[CTRL] Stargate Edinburgh

1999-03-08 Thread Andrew Hennessey

 -Caveat Lector-

well, I suppose that I'd better post this - It is a theory made out
of available evidence - I happen to think its pretty accurate -
see what you think.

Commis Beaumont wrote a book in 1923 called 'Britain Key to World History'
it is a revisionist history which puts the UK as the centre of most of the
best 'ancient action'. It is a book that is very hard to come by in the UK.
Prof Stephanos, a CIA lecturer in the USA currently holds the copyright.
The book says Many controversial things - and puts Edinburgh - as the source
and heart of the wandering tribes of Celtia and Israel.
Edinburgh was some sort of jerusalem in the ancient world, but has been the
victim of a conspiratorial ancient cover up. So what is the evidence
for this - is there any - and the answer is that the local masonic
establishment believes so.
Near Rosslyn on an aristocrats estate outside Edinburgh, there is an
archetectural folly in the woods built in the 18th century.
Berobed people descend into the crypt, and in true tradition of raiders of
the lost ark, put a rod a cubit long in a hole a beam of light comes
down the specially constructed shaft, and the resultant shadow - called
the 'tena brosa' is the shadow of the latitude of the 'real' Jersusalem.
Apparently, shadows vary because of the curvature of the Earth.
The ancient world, according to an expert in art of antiquity, had only the
resources to cast two massive bronzes in Rome. - of a horsed figure.
One stood in the Centre plaza of Rome, the other in 'Jerusalem'.
A bronze foot was excavated from a buried horde of loot in the Borders of
Scotland.
Recent excavation of a Funereal Lion from Cramond Edinburgh is a revelation
about the status of Edinburgh as no savage frontier town would have such
a statue - one of a pair.
We were all taught in school that hadrians wall was built to keep the savage
blue woad covered scots [aka mel gibsons braveheart] out of highly civilised
England - but that is a direct untruth.
The vellum or ditch of Hadrians Wall is on the English side - in other words
to keep the Southerners out of Scotland. To the North of the Forth valley and
Edinburgh is a second Roman Wall, the Antonine Wall, built to keep the
Northerners out of Central Scotland. A place of lead and silver mines,
agriculture and a place of incredible learning and druidic colleges.
Pontious Pilate was born North of Perth at Fortingale, Killin.
A PhD in Ethnology has found that all the place names of East Central
Scotland around Edinburgh have been either erased or changed.
Roman sign posts in that area have been defaced in that period.
What we ask was the incredible heresy committed in this area.
Of course, it doesn't suggest that what we know of Middle eastern
archaeology is fraudulent, but it suggests that Edinburgh aka Dun-Edain
[hill of the home
of the Gods] was a place which severely annoyed the Romans.
What else I know of the mystery I have gradually pieced together.
Arthurs Seat, hill of Edinburgh, the City of the Lion [of Judah] indicates
that the Arthurian mythos occured in the area. Merlins grave at Norham,
Camaelyn [camelot?] near Falkirk and Bonnybridge - and that area now one of
the most active UFO hotspots in the World.
Between Edinburgh and Bonnybridge in the so-called UFO triangle, it has
been reported by the Daily Record, that people have more chance of winning
the National Lottery than in anywhere else in the UK.
Edinburgh is a City surrounded by 7 Hills - a very revelation-like fact and
it is also full of Pretenders to a possible new throne and messiah.
Home of the New World Order trust funds in its Banking centre - and also
the Bloodline Chapel at Rosslyn - it could be poised to become a place where
at least the 'Second Coming of something' may wish to show face.
All the pretenders claim descent from Christ - some via the Magdelene line
or Rose-line.
Yes, but what was this ancient heresy that so p**d the Romans off,
and further medieval monks during the 14th Century further deleted and
distorted the place names and their meaning.

Well I got a clue one night when I bluffed my way into the local masonic
social club ... as one does ... and the locals are the salt of the Earth.
The place was packed and there was a wee guy doing an elvis style act, with
laser lights and smoke and spangly white suit and wiggling his hips about ..
then from the gallery came the enthusiastic exclamation from a lady ..
'gaun yersel Bilbo Baggins !' roughly translated into English 'continue
to parade your manhood fine fellow, you are emulating Bilbo Baggins'
to which people in the audience went 'S !!'
Having read Lord of the Rings I realised that Bilbo baggins was a master
of that dreaded evil ring thing that was responsible for the fall of decent
men [ie. women] and that that belief in the evil temptaions of women was
very Gnostic and another reason why women are not allowed in a Lodge.
But that made me realise that the Returning King [Elessar] was

Four Intelligence Scandals and a Culture War

Summary:

Four intelligence scandals blew up in the past week or so: A
blown U.S. intelligence collection operation in Iraq; Chinese
theft of nuclear weapons secrets from Los Alamos; the claim that
Israel's Mossad had taped Clinton having phone sex with Monica
Lewinsky and was using it to blackmail Clinton into stopping a
mole hunt for an Israeli agent in the White House; and suspicion
that Greece had traded U.S. and NATO jamming codes to the
Russians. However true each of these is, somebody has clearly
launched a campaign against the Clinton White House. Depending
on your point of view, this is either another in an endless
series of attempts by a vast right-wing conspiracy to discredit
the President or a desperate attempt to warn the country about
the incompetence or malfeasance of the Administration. But it
does not strike us as accidental that these four reports all hit
the major media within a few days of each other. We see a
"culture war" underway between the Clinton Administration and the
national security apparatus. Underlying it is a fundamental
disagreement as to the nature of the international system, the
threat faced by the United States and the appropriate policies
that ought to be followed.

Analysis:

What made last week remarkable was the sudden, simultaneous
emergence of four completely unconnected stories of espionage and
international duplicity. The stories varied widely over content
and time frame. What they had in common was that each involved
the United States in some way and all broke into the headlines
within a few days of each other. We present them here in no
particular order:

* A report in the Washington Post asserted that the Central
Intelligence Agency had placed agents on the staff of UNSCOM, the
United Nations unit that had been assigned to inspect Iraqi
weapons production facilities under UN Security Council
resolutions. Claims that the weapons inspectors were being used
by the CIA had been circulating for months. Indeed, Saddam
Hussein had created a major crisis when he decided not to permit
American members of the team into Iraq because they were,
according to him, CIA agents. Two things made the Post story
interesting. First, it provided some hints as to how the U.S.
had used UNSCOM remote monitoring to intercept Iraqi
communications. Second, the Post story appears to have
originated within official Washington circles and has not been
met with a spate of denials.

* The New York Times broke a story late in the week that claimed
that Chinese intelligence had penetrated Los Alamos National
Laboratory in New Mexico and that it had, over many years,
extracted technical information on the construction of
miniaturized nuclear warheads. Such miniaturization is critical
for the construction of warheads with multiple, independently
targeted, re-entry vehicles (MIRVs), which the United States and
Soviet Union had built, but which China had not been able to
construct until they had allegedly stolen plans from Los Alamos.
Apparently, the theft had been discovered in 1995, but according
to these reports, the Clinton Administration had deliberately
ignored the warnings because creating a public crisis would
interfere with the Administration's plans for engagement with
China. The Administration did not deny the espionage claim, but
did state that they had tightened security.

* The New York Post published a story claiming that a book
written by Gordon Thomas would claim that Israel's Mossad had
tapped Monica Lewinsky's phone (along with another, unnamed
intelligence agency) and had recorded her having phone sex with
the President. The story went on to claim that Mossad had used
the tapes to blackmail Clinton. The President then called off a
hunt for a suspected Israeli mole in the White House because of
Israeli threats that they would release the tapes. In a later
interview, Thomas backed off the blackmail claims, stating that
Danny Yatom, head of Mossad at the time, had ruled out blackmail.
He continued to maintain that Mossad had obtained the tapes.

