MYTH OF EVOLUTION - EVEN MORE SCIENTISTS SPEAK OUT! - 2

There are scientists all over the world who know that evolutionary theory is
bankrupt. Such men as *Charles Darwin, *Thomas and *Julian Huxley, and
*Steven Jay Gould have admitted it.

But you will not find these statements in the popular press. Such admissions
are only made to fellow professionals.

An asterisk ( * ) by a name indicates that person is not known to be a
creationist.

"Paleontologists [fossil experts] have paid an exorbitant price for Darwin's
argument. We fancy ourselves as the only true students of life's history,
yet to preserve our favored account of evolution by natural selection we
view our data as so bad that we almost never see the very process we profess
to study."-*Steven Jay Gould, The Panda's Thumb (1982), pp. 181-182 [Harvard
professor and the leading evolutionary spokesman of the latter half of the
twentieth century].

"The problem of the origin of species has not advanced in the last 150
years. One hundred and fifty years have already passed during which it has
been said that the evolution of the species is a fact but, without giving
real proofs of it and without even a principle of explaining it. During the
last one hundred and fifty years of research that has been carried out along
this line [in order to prove the theory], there has been no discovery of
anything. It is simply a repetition in different ways of what Darwin said in
1859. This lack of results is unforgivable in a day when molecular biology
has really opened the veil covering the mystery of reproduction and heredity
. .

"Finally, there is only one attitude which is possible as I have just shown:
It consists in affirming that intelligence comes before life. Many people
will say this is not science, it is philosophy. The only thing I am
interested in is fact, and this conclusion comes out of an analysis and
observation of the facts."-*G. Salet, Hasard et Certitude: Le Transformisme
devant la Biologie Actuelle (1973), p. 331.

"The theories of evolution, with which our studious youth have been
deceived, constitute actually a dogma that all the world continues to teach;
but each, in his specialty, the zoologist or the botanist, ascertains that
none of the explanations furnished is adequate . . It results from this
summary, that the theory of evolution is impossible."-*P. Lemoine,
"Introduction: De L' Evolution?" Encyclopedie Francaise, Vol. 5 (1937), p.
6.

"Darwinism is a creed not only with scientists committed to document the
all-purpose role of natural selection. It is a creed with masses of people
who have at best a vague notion of the mechanism of evolution as proposed by
Darwin, let alone as further complicated by his successors. Clearly, the
appeal cannot be that of a scientific truth but of a philosophical belief
which is not difficult to identify. Darwinism is a belief in the
meaninglessness of existence."-*R. Kirk, "The Rediscovery of Creation," in
National Review, (May 27, 1983), p. 641.

"I have always been slightly suspicious of the theory of evolution because
of its ability to account for any property of living beings (the long neck
of the giraffe, for example). I have therefore tried to see whether
biological discoveries over the last thirty years or so fit in with Darwin's
theory. I do not think that they do. To my mind, the theory does not stand
up at all."-*H. Lipson, "A Physicist Looks at Evolution," Physic Bulletin,
31 (1980), p. 138.

"Evolution is baseless and quite incredible."-*John Ambrose Fleming,
President, British Association for Advancement of Science, in The Unleashing
of Evolutionary Thought.

"Unfortunately, in the field of evolution most explanations are not good. As
a matter of fact, they hardly qualify as explanations at all; they are
suggestions, hunches, pipe dreams, hardly worthy of being called
hypotheses."-*Norman Macbeth, Darwin Retried (1971), p. 147.

"It is not the duty of science to defend the theory of evolution, and stick
by it to the bitter end-no matter which illogical and unsupported
conclusions it offers. On the contrary, it is expected that scientists
recognize the patently obvious impossibility of Darwin's pronouncements and
predictions . . Let's cut the umbilical cord that tied us down to Darwin for
such a long time. It is choking us and holding us back."-I.L. Cohen, Darwin
Was Wrong: A Study in Probabilities (1985).

"This general tendency to eliminate, by means of unverifiable speculations,
the limits of the categories Nature presents to us, is the inheritance of
biology from The Origin of Species. To establish the continuity required by
theory, historical arguments are invoked, even though historical evidence is
lacking. Thus are engendered those fragile towers of hypothesis based on
hypothesis, where fact and fiction intermingle in an inextricable
confusion."-*W.R. Thompson, "Introduction," to Everyman's Library issue of
*Charles Darwin's, Origin of Species (1956 edition).

MYTH OF EVOLUTION SCIENTISTS SPEAK OUT! - 1

Top-flight scientists have something to tell you about evolution. Such
statements will never be found in the popular magazines, alongside gorgeous
paintings of ape-man and Big Bangs and solemn pronouncements about millions
of years for this rock and that fish. Instead they are generally reserved
only for professional books and journals.

