container that did not change
its height. Finally, overflow: hidden cuts the overhang on the bottom edge
of the container.
[http://www.satzansatz.de/cssd/companions.html]

Maybe a faux columns technique plus Footer Stick Alt would be easier to
implement.
I know this is not what you were asking for, but frame-like pages with a
fixed footer at the bottom of the window are not that simple.

This is not Footer Stick Alt. In the article by Cameron Adams, see the
padding-bottom in the content area to make room for the footer that is
offset upwards.

You are offsetting #content downwards by positioning it relatively. Note CSS
2.1: 9.9.1: Offsetting a box (B1) in this way has no effect on the box (B2)
that follows: B2 is given a position as if B1 were not offset and B2 is not
re-positioned after B1's offset is applied. This implies that relative
positioning may cause boxes to overlap.

Apply a red test background to #content. See the #content is sliding under
your footer. Again, this is not footer stick alt. Don't offset #content,
offset footer instead by its own height.

I can't figure out how to make the the full background-image appear on this
page. When you open the page at a height less than the height of the
background image (810px) and use the scrollbar to page down, the background
image and background color is cut off.

See if the following changes to your CSS do what you want.

html {
height:100%;
/*overflow:scroll;*/ /* delete */
}

div.bg {
margin:0 auto;
width:1000px;
min-height:100%;
background:#22112d url(images/bg_purple.jpg) no-repeat;
padding-top: 127px; /* add */
}

div.container {
margin-left:auto;
margin-right:auto;
/* position:relative;
top:127px; */ /* delete these two, also */
width:830px;
}