* Last weekend, the Washington Post broke a story stating that
the United States had temporarily halted the sale of aircraft to
Greece. The reason was that evidence had come to light that
Greece, a U.S. ally and member of NATO, had provided the Russians
with extremely sensitive codes that would enable someone to jam
NATO aircraft. In exchange, according to the reports, Russia
gave Greece a system known as SPN-2, which would interfere with
the targeting capabilities of NATO aircraft. Presumably, Greece
would have used this system against Turkey. Once the reports
surfaced, Washington asserted that weapons sales to Greece would
resume, because

Copyright's Commons

Thank you for your interest in Copyright's Commons, a coalition devoted
to promoting the public availability of literature, art, music, and
film. We believe that a vibrant public domain is essential to preserving
and building upon our cultural heritage. The recent enactment of the
Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act has restricted access to
thousands of works that helped define the twentieth century and that had
been slated to at last enter the public domain. Copyright's Commons is a
collective voice in support of the effort in Eldred v. Reno to overturn
the copyright extension statute.

A strong public campaign is critical for a successful attack against
longer copyrights. Proponents of the statute include deep-pocketed
entertainment giants with a large financial stake in exploiting their
commercially viable works. Copyright's Commons represents the much
larger and therefore less concentrated majority who are harmed by a
diminished public domain - the local bands, choirs, theaters, and
libraries that must continue to pay for copyrighted materials; the
current artists who cannot build upon the ideas of a former generation;
and the general public without free access to important pieces of
American culture. A formidable opposition to copyright extension
ensures that Eldred v. Reno will be a high profile case in championing
the public interest. The case is essentially a fight to enforce the
Constitutional mandate for a "limited" period of copyright protection --
a balance, rather than an indefinitely extended government monopoly on
speech -- consistent with the overall promotion of the public good.

Copyright's Commons maintains this website as a forum for (public
domain, of course) discussions. We welcome all comments.

SoCal Concentration Camps - Locations In LA And Ventura Counties

From Don [EMAIL PROTECTED] - 3-7-99

Note - If any of you can get to these locations and take some photos, we
would appreciate seeing them and will add them to this story. Suggest you
use caution and take a zoom lens along. Thanks to Don for this information.

Concentration Camp Locations in Southern California
For all you disbeliever's and gun control idiots who think the government
knows best, I've compiled a short list of camps you can visit. These camps
have armed guards, surveillance systems, and many fences with the barbed wire
pointing IN. If you voted for gun-control, then you probably deserve a place
in one of these things, as you've sold not only you and your own children down
the road, but me and mine as well. Thanks a lot.

1. PEARBLOSSOM, CALIFORNIA: Located at the intersection of Ave 116 and the
Pearblossom Highway, this is a full-service facility, complete with gas
chambers, moat, machine gun towers, and roving armed patrols. Visit at your
own risk. If you do decide to see this one, you will be descended upon by some
very mean fellows, who will get your ID and license, then monitor you.

2. FILMORE, CALIFORNIA: Located on highway 126, this at first glance looks
like an orange grove and is located on the north side of the highway. It
sports guard centers, three--count em--three sets of fences, all pointing in,
and some very nasty armed men who tell you to "mind your own business." This
camp is huge.

3. SANTA PAULA, CALIFORNIA: This is a holding camp, designed as a stock-yard
type of facility for those rounded up in the early sweeps.

4. VALENCIA, CALIFORNIA: This is one of the largest camps ever constructed and
measures some two miles by three miles, using the resivoir at the intersection
of the 5 and 405 freeways as a cover. New buildings, armed guards, new roads,
and many hundreds of buildings for housing the damned.

5. GLENDALE, CALIFORNIA: Right behind Brand Park, take the 5 interstate to
Western Ave, then head north up the hill till you arrive at the park. Then
take the road -- by foot -- by the doctor's house on the northwestern part of
the park. Proceed up the hill to you reach the resivoir, which is in fact, a
holding facility. When we were there last, there were five armed guards with
M16s walking around.

Commentary on the Concentration Camps - By Don [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Dear friends,

Recently, I sent out to the various news media an extremely small list of
Concentration Camps recently built by your United States Government. As it
happens, very few journalists acted upon the information and shared it with
listeners/viewers/readers. Of course, once the information was made public,
I've now become slandered, attacked, and called all sorts of names and the
like. How interesting it is that when we bring truth to our world, the
messenger is killed, even if symbolically.

Many of us in the media have been aware of these hideous camps since their
inception. It only takes a look at the history of this century to know what
will happen in them once they are populated. The heart shudders at such
knowledge but ignoring it won't make it go away. The only answer is to get the
information out there in the world and make our elected government answer.

I've personally visited these camps and have taken pictures. They are REAL.
They are manned. They have moats, motion sensors, inner berms to hide the main
complexes, guards at the gates, electric gates, processing centers, and of
course, high fences with razor wire and barbed pointing inward - not outward -
but inward to KEEP PEOPLE IN.

The larger facilities are called golf courses or water treatment plants. When
was the last time you saw a golf course (Portland, Oregon) with armed guards
carrying M16s? Why do the larger facilities have smokestacks? Ever see a
crematorium? The smaller facilities are usually holding facilities, obviously
designed for the short-term roundups prior to the hapless souls being shipped
off to their final destination somewhere else.

You have to know that it was never my intention to uncover this information to
frighten anyone nor to get publicity, as so many claim. As my readers are well
aware, I stumbled upon this stuff in research for a new book. I have a family
and want to see them grow up and they want to have a father that is alive, not
dead. Reporting this type of information has made me very unpopular with the
government and I've been warned many times by the FBI to 'mind my own
business.' Unlike many of my contemporaries, I've chosen to research these
camp claims for myself.

I HAD to see them with my own eyes. They do exist. But the real question that
needs to be asked - and asked fast

[CTRL] Fwd: Concentration Camps FEMA New World Order Antichrist Conspiracy

1999-03-08 Thread Colleen Jones

This FEMA is really getting a rather bad name; the above subject matter,
or below subject matter, I thought might be of interest.

I have heard of the camps for some time now; on the west coast you have
AFB, and of course Denver area and Boulder is to do with the weather
modification system, radar, etc.

Quartering troops in time of peace; preparing for war; and if it be
true these are federal military civilian prisioner camps, isn't the
military crossing a line that is forbidden ...

This item is worth looking into; there is something going on As for
this Scott Ritter who was sacked from UN inspections; this man is the
worst possible type of a storm trooper type, who allegedly was employed
by the Massod to get something on Irag. I had a friend, MI6 who went on
UN tours, and he said of course you know what they areand winked.
Yes, I knew - and this guy once told me that if the CIA wanted to pay
him $300 a month to sit around in bars and drink beer - well. But the
CIA had the cute habit of sending his mail to his PO box, using CIA
envelopes which drew attention to him at times...this guy stood 6'7, had
gotten MS in India, retired out, but still remained in intelligence
work. Somehow he ended up in my office, but I did like him.

Now my old friends - most of them anyway - would have been right on this
stuff about concentration camps. If they are being built, I hope they
are for new commentators, late night talk show hosts, and Jerry Springer
and his castand I am glad we have a militia if the day is coming
when we have to take on the Feds in full scale war.

Amen.

Bananas and Drugs

Caribbean Community Threatens to Pull Out of Drug Treaty

The U.S. is punishing Europe for not punishing Caribbean bananas

Caribbean countries are threatening to renege on a treaty with the US to
fight drug trafficking in retaliation for Washington's stance in its
"banana war" with the European Union. The US moved to impose trade
penalties on the EU last week, accusing it of failing to comply with a
World Trade Organisation ruling that its banana import policies favoured
Caribbean growers at the expense of Latin American producers.

The Caribbean Community (Caricom), a 15-member regional trade group,
said at the weekend that its members were reconsidering the drug control
pact and would also not honour several economic pacts because of
Washington's decision to impose sanctions on European imports.

The Caribbean move came as the EU prepared to seek support today from
the 134 countries of the WTO at a meeting in Geneva.

Caricom said that, by imposing sanctions on EU exports, the US had
"undermined the essence" of agreements between Caribbean leaders and
President Bill Clinton two years ago on trade and security.

"The US has taken action not only to damage our bananas but to penalise
Europe for not taking action to damage our bananas," said Edwin
Carrington, Caricom's secretary general. "In the light of that, we have
to review the agreement we have."

Under a controversial treaty with the US, reluctantly signed by several
Caribbean governments, US law enforcement agencies are allowed to pursue
suspected drug traffickers into the countries' territorial waters and
air space.