Most scientists are working in very narrow fields; they do not see the
overall picture, and assume, even though their field does not prove
evolution, that perhaps other areas of science probably vindicate it. They
are well-meaning men. The biologists and geneticists know their facts, and
research does not prove evolution, but assume that geology does. The
geologists know their field does not prove evolution, but hope that the
biologists and geneticists have proven it. Those who do know the facts, fear
to disclose them to the general public, lest they be fired. But they do
write articles in their own professional journals and books, condemning
evolutionary theory.

Included below are a number of admissions by leading evolutionists of
earlier decades, such as *Charles Darwin, *Austin Clark, or *Fred Hoyle. The
truth is that evolutionists cannot make scientific facts fit the theory.

An asterisk ( * ) by a name indicates that person is not known to be a
creationist.

"The Darwinian theory of descent has not a single fact to confirm it in the
realm of nature. It is not the result of scientific research, but purely the
product of imagination."-*Dr. Fleischman [Erlangen zoologist].

"It is almost invariably assumed that animals with bodies composed of a
single cell represent the primitive animals from which all others derived.
They are commonly supposed to have preceded all other animal types in their
appearance. There is not the slightest basis for this assumption."-*Austin
Clark, The New Evolution (1930), pp. 235-236.

"The hypothesis that life has developed from inorganic matter is, at
present, still an article of faith."-*J.W.N. Sullivan, The Limitations of
Science (1933), p. 95.

"Where are we when presented with the mystery of life? We find ourselves
facing a granite wall which we have not even chipped . . We know virtually
nothing of growth, nothing of life."-*W. Kaempffert, "The Greatest Mystery
of All: The Secret of Life," New York Times.

" `The theory of evolution is totally inadequate to explain the origin and
manifestation of the inorganic world.' "-Sir John Ambrose Fleming, F.R.S.,
quoted in H. Enoch, Evolution or Creation (1966), p. 91 [discoverer of the
thermionic valve].
"I think, however, that we must go further than this and admit that the only
acceptable explanation is creation. I know that this is anathema to
physicists, as indeed it is to me, but we must not reject a theory that we
do not like if the experimental evidence supports it."-*H. Lipson, "A
Physicist Looks at Evolution," Physics Bulletin, 31 (1980), p. 138.

"I am not satisfied that Darwin proved his point or that his influence in
scientific and public thinking has been beneficial . . the success of
Darwinism was accomplished by a decline in scientific integrity."-*W.R.
Thompson, Introduction to *Charles Darwin's, Origin of the Species [Canadian
scientist].

"One of the determining forces of scientism was a fantastic accidental
imagination which could explain every irregularity in the solar system
without explanation, leap the gaps in the atomic series without evidence [a
gap required by the Big Bang theory], postulate the discovery of fossils
which have never been discovered, and prophesy the success of breeding
experiments which have never succeeded. Of this kind of science it might
truly be said that it was `knowledge falsely so called.' "-*David C.C.
Watson, The Great Brain Robbery (1976).

"The hold of the evolutionary paradigm [theoretical system] is so powerful
that an idea which is more like a principle of medieval astrology than a
serious twentieth century scientific theory has become a reality for
evolutionary biologists."-*Michael Denton, Evolution: A Theory in Crisis
(1985), p. 306 [Australian molecular biologist].

"The particular truth is simply that we have no reliable evidence as to the
evolutionary sequence . . One can find qualified professional arguments for
any group being the descendant of almost any other."-J. Bonner, "Book
Review," American Scientist, 49:1961, p. 240.

"It was because Darwinian theory broke man's link with God and set him
adrift in a cosmos without purpose or end that its impact was so
fundamental. No other intellectual revolution in modern times . . so
profoundly affected the way men viewed themselves and their place in the
universe."-*Michael Denton, Evolution: A Theory in Crisis (1985), p. 67
[Australian molecular biologist].

"I had motives for not wanting the world to have meaning, consequently
assumed it had none, and was able without any difficulty to find satisfying
reasons for this assumption . . The

The May 16, 2000 issue of GLOBE [Globe Editorial, Inc., Boca Raton, Fl

segment:

"ENIMIES CHARGE: HILLARY IN KINKY 3-WAY SEX VIDEO - WITH SUICIDE PAL AND
ANOTHER GAL!

A shocking video that appears to show first lady Hillary Clinton in a
steamy, three-way sex romp with her former law partner Vince Foster and
another woman is set to be released by her political enemies, say sources.
The explicit tape is a potential bombshell that could derail Hillary's
political campaign, say insiders, just as opinion polls show her popularity
is once again soaring.
"It's dynamite," admits one source who has seen the video, "It seems to
confirm the stories of an affair with Vincent Foster that have circulated
for years.
"And it adds fuel to the rumors that Hillary is bisexual because in some
scenes there's another woman, and all three are intimately involved."