The Caribbean stance will be formally put to Madeleine Albright, US
secretary of state, when she meets Caribbean Community foreign ministers
in Washington next month.

The UK has also been forcefully pressing the case for Caribbean
economies. On Saturday, Robin Cook, the UK foreign secretary, urged Ms
Albright to end the damaging dispute. In a statement released by the
Foreign Office, he said: "The damage to our trade could be real."

The British prime minister, Tony Blair, is expected to hold further
talks with Mr Clinton in an attempt to reach a settlement in the banana
dispute.

Mr Blair's spokesman said he was well aware that Washington was under
political pressure to apply sanctions to the EU. "We will see if there
is anything we can do to help the US administration overcome these
political issues," he said.

However, Mr Blair has already made it clear to Mr Clinton that
Washington must lift the sanctions immediately.

The UK government holds out little hope of the specially convened
meeting of the WTO in Geneva resolving the stalemate today.

The EU asked for the urgent meeting of the WTO's general council after
Washington last week told importers of EU products ranging from Scottish
cashmere sweaters to Italian pecorino cheese to post a bond of 100 per
cent of the goods' value.

The general council cannot force the US to back down but the EU hopes
WTO members will condemn Washington's action. The EU also launched a
formal WTO complaint against the US.

Assassination Politics

CIA Plotted Saddam Coup, but White House Pulled Out

Then FBI arrested 5-man CIA team

THE CIA mounted a coup operation against Saddam Hussein in 1995, even
setting March 4 as the date. But the plan was ditched at the last minute
when the White House withdrew support.
Details published in Le Journal du Dimanche in Paris follow disclosures
that the CIA infiltrated teams of United Nations weapons inspectors in
Iraq, among them nine officials, who were part of an attack being
mounted from Jordan in June, 1996. This went awry after Saddam
infiltrated a group of Kurdish dissidents on whom the agency was
relying. Dozens were executed.

The French newspaper said a five-man CIA team was put in place for the
earlier attempt. When it was called off they were arrested by the FBI
and charged with attempted murder. Gilles Delafon, a Middle Eastern
affairs specialist, said charges were dropped in 1996 and the five were
decorated for their work, but "the affair seriously shook CIA morale".

The CIA, respecting an order dating from the presidency of Gerald Ford
banning assassinations, planned a coup in which the Iraqi leader would
have been overthrown and replaced by five Iraqi generals. The strategy
was drawn up with the help of Gen Wafic al-Samarai, an Iraqi officer who
defected.

The plan involved an uprising by Kurds in the north of Iraq, while
military opponents of Saddam attacked the barracks where he had his
residence. But on the eve of the attack, the CIA team received a message
from Tony Lake, President Clinton's national security adviser, telling
them the White House did not back it.

The Coming Collapse of Public Education

by Don Lobo Tiggre

"It’s time to admit that public education operates like a planned
economy, a bureaucratic system in which everybody’s role is spelled out
in advance, and there are few incentives for innovation and
productivity. It’s no surprise that our school system doesn’t improve:
It more resembles the communist economy that our own market economy."

—Albert Shanker, former president, American Federation of Teachers

Albert Shanker is the same man who rocked the education establishment
even more by saying, than, teachers’ unions would start representing the
interests of the children when the children started paying union dues.
It is interesting to see such undisguised comments originating from
within the system, even as critics outside are becoming more and more
aware of the roots of public education in 19th century Prussian
production of cannon fodder, as last week’s Laissez Faire City Times
article on "Education: The Fifth Estate" demonstrated. However, more
interesting than the question of where public education came from is the
question of where trends in education are leading it.

The first trend to note is that the systems of public education are
broken, and that the disintegration is getting rapidly worse. The inner
cities are leading the trend, but even in rural America, where the metal
detectors have yet to appear at school doors, there is a growing
awareness among educators that a crisis is drawing nearer. The decay is
so clear that even the educrats in Washington, alarmed by the sinking
rankings of American students compared to students from other
industrialized countries—as low as 28th, in some comparisons—have made
serious-sounding noises about education reform. They are only noises of
course, but striking nonetheless for what they imply about the
situation, given that they are coming from the National Education
Association and the U.S. Department of Education.

The National Commission on Excellence in Education of the Department of
Education issued the "Nation at Risk" report in 1983, basically
documenting the slide in academic performance in American public schools
and warning that things needed to improve or the nation’s future would
be at great risk. In the sixteen years that have passed since "Nation at
Risk" was issued, we’ve seen a lot of so-called reform efforts. Half of
them seemed to be disguised calls for more money to conduct business as
usual under new names, and the other half seemed to be calls to "lower
the bar," under guise of fostering "creativity" and "self-esteem," so
that results could look better, even as they continued to slide.

But the educrats can’t hide the results of their pretenses forever.
According to a 1993 U.S. Department of Education study, even after many
of the least successful students have dropped out, fewer than 40 percent
of high school seniors are reading at or above grade level. Indications
are that the situation is much worse today.

A con job by any other name smells just as bad. Whether it’s called "A
Shift in Focus," the "Education Technology Initiative," "FACT"
(Families, Agencies, and Communities Together), or "Goals 2000," the
"reform" programs of the education establishment seem to have only one
goal: to keep the decrepit system going so the special interests who
profit from it can continue milking it.

This refusal to embrace any serious change, combined with the failures
of the alleged reforms to make any real improvements are changing the
nature of education in America. Consider the Goals 2000 program, which
current reports indicate will not have helped a single state to achieve
its educational goals by the year 2000. Many states will not even
achieve one quarter of their goals. Meanwhile, many parents are
realizing that the program further federalizes education and leaves
parents with even less control over what their children are taught. One
result of this sort of dismal failure is the acceleration of another
trend: privatization of education.

Voting with Their Feet

I don’t mean the "dream" of privatization, but the reality that is
sweeping the country. The various state-based think tanks are leading
valiant charges against the heavily defended "Seminary Ridge" of
state-funded educational monopoly, pushing for tax credits in one state,
or vouchers in another. For every advance made in one place, however,
there’s a "Pickett’s Charge" in another where the pro-educational choice
activists are all but crushed out of existence. This struggle is a
symptom of the deep dissatisfaction with public education that is
growing in American parents. It’s also a good distraction that will keep
the education socialists chasing the wrong enemy

The Republican Liberty Caucus:

an interview with Robert Booth

by Alberto Mingardi

Libertarians and conservatives are shaped by two different perspectives
but have a lot of things in common.
As Michael W. Lynch recently noted in Reason, both groups emphasize the
ideals of the American Revolution: the heritage of liberty, free markets
and natural rights.

Both are also members of the revolutionary capitalist "class" which
supports individual liberty and is oppressed by the State. On this
point, consider for a moment the revolutionary nature of capitalism as
seen by a German radical in the early 19th century:
The [capitalist class] cannot exist without constantly revolutionizing
the instruments of production, and thereby the relations of production,
and with them the whole relations of society. . . Constant
revolutionizing of production, uninterrupted disturbance of all social
conditions, everlasting uncertainty and agitation distinguish [this]
epoch from all earlier ones. All fixed, fast-frozen relations, with
their taint of ancient and venerable prejudices and opinions are swept
away, all new-formed ones become antiquated before they can ossify. All
that is solid melts into the air, all that is holy is profaned, and man
is at last compelled to face with sober senses his real conditions of
life and his relations with his kind."

Is the capitalist "class" sufficiently well represented by the miniscule
Libertarian Party in the U.S.?

In the Laissez Faire City Times we’ve discussed natural allies of the
capitalist class: libertarians, republicans, the religious right yes,
the religious right no. . .

Now is a good time for an interview with Robert Booth. Mr. Booth is one
of the leaders of the "Republican Liberty Caucus" (RLC,
http://www.rlc.org), an interesting organization that promotes
libertarian ideas inside the Republican party, and defines itself as an
"Enemy of State".

RLC supports lower and fewer taxes, the right to privacy, the right to
keep and bear arms, educational choice, alternatives to the drug war,
privatization of government functions and similar ideas. Their
"champion" is Murray N. Rothbard. That says a lot in itself.

Professor Walter Block recently told The Laissez Faire City Times that
despite Ron Paul, the GOP is "a wasteland for liberty." How do you
respond to a criticism like this ?

It would depend on what Professor Block means by the GOP and
"wasteland". If he means that there are not any libertarians besides Ron
Paul elected to the federal legislative bodies, he has a good point.
There are some libertarian-leaning Republicans elected to office, but
even they would balk at being called a libertarian. If he means that
there are not any libertarian Republicans elected to office at the state
level, I would like to point out some very good people. Greg Kaza was a
state representative for six years in Michigan and now he is running for
the state Senate. Brian Thomas is a state representative in Washington
State, and he is very libertarian. There are quite a few others as well.
If Prof. Block means that there is a wasteland among grassroots GOP
activists, I would object even more strenuously. We find people every
day who are committed libertarians and are active in the GOP. Finally,
if he means that there are no libertarians amongst the people who vote
Republican, I have to seriously disagree. According to some polls, 20-30
percent of the American populace is in general libertarian. This is on
the same level as the number of people who are described as being
conservative, liberal or moderate. Given that anywhere from 90-99
percent of the voting public votes for one of the two major parties,
that means that many are looking at these parties to produce libertarian
candidates. In business terms, there's a big demand for a product that
isn't out there. We're trying to help one party, the Republicans, meet
that demand.

For those not familiar with the US political system, we have a bit of a
different dynamic than you do in Europe. Nearly all elected offices are
in "single member districts", that is, there is no proportional
representation. This pretty much guarantees that there will be two major
parties at any given time. These two parties have to maintain a large
coalition of diverse interests. While many political groups seek to work
outside these coalitions, we want to try to make sure the leaders of the
coalitions have to listen to us.

What are the reasons for the alliance of conservatives and libertarians?

Conservatives are a diverse lot, and it's hard to say what they

Gun Control Could Destroy the Constitution

by Sunni Maravillosa

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free
state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be
infringed.

  U.S. Constitution

That sentence seems so straightforward, doesn’t it? Twenty-seven words.
Yet the debate as to what the Founders meant by the Second Amendment to
the Constitution continues to rage. As the latest escalation in the war
on guns—the lawsuits against gun manufacturers brought by cities across
the country—progresses, "rage" is an apt sentiment for those who value
and strive to uphold the Constitution. While many other political items
get attention from the talking heads and politicians, discontent over
the increasing energy with which the Second Amendment is being attacked
quietly grows. It is a powder keg waiting for a spark.

Many of the gun-grabbers' arguments for restrictions and bans center on
the word "militia". However, the meaning of the term is straightforward:
a military force, especially one comprised of citizens rather than
professional soldiers. Some, in a convoluted interpretation of the word,
claim that the term refers to state militias (e.g., the National Guard).
If the Founders intended to limit gun ownership in this way, no writings
exist to support that interpretation.

The second part of the amendment is also clear, and more difficult for
Newspeak experts to argue away. In those days, "the people" meant
literally that—the citizens of this nation. Indeed, many patriots of
that day are on record as supporting the right of the individual to own
firearms. Samuel Adams’ well-known quotation is a good example: "The
Constitution shall never be construed to prevent the people of the
United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms."

Others, recognizing the thin ice underlying linguistic arguments such as
these, take a different tactic. It’s common to hear arguments that the
Founders had no idea that weaponry would advance as it has, leading to
automatic weapons that can fire hundreds of rounds in seconds, missiles
that can strike a target across a continent with deadly accuracy, and
even nuclear weapons with their global capacity for death and
destruction. While that may be true—something I’m loathe to grant, as
Jefferson and others were clearly men of great minds, seeing beyond
their time and circumstances—it is irrelevant. No one seriously advances
arguments such as, "the Founders didn’t foresee the high speeds capable
by automobiles, so we must control access to them," or "refrigeration is
a powerful tool that the Founders couldn’t have predicted would be so
important, therefore its use must be highly regulated, with mandatory
licenses, training, and permission to refrigerate granted by the state."

Others who would trample the Constitution try to appeal to our
"self-interest" with their arguments. They point to the violence in our
society, and attribute much of it to the presence of firearms. Many also
like to emphasize the power of guns, saying that they are "designed to
kill." My response to the latter is a simple, "No shit!" Again, these
arguments fail to consider all the data, or miss the point entirely.
Some who make these arguments don’t know—or conveniently overlook—the
history of settling the West. There were some violent gunfights, which
were popular as movie fodder in years past, but largely Western towns
were peaceful places because most citizens were armed, and bad guys knew
it. As many satires on gun control point out, people aren’t calling for
"vehicle control," despite the fact that automobile accidents kill far
more individuals than firearm accidents.

Still, many people think that it's "reasonable" to favor some kinds of
gun control. Some buy into the "sporting use" arguments offered by
gun-grabbers: "Why does a law-abiding citizen need a weapon powerful
enough to shred Bambi into a casserole right there in the forest?" Other
arguments generally go something like this: "Handguns, shotguns, and
some rifles are okay for people to own, but no one needs a
fully-automatic rifle or a machine gun. What would anyone need that kind
of weapon for?" However, owning firearms was never about hunting—it’s
about "the security of a free state." How secure—and free—can we be when
all we’re "allowed" to possess are .22-caliber rifles and 11-round
magazines, against the .50-caliber automatic rifles and worse of
government forces?

"To Disarm the People is the Best and Most Effective Way to Enslave
Them"

In recent years, and with increasing fervor in the wake of the attempted
assassination of President Reagan, gun-grabbers have been calling
for—and getting—increases in so-called gun

John Maynard Keynes

by Milton Friedman

John Maynard Keynes (1883–1946) is the latest in a line of great British
economists who had a profound influence on the discipline of economics.
By common consent, the line starts with Adam Smith (1723–1790), whose
Wealth of Nations (1776) is generally regarded as the founding document
of modern economics. It continues with David Ricardo (1772–1823), whose
Principles of Political Economy (1817) dominated classical economics for
much of the nineteenth century, and, incidentally, provided Karl Marx
with one of his central concepts: the labor theory of value. John Stuart
Mill’s (1806–1873) Principles of Political Economy, published in the
same year, 1848, as the Communist Manifesto by Marx and Engels, became
the standard textbook in the English-speaking world—and beyond—for
decades. William Stanley Jevons’s (1835–1882) Theory of Political
Economy (1871) inaugurated the "marginal revolution," which replaced, or
supplemented, emphasis on cost of production (supply) as determining
value with emphasis on utility (demand). He resolved the classic
diamond-water paradox—diamonds are a luxury, water a necessity, yet
diamonds command a higher price than water—by showing that "marginal
utility"—the utility gained from having one more unit of something—not
"total utility" plays the key role in determining price. Alfred Marshall
(1842–1924), Keynes’s own teacher, guide, and patron, dominated
economics in the English-speaking world from the publication of the
first edition of his classic, Principles of Economics (1890), to the
1930s.

Keynes clearly belongs in this line. In listing "the" classic of each of
these great economists, historians will cite the General Theory as
Keynes’s path-breaking contribution. Yet, in my opinion, Keynes would
belong in this line even if the General Theory had never been published.
Indeed, I am one of a small minority of professional economists who
regard his Tract on Monetary Reform (1923), not the General Theory, as
his best book in economics. Even after sixty-five years, it is not only
well worth reading but continues to have a major influence on economic
policy.

1. KEYNES’S LIFE

From 1908 to his death in 1946, Keynes was an active Fellow of King’s
College, Cambridge, influencing successive generations of students. For
many years, he was also Bursar of King’s College, and is credited with
making it one of the wealthiest of the Cambridge colleges. From 1911 to
1944, he was the editor or joint-editor of the Economic Journal, at the
time the leading professional economic periodical in the
English-speaking world. Simultaneously, he was also Secretary of the
Royal Economic Society.

Despite his lifelong commitment to economics, the earliest work he
completed—though not the earliest to be published—was in mathematics not
economics—A Treatise on Probability—essentially completed by 1911, but
first published in 1921. It is a mark of Keynes’s range, creative
originality, and insight that much recent work in statistics has
returned to the themes of the Treatise on Probability. In economics, his
first major publication was Indian Currency and Finance (1913), a
product of his service in the India Office of the British government
from 1906 to 1908.

Monetary Reform (1923) was followed in 1930 by the two-volume Treatise
on Money, much of which remains of value, though Keynes himself came to
regard its theoretical analysis as simply a step on the road to the
General Theory, the last of his major works. These major works were
supplemented by numerous articles, reviews, and biographical essays on
some of his predecessors.[1]

Keynes’s interest and influence were by no means limited to the confines
of the academy. For decades he exerted a major influence on public
affairs and played an active role in the world of business. His Economic
Consequences of the Peace (1919), based on his activities as an adviser
to the British Treasury during the negotiation of the Versailles Peace
Treaty, had a major impact on public opinion and public policy, not only
in Britain but throughout the world, and not only immediately. It was
translated into many languages, became a worldwide best-seller, and
first established Keynes as a major public figure. It influenced the
reaction of both victors and vanquished to the Versailles Peace Treaty.
Indeed, in a book, The Carthaginian Peace; or, the Economic Consequences
of Mr. Keynes, published more than two decades later (1946), Etienne
Mantoux pays the Economic Consequences a backhanded compliment by
arguing that Keynes’s debunking of the peacemakers was the source of all
subsequent evil, including World War II.

From 1919 on, Keynes remained active in public matters, publishing

Memorandum Number Four:
Who Is In This Secret Society?

The membership list of about 2500 initiates into The Order has very
 obvious features:

* Most members are from the Eastern seaboard United States. As
late as 1950 only three members resided in Los Angeles,
California, but 28 members resided in New Haven, Connec-
 ticut.
   * Members are all males and almost all WASPS (White Anglo
Saxon Protestant). In great part they descended from English
Puritan families, their ancestors arrived in North America in the
 1630-1660 period.
* These Puritan families either intermarried with financial power
or invited in sons of money moguls. e.g., Rockefellers,
Davisons. and Harrimans, whose sons became members of The
 Order.

From this preliminary information we can derive Hypothesis One

THERE EXISTS IN THE UNITED STATES TODAY, AND HAS EX-
ISTED SINCE 1833, A SECRET SOCIETY COMPRISING MEMBERS
OF OLD LINE AMERICAN FAMILIES AND REPRESENTATIVES OF
FINANCIAL POWER.

The chart on page 19 presents a simplified layout of this hypothesis
Full information remains for a later book _ for now we'll give details of
just two key families, the Whitneys and the Harrimans.

The Whitney Family

A key family is the Whitneys, descended from English Puritans who
came to the U.S. about 1635 and settled in Watertown. Mass. Eight
Whitney's have been members of The Order. Of these, three had brief
lives; Emerson Cogswell Whitney died a few months after initiation and
Edward Payson Whitney "disappeared in 1858" according to his
biographer. However, three Whitneys. William Collins Whitney and his
two sons, are the core of Whitney influence in The Order which survives,
today through the Harriman family and intermarriage with Paynes and
Vanderbilts.

William Collins Whitney (1841-1904) is a fine example of how
members of The Order rise to fame and fortune. W.C. Whitney was in-
itiated in 1863 and by 1872 had only advanced his career to Inspector
of Schools for New York. However, in the last three decades of the cen-
tury, he rolled up a massive fortune, became a power behind the throne
in the Cleveland Administration, and directed the often unscrupulous
activities of a cluster of capitalists known as "the Whitney Group". A
brief quotation suggests the power that Whitney amassed in a brief 30
years. This is a list of Whitney estates at the turn of the century:

One might call this a good thing: the public is preparing for potential Y2K
difficulties, thus indicating that mass hysteria, rioting, looting, etc. could be
squelched before it begins (assuming the Y2K problem will really turn out
to be more than a scary bedtime story written by a Big Brother who wants us
to run and jump in bed with him, that is, be even more dependent on him than
we already are). However, if one concludes, as many already have, that
military interests (Big Brother's drones at the most visible-and clueless- level)
are poised to take great advantage of the potential Y2K situation (whether
inherently dangerous for modern society or intentionally blown out of proportion
by THEM), then one must also look at the industrial implications and motives
for the military/industrial complex as a whole.

Even with Clinton's pay raises, the military half of the M/I complex has been
whining that it's not enough and that service people are still leaving the
military in droves. The question to ask is: Would a Y2K breakdown of societal
supports alleviate these problems for them or lead to a process which would
later alleviate them? They would need something akin to a draft resulting
from some military threat or cataclysmic societal event.

Even though the U.S. economy has been rolling along with little or no
adjustment made to radically low interest rates, the industrial half of the M/I
complex has been sagging for years, just like its partner. Clinton has recently
proposed more spending in this area too, but he couldn't legitimately
sustain such spending without an enemy looming to strike the American
people, especially now that the USSR has been splintered into many selfish,
vodka drinking, virtually impotent, poor countries with no more mother to
feed them (the U.S. powers would like to assume this role, but they are
already financially stretched in trying to keep the rest of their "holdings"
pacified, docile, pliant to their will, and consuming lots of fatty, carcinogenic
products; however, this period of suffering may have been calculated to make
them more agreeable when the U.S. steps in as their "savior" at a later point,
providing they don't let the situation go too long and the Russian peoples revert
to Communism). The question to ask here is: What situation would give the
Industrial half of the complex the boost it needs to begin soaking up
lucrative government contracts again?

I believe the answer to these questions has already been calculated.
Considering Clinton's actions (quite strange for a Democratic president
with delusions of being the next JFK--which, by the way, he would like to be,
except for the ending of the story) in financing military build-ups and
concurrent increases in weapons spending, one could imagine a scenario
like this:

(1) knowing the pres' weaknesses and character, covert operations
plant key people near the president to begin the operation: Monica, Tripp,
etc. [ I apologize to Colleen for this, but it was necessary to complete the
scenario  ;-)  ];

(2) the scandal breaks and the pres discovers just how deeply
and pervasively throughout his political environment it runs;

(3) the offer comes: "We'll get you out smoothly and tell

MONDAY MARCH 08 1999
Are Americans headed for world government?
By Dennis L. Cuddy, Ph.D.
 © 1999 WorldNetDaily.com

A few days ago, eight black helicopters belonging to the elite Delta Force
hit buildings in Kingsville, Texas with real explosives and live ammunition
in a training exercise that scared local civilians. Similar events have
occurred in Miami, Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Washington, New Orleans, Los
Angeles and other U.S. cities, including a Chicago suburb where they bombed
an abandoned seminary. So what's the fuss about a military training
exercise? Well, Tomas Sanchez in Texas is concerned, and he's no dummy.
Sanchez is emergency management coordinator for the Federal Emergency
Management Agency and head of the military police unit of the Texas State
Guard under the National Guard. He's also had 30 years service in Navy
intelligence work with a top secret clearance, and he's one of the few
people who've seen Presidential Decision Directive 25. Here's what he said
about the Delta Force special operation: "The scenario if I were creating
this ops plan [is that] martial law has been declared through presidential
powers and war powers act, and some citizens have refused to give up their
weapons. They have taken over two of the buildings in Kingsville. The
police cannot handle it. So you call these guys in. They show up and they
zap everybody, take all the weapons, and let the local Police Department
clean it up." Sanchez and other military experts believe PDD 25 is the
document being used to authorize such military action with the U.S., and he
said, "It's a done deal. I think there's some UN folks involved in this
thing too." Before you dismiss this as all part of some conspiracy
nonsense, you should know that on February 20, 1997, Ronnie Edelman of the
U.S. Department of Justice wrote a letter explaining the Clinton
administration's views on the Second Amendment and handguns as follows:
"The current state of federal law does not recognize that the Second
Amendment protects the right of private citizens to possess firearms of any
type." Relevant to the UN, when Boutros Boutros-Ghali was
secretary-general, he supported the report of the Commission on Global
Governance, which said: "We strongly endorse community initiatives to ...
encourage the disarming of civilians." We also know that President Clinton
has been deferential to the U.N., saying on Oct. 19, 1993, that his
administration was engaging in a political process regarding Somalia "to
see how we can ... do all the things the United Nations ordered to do." And
U.S. Army Specialist Michael New was court-martialed several years later
for refusing to wear U.N. insignia on his American military uniform. Are
Americans headed for world government? Over a century ago, Cecil Rhodes
developed a plan that would bring about a world government. On July 20,
1992, Bill Clinton's Rhodes scholar roommate, Strobe Talbott, wrote an
article for Time, in which he declared: "Perhaps national sovereignty
wasn't such a great idea after all," and "the case for world government" is
"clinched." President Clinton made Talbott number two at the State
Department, and in June 1993, the World Federalist Association gave Talbott
its Global Governance Award for his article. On June 22 of that year,
President Clinton sent a letter to the WFA noting that Norman Cousins, a
past WFA president, had worked for world peace and "world government," and
President Clinton concluded his letter by wishing the WFA "future success."
All of this in no way means that the president and the U.N. are going to
send military forces to your home to break down your door and confiscate
your firearms. But the actions and quotations above are troubling and do
not auger well for the future of our freedoms, rights, and national
sovereignty. Dennis L. Cuddy, Ph.D., is the author of "Secret Records
Revealed," pertaining to President Clinton and others (Hearthstone
Publishing, 800-652-1144).

[CTRL] The Reform Silly Party of Florida (Seriously!!!)

1999-03-08 Thread Robert Tatman

 -Caveat Lector-

Well, this one makes about as much sense as some of the nonsense coming out of
the "mainstream" parties...

;^)

The Reform Silly Party of Florida

"Putting the 'Fun' Back Into Political Dysfunction!"

Yep, we're a real political party, with a longer history in our great state
than some other, more famous latecomers. You can even Become a
Member!

PLATFORM

Term Limits With Dignity

This bold policy proposal combines the concepts of "term limits" and "death
with dignity." After serving in a public office for two terms, a public
official must be euthanized. We believe that this policy will do much to
reduce the long-term attractiveness of public office -- and thus the
possibility of corruption, waste, and mismanagement.

Domestic Pet Overpopulation the Hungry

Two crises in search of one another. Figure it out. And do send recipes.

Healthcare Reform

What better way to increase the availability of healthcare providers and the
level of healthcare in America than to declare a War on Healthcare? In
no time, American inner cities will be filled with unlicensed "healthcare
dealers" dispensing care, medical advice, etc. Soon others will exploit
the artificially-created black market. Health addicts will find a way to
purchase the care they desire. The primary drawback to this particular War
will be an explosion in popular entertainment about shadowy offshore "health
lords" operating clinics on tiny islands, as heroic IEA (Illness
Enforcement Administration) agents attempt to infiltrate the evil "health
cartels" [which will be secretly staffed by various US "intelligence"
agencies, of course].

Fiscal and Monetary Policy

All millionaires shall receive knighthoods; decamillionaires, baronhoods;
centimillionaires, dukehoods; and billionaires, lordships. The Senate
shall be replaced by a House of Lords. By the way, why is it an "embargo" when
the US government does it to other countries, and "protectionism"
when they do it to our own country?

The Law of Gravity

Repeal it. Governments have routinely ignored the laws of economics for years.
Let us boldly proceed to repeal the laws of physics. [Coming
soon: Our referendum on the speed of light!]

Weather Equity

The southern part of the USA is too hot most of the time, and the northern
part is too cold. The government should subsidize the equalization of
temperature and rainfall across the USA, just like on the planet Raisa.

Prohibition of Teenage Smoking

Absolutely not! If we prohibit teenagers from smoking, what will they do after
they have sex?

Tobacco, Savior of the Family Farm

All crops other than tobacco are forbidden. All farmers shall heretofore be
subsidized to grow tobacco only. Think of the possibilities: Tobacco
leaf salad. Tobacco Moon Pie. Wash it all down with a refreshing glass of
Tobac-Co-Cola. Things will go better with this proposal.

A National Language

The USA needs a national language. "English vs. Spanish" is too controversial.
It should be Old Norse. All civil service jobs shall require demonstrated
fluency in the national language. Once the bureaucracies have filled back up,
we'll pick another language; preferably one with a non-Roman alphabet.

Voting Rights Reform

The right to vote shall be taken away from those whose IQs are in the lowest
25% and the highest 25% of the population. Idiots and
smarty-pantses are the source of all our troubles.

Legal Reform

Defense lawyers who get clients acquitted shall serve the same sentences as
their clients who get convicted of subsequent crimes. Corrupt police
officers and judges shall be hanged on live TV. People who expose corrupt law
officers and judges shall receive free gasoline for one year and a
set of steak knives.

The Avant-Garde Presidential Debates Act

All presidential candidates qualified to appear on a minimum of 40 states'
ballots must engage in a series of four debates in October before a
general election. The candidates must present their policy positions only by
use of interpretive dance, yodeling, mime, and sign language. This
dynamic fusion, combined with our plan for creating the Federal Commission for
the Electoral Arts, would significantly increase voter interest in
the civic enterprise.

Courtesy

Courtesy shall be mandated. Discourteous individuals will be executed. Don't
like it? Then stop acting like such a jerk!

Personal Initiative Matrimony Program

People are waiting far too long to get married. As a responsible political
party, we too are just worried sick about the STATE OF THE FAMILY.
Not that we would ever pander to the family values crowd, but WE LOVE
FAMILIES. REALLY, REALLY, WE DO. Therefore, the government
must actively promote family formation. We call for establishment of the
Personal Initiative Matrimony Program-- the P.I.M.P. plan. The
government will take a pro-active role in finding suitable partners for those
singles who

Windows 98 has secret: A code to track users

A unique serial number can be planted within electronic files. That
raises privacy concerns.

By Ted Bridis
ASSOCIATED PRESS
WASHINGTON -- Microsoft Corp., whose software runs most of the world's
personal computers, admitted yesterday that its latest version of
Windows generates a unique serial number secretly planted within
electronic documents that could be used to trace the authors'
identities.

In a disclosure with enormous privacy implications, Microsoft also said
it was investigating whether it was collecting the serial numbers from
customers even if they explicitly indicated they did not want them
disclosed.

"If it is, it's just a bug," said Robert Bennett, Microsoft's group
product manager for Windows. "If it is indeed happening . . . we'll
absolutely fix that."

A programmer, Richard M. Smith of Brookline, Mass., noticed last week
that documents he created using Microsoft's popular Word and Excel
programs in tandem with the Windows 98 operating system included within
their hidden software code a 32-digit number unique to his computer.

The number also appears in a log of information transmitted to Microsoft
when customers register their copies of Windows 98, even if they say
they do not want details about their computers sent to the company.
Microsoft's Word and Excel programs are among the most widely used, and
its Windows operating systems run roughly 85 percent of the world's
personal computers.

"Nobody to my knowledge has had a database that would allow a piece of
written material to be traced back to who wrote it," said Smith,
president of Phar Lap Software Inc. "I don't expect Microsoft to do that
kind of tracing, but it's sort of unprecedented."

Bennett said Microsoft would create a software tool to let customers
remove the number, which he said was meant to help diagnose problems for
customers who called with technical questions.

Smith suggested, however, that Microsoft also could use the technology
to identify stolen copies of Windows by comparing the hardware serial
number with a 20-digit Windows product number that also is transmitted
when a customer registers. The industry claims annual losses from
software piracy at more than $11.4 billion.

"If they suddenly see the same product ID number with different hardware
ID numbers, it gives them evidence for court that there's software
piracy," Smith said.

Bennett said Microsoft was looking into whether the number, called a
Globally Unique Identifier, ever was obtained from customers who did not
want details about their computer hardware disclosed, such as their
network addresses.

The identifier is partly based on a 12-digit number unique to each
network adapter, a device common in business computers that allows
high-speed Internet connections.

Bennett promised that Microsoft also would wipe any of those numbers
from its internal databases that the company can determine may have been
inadvertently collected.

Privacy activists were not mollified.

"This is going to be a cleanup job larger than the Exxon Valdez oil
spill," said Jason Catlett, president of Junkbusters Corp. of Green
Brook, N.J., which lobbies on privacy issues. "There are billions of
tattooed documents out there."

The controversy follows criticism of Intel Corp., the world's largest
manufacturer of computer processors, which designed its new Pentium III
chips to transmit a unique serial number internally and to Web sites
that request it to help verify the identity of consumers.

Congress is weighing whether to propose new federal privacy laws
governing the high-tech industry, and the Federal Trade Commission has
had tough words for the Internet industry for its failure to protect
privacy rights. Last year, the FTC successfully pressed for a law that
prohibits Web sites from collecting personal information from children
without parental permission. Microsoft was a founding member of the
Online Privacy Alliance, a Washington-based trade group organized last
year to lobby against new federal privacy laws.

Associated Press

ERIE, Pa. - A 15-year-old boy charged with spraying bullets at a school
dance and killing a teacher counts Hitler as one of his heroes, yet he
is afraid of the dark and keeps Raggedy Ann dolls in his room, a
psychiatrist said.

Andrew Wurst left a suicide note on his pillow when he went to the April
24 dance armed with his father's pistol, said Dr. Robert Sadoff of
Philadelphia, a defense psychiatrist, in a report submitted to Erie
County Judge Michael Palmisano.

But a psychiatrist for the prosecution said Wurst was embarrassed when
the teacher he is accused of shooting, 48-year-old John Gillette, gave
him a door prize at the dance. Dr. John O'Brien of Philadelphia also
said Wurst was angry that his ex-girlfriend attended with another boy
and that classmates discouraged another girl from being his date.

A hearing will begin tomorrow to determine whether Wurst will be tried
as an adult or a juvenile.

Wurst is accused of killing Gillette, wounding two students and
threatening to kill his principal at the dance at James W. Parker Middle
School in Edinboro, about 18 miles south of Erie.

Sadoff's report said that Wurst should be tried as a juvenile because he
needs treatment for mental illness in a juvenile detention center. He
would automatically be released at age 21.

O'Brien and doctors at Warren State Hospital concluded Wurst wasn't
mentally ill. O'Brien said Wurst is hypersensitive to rejection, but his
refusal to discuss the shooting shows he wouldn't respond to treatment,
and he should be tried as an adult.

Wurst would play with toys, like Legos and miniature soldiers. His
mother would have to check for monsters under his bed before turning his
bedroom light off at night. And though he worked for his father's
landscaping business, the 125-pound boy couldn't do as much as other
workers.

At the same time, he drank whiskey and smoked marijuana. He picked up
the nickname "Satan" because of his liking for Marilyn Manson music and
horror novels.

EPA probes purple pigs, stunted crops

A malady plagues some farms in the region. ``We don't know why,'' an official
said.

By Matt Stearns
INQUIRER SUBURBAN STAFF

Deformed calves. Discolored crops. Purple pigs dying by the hundreds, then
decomposing quickly.

It isn't some Old Testament pestilence. It's a here-and-now mystery that has
driven one farmer in western Montgomery County out of business and has others
in the area scared for their own businesses -- and for their health.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency officials will visit at least four farms
today as part of a continuing effort to figure out what is going on, said
Carrie Deitzel, an EPA community-involvement coordinator.

Thus far, the long series of reported problems, first noted in the early
1990s, has confounded environmental and agricultural officials. The EPA did
its most recent round of soil and water testing on the farms in January, and
more tests will be run in the next few weeks.

"The data we've got back so far do not indicate any kind of environmental or
human health emergency out there," Deitzel said. "We're looking at what needs
to be done from here on out."

Deitzel acknowledged that the lack of environmental danger did not mean the
lack of an environmental problem. And the problem does not appear to be
restricted to these parts.

"This isn't an isolated thing," said Lynn Campbell Wingert, an EPA
spokeswoman. "Throughout the mid-Atlantic region, farm animals are dying, and
we don't know why. We're going to make any connection we can to figure out
what is going on here."

One farmer, Wayne Hallowell of Douglass Township, said there was no real way
to know how many farms were involved locally because it was unlikely every
farmer would be willing to cooperate with investigators.

"A lot of farmers with something wrong won't tell anyone," Hallowell said.
"They don't want the government coming in and shutting them down, or they're
trying to sell their land. They're very tight-lipped on that."

But problems there are -- enough that Tom Yarnall, a farmer for 30 years,
finally gave up raising pigs on his Gilbertsville spread. Yarnall still grows
some corn, but spends most of his time these days as a carpenter.

"I had almost 1,000 pigs when this thing started," Yarnall said. "In the
spring of '92, it all went downhill. We had whole litters die when they were
born."

More than 200 pigs died during a two-month period in 1993, Yarnall said.

All displayed similar symptoms: turning a purplish color, with newborns just
not growing to maturity.

His crops also turned purple, and have been stunted for several years, Yarnall
said. "The yields are way down," he said. "They just don't do well."

The pigs' bodies decomposed in about half the normal time, Yarnall said.
Generally, dead pigs decompose in two to seven days, depending on the
surrounding climate and other variables, said Arlen Wilbers, a large-animal
veterinarian at the Quakertown Veterinary Clinic who examined livestock at
Yarnall's farm.

"Whatever was in their system broke down their fat," Yarnall said. "They'd
turn into slop."

Kenneth Kephart, an associate professor of animal science at Pennsylvania
State University, investigated the goings-on at Yarnall's farm.

"We went at it from a lot of different directions, and unfortunately we came
up with zero," Kephart said. "Whatever it was seemed to be pretty persistent.
It's extremely rare that you can't find at least some evidence of what's going
on."
Kephart added that livestock management might have accounted for some of the
problems.

But Yarnall is not the only local farmer facing unexplained and unusual
disease among his livestock.

Merrill Mest said he had had a decade's worth at his farm, just a few miles
from Yarnall's.

"I've had health problems with cows," Mest said. "They just waste away. They
don't grow right. Couldn't live, couldn't die. Kind of in-between."

Other cows on Mest's farm have had displaced stomachs and cystic ovaries, he
said.

"My vet says I have a lot more problems than I should," Mest said. "But nobody
knows why."

Wilbers, who is also Mest's veterinarian, said that some of the problems again
might be chalked up to livestock management.

"Some of the stuff kind of rings true" as being caused by external problems,
Wilbers said. "But there's nothing I could specifically say. Nothing seems to
crop up" as a definitive cause.

Down the road at Hallowell's dairy farm, three deformed calves were born in a
year and a half in the mid-1990s -- after nearly 50 years without any deformed
calves being born on the land.

One newborn calf weighed three times the typical birth weight. Another was
born with both a testicle and a vagina. A third was born without a neck,
without a tail and with reversed leg joints.

During the same period, Hallowell said, several calves on his farm would not
grow.

"They more or less just

EPA officials visit stricken Montco farms

They pledged further investigation into an unknown blight on crops and
livestock that dates to 1991.

By Matt Stearns
INQUIRER SUBURBAN STAFF

Federal environmental officials shed their citified suits yesterday in a trip
to western Montgomery County to look further into farmers' fears about a
series of bizarre crop and livestock problems on area farms during the last
decade.
But they could not overcome the deep doubt and mistrust of officialdom among
farmers -- a cultural rift that gave an emotional edge to the day's
conversations.
The Environmental Protection Agency officials, clad for the country in
fashionable barn jackets and khakis, listened respectfully to concerned
farmers, who favored flannel shirts and patched work pants. They traipsed
gingerly through barns and barnyards, eyeing gaunt Holsteins at one farm while
taking notes on the farmers' litany of complaints.

The officials promised more and better tests would start within weeks in a
continuing search for answers. The questions began in 1991, when farmers first
reported their pigs were turning purple, dying and rapidly decomposing; crops
were turning purple and failing to mature; and cows were falling ill for no
obvious reason.

So far, years of tests by a variety of state, federal and academic experts
have been inconclusive.

There is also a human element to the problems. Many local farmers complain of
nausea and feeling faint while working in area fields.
The farms are near the Limerick nuclear-power plant, a Cabot Corp. chemical
plant, and several landfills. Some farmers questioned why those places hadn't
been more closely looked at.
"Either somebody's covering it up, or you're not testing for what's there," a
frustrated Tom Yarnall told the EPA officials gathered around the dining-room
table at his Gilbertsville home. "And if you don't test for the right things,
you're not going to find anything."
Yarnall, a longtime pig farmer, lost most of his herd to unexplained disease
in the mid-1990s and finally gave up large-scale farming altogether.
Jack Kelly, the EPA's on-scene coordinator from its Philadelphia office,
promised the renewed investigation would take a hard look at the Cabot plant's
environmental practices and would include tests for uranium and other
potentially dangerous heavy metals. Cabot works with such radioactive
materials, as well as a variety of chemicals, at its local plant.
"We use some chemicals in some pretty heavy volumes," said Tony Campitelli ,
the plant's manager of environmental affairs. "If you were to have a massive
spill, it could cause problems, but we handle [ the chemicals ] responsibly."

Campitelli also said that the plant's storage methods are proper and that
radiation levels on the site are low.
"Our main reason for being here is to try to identify some type of hazardous
material or contaminant, if there is such a thing," Kelly said. "The difficult
part of this is, if there is something going on, to date we don't have any
indication that it's a chemical problem. But we will look into the other
industries around here."

Kelly's learning curve will be steep. He conceded that farming wasn't his
strong point. "I'm from the city," he told farmer Merrill Mest apologetically
as Mest tried to explain his cows' digestive problems.
It became clear as the day progressed that farmers thought willful ignorance
and outright evasiveness had characterized the official response to their
years of concern.
"You hear from vets what doctors used to tell women who had PMS," Mest said.
"It doesn't exist. It's all in your head. That's what they're telling me --
there's no PMS."
Yarnall, too, said he wanted answers even though he was no longer farming.
"There's something wrong in this area," he said. "And I think it's time the
farmers get answers from someone. Why should we go broke and lose everything?"
At day's end, his mind reeling from farmers' complaints, Kelly admitted he
remained dumbfounded. "There's no sign of a widespread health problem," Kelly
said. "It looks like it's farm-specific. I figure the Department of
Agriculture folks will have a lot to say about this. This is more their
bailiwick. Our ability to do chemical analysis will help."
Kelly's reaction only underscored Yarnall's exasperation.

"If you're going to send people out to look at farms," Yarnall said
disgustedly, "you should send people who know about farming."

Re: [CTRL] Gun Control Could Destroy the Constitution

1999-03-08 Thread Colleen Jones

 -Caveat Lector-

I do not like guns; I have a pit bull, and if need be I will get an army
of pit bulls for purely defensive purposes.

This is my thought - not that anyone really cares...

Look into the history of police departments. People wanted law and
order, so they formed a civil service agency called the police - after
all, government's primary purpose is to provide services, for which we
pay - and dearly I might add. Now the South over a 100 years ago tried
to get out of this condominium and failed.

A lot of people were afraid and did not want to carry guns; they wanted
someone whom they could trust to protect them and defend them; so
eventually, came the first police department and the people let the
police represent them just as they elect representatives to Congress -
who are supposed to represent their best interests

Now, if the right of the people is denied, and they cannot carry arms,
the right of the civil service police will also be denied, as our police
who are civilans eventually will be denied this right, as they are truly
the representatives of the people when it comes to providing for the
common defense on a domesic local front.

The military is to provide for the common defense against foreign attack
or invasion. I have friends who have seem some of these old "bunkers",
etc. And we are told, well do not worry if there is a nuclear war or
bubonic plague is thrust upon us, our leaders will be safe.

The hell with our leaders; its every man for himself. These bunkers
should be turned into shelters for the homeless or the children - has
our government provided for the common defense of its people, or have
they ducked the issue and feathered their own nests at our expense.

Is that what it is all about.

[CTRL] The Dash

1999-03-08 Thread Edward Britton

 -Caveat Lector-

"The Dash"

I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of his friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
from the beginning...to the end.

He noted that first came her birth
and spoke of the second with tears,
but he said that what mattered most of all
was the "dash" between those years.

For that dash represented all the time
that she spent alive on earth,
and now only those who loved her
know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own;
the cars, the house, the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our "dash."

So think about this long and hard,
are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left...
(You could be at "dash mid-range.")

If we could just slow down
and consider what's true and real,
and always try to understand
the way other people feel.

And...be less quick to anger,
and show appreciation more -
and love the people in our lives
like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect,
and more often wear a smile,
remembering that this special dash
might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy is being read
with your life's actions to rehash...
would you be pleased with the things they say
about how you spent your dash?

[CTRL] Edward Win 98

1999-03-08 Thread J. Hoffa

 -Caveat Lector-

All of a sudden, the Apple platform is starting to look real good. Anybody
know where I can download a good operating system in the mean time?

I realize that, from the beginning of this latest phase of the electronic
age, privacy has been an illusion, but, damnit, I want my illusions back!

Edward

Linux is free to download at many sites on the net (just use a search engine
and the word "Linux"), and there are free Linux browsers, word processors,
etc. also free for the downloading (depending on who's version of Linux you
get). However, such a changeover would be radical, and none of your
current files could be converted for use with it. Besides, didn't I read that
Microsoft is going to provide some sort of software patch that will disable
the serial number tracking?

HOFFA

P.S.If Microsoft doesn't provide such a patch, it won't be long before
people figure out how to safely disable the tracking themselves, so hang
in there a while longer!

-JoAnne

Plain text? Do you mean a .txt file or an ACSII file? Converting to ACSII would
work in other formats (with any fancy things such as underlining, etc. looking
like gobbledy-gook symbols), but I didn't know a .txt file would work.

Linux is a very different environment from Windows, and, as you say, it would
depend on what you are doing with your computer. I have both operating

Deluxe to run Win 95 and Linux and can switch back and forth between them.
I would recommend this course of action for Edward. It would make his
transition easier and not as full of surprises.

The .txt extension is just a convention for straight ASCII files, so we're
talking about the same thing. You can conceivably give a .txt extension to any

but what I'm talking about is "save as ASCII without formatting"
or whatever the word processor wants to call it.

Such as .doc for WordPad files, .wpd for Word Perfect files,
etc.? Is that what you're referring to? Let me explain.

I realize that the extension does not make the file what it is and that
extensions can be changed without altering the file (although Windows
recognizes files by their extensions and will attempt to use the appropriate
program to open them; in fact, Windows will warn you if you try to change
an extension to another simply by clicking on the name and trying to type
in the new extension, i.e., changing a .bmp--bit map image--to a .dll--a
dynamic link library file). However, different file types can be set up to
open a particular type of document as specified by the user (by using
the "Open With" dialog box), actions for existing file types can be changed,
and completely new actions for existing file types can be created (the "New
Action" dialog box). In fact, one can add an extra extension to an existing file
extension, thus creating what is called a MULTIPLE extension. However,
this cannot be done in a Windows dialog box. It requires editing the registry
(HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT).

As for the types of text files that a Windows-based word processor can
create, they are legion. There are text only files (using the ANSI character
set), text only files (using the ASCII character set), MS-DOS text files, RTF
(rich text format files--these include fancy stuff such as underlining), OEM
text, and on and on. So you see, when you said "a text file," I needed a little
clarification, and I never assume that when someone is discussing computers
that they actually know more than they reveal through what they initially say.
I wanted to know what you meant by "plain text," and I thought that you might
mean a file with a the .txt extension, not realizing what ASCII even was or even
what a file extension deliniates, for that matter. If you had come back with,
"What is ASCII?" or "Isn't .txt short for 'plain text?'" then I would know at what
level to next approach your comment. Does that help you see why I said
what I said and why I phrased it that way? I didn't really expect you to come
back with what you said above. So, in one way, I guess I did make an
assumption!

I do not mean to suggest that I thought you didn't know what you were talking
about. It's just that I didn't want to make any hasty assumptions that you knew
much more than you first said. Sometimes it's better to err on the side of
caution and then take it from there. :-)

[CTRL] JoAnne: Rosetta_stone.dll

1999-03-08 Thread Edward Britton

 -Caveat Lector-

JoAnne:

As far as I am aware, word processing programs utilize .dll's (dinamic
linking libraries) to tell the program what type format the file is in. As
it happens, so do other programs which are brought up in the boot process.
They look first (anybody correct me if I'm wrong about this process) for
something to tell them what to open a program with and that usually
requires a .dll. What I do remember from having loaded this OS is that it
was almost all .dll's with a few .exe's mixed in.

So, the problem between Linux and Windows is that they do not "speak the
same language." Neither do most or all of the programs which run within
Windows. What I'm looking for is a Rosetta Stone in the form of a monster
.dll :-)