Although he tried to make it sound bad...taking down and removing anything
related to the Christian God.., but I like the idea. It's about time for
something like that anyway. And while they're at it they should remove the
Faschi from The House of Representatives in Washington D.C. (a Faschi is a
bundle of sticks tied at intervals, with an axe handle affixed at the top.)
This is the Symbol for World Fascism. Which is Proudly displayed on both

Judge Attacks America’s Christian History

By Chuck Baldwin

May 19, 2000

On May 5, Federal District Judge Jennifer Coffman ordered historical
documents hanging on the walls of public buildings in Eastern Kentucky to
be immediately taken down. The ruling directly targets courthouses and
public schools in Harlan, McCreary and Pulaski counties. In defending her
decision, Coffman said the displays have the effect of "conveying a very
specific government endorsement of religion."

Judge Coffman’s ruling demonstrates either a profound ignorance of
America’s history or a profound contempt for America’s history. In either
case, the judge declared war on America’s deep Christian heritage.

The offending documents ordered removed included the Declaration of
Independence, the preamble to the Constitution of Kentucky, and the
national motto, "In God we trust." A page from the congressional record of
Wednesday, Feb. 2, 1983, Vol. 129, No. 8, which declares 1983 as the "Year
of the Bible" and lists the Ten Commandments, was likewise ordered removed.
In addition, a proclamation by President Ronald Reagan marking 1983 the
"Year of the Bible," a proclamation by President Abraham Lincoln
designating April 30, 1863, a "National Day of Prayer and Humiliation," the
Mayflower Compact, and more were ordered removed. Any document having any
reference to God was ordered taken down.

Using Judge Coffman’s reasoning, never again would people be allowed to say
the Pledge of Allegiance in a public gathering because the words "under
God" are in it. No public meeting could ever be opened in prayer.

The Supreme Court building would need to be remodeled. Directly above the
head of the Chief Justice is an engraving of the Ten Commandments, which is
protected by a great American eagle. On the east front is a marble
sculpture of Moses. That would have to be torn down. No longer could the
Court open with the invocation: "God save the United States and the
Honorable Court."

In Judge Coffman’s Amerika, the "prayer and meditation" room located just
off the rotunda in the Capitol would have to be sealed. The room features a
stained glass window showing George Washington kneeling in prayer. Behind
him are the words from Psalm 16:1, "Preserve me, O God; for in thee do I
put my trust." An open Bible is on the altar. Congress would have to fire
their respective chaplains and no longer be allowed to open their sessions
in prayer.

Great sculptures inside the rotunda would have to be torn down. There you
will find the figure of the crucified Christ, as well as a picture of the
Pilgrims about to board the ships Mayflower and Speedwell. The ship’s
chaplain, Brewster, is shown with an open Bible on his lap.

Likewise, the walls of the Capitol dome would have to be remodeled because
these words clearly appear: "The New Testament according to our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ." On the sail is the motto of the Pilgrims, "In God We
Trust, God With Us."

The Great Seal of the United States would have to be changed. Inscribed in
the Seal is the phrase, Annuit Coeptis, which means, "God has smiled on our
undertaking." Under the Seal is engraved the phrase, "This nation under
God," from Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.

It is impossible to separate this nation from its Christian past. The
reminders of our heritage are carved in our buildings and monuments and
preserved in our historical documents. Only foolish people like Jennifer
Coffman would even attempt such a disdainful act.

That the roots of Christianity run deep in our soil is plain for all to
see. What is not so clear is how deep they run in our soul.

[CTRL] CHEMTRAILS - Did An Airline Mechanic Stumble Upon The Truth?

CHEMTRAILS - Did An Airline Mechanic Stumble
Upon The Truth?
5-17-00

http://www.sightings.com/general/stumble.htm

(Note - We cannot confirm the following statement but the implications
are enormous, and we expect there will be serious efforts to investigate
and evaluate these allegations quickly. -ed.)

For reasons you will understand as you read this I can not divulge my
identity. I am an aircraft mechanic for a major airline. I work at one
of our maintenance bases located at a large airport. I have discovered
some information that I think you will find important.

First I should tell you something about the "pecking order" among
mechanics. It is important to my story and to the cause to which you
have dedicated yourself.

Mechanics want to work on three things. The avionics, the engines, or
the flight controls. The mechanics that work on these systems are
considered at the top of the "pecking order". Next come the mechanics
that work on the hydraulics and air conditioning systems. Then come the
ones who work on the galley and other non-essential systems. But at the
very bottom of the list are the mechanics that work on the waste
disposal systems. No mechanic wants to work on the pumps, tanks, and
pipes that are used to store the waste from the lavatories.

But at every airport where I have worked there are always 2 or 3
mechanics that volunteer to work on the lavatory systems. The other
mechanics are happy to let them do it. Because of this you will have
only 2 or 3 mechanics that work on these systems at any one airport. No
one pays much attention to these guys and no mechanic socializes with
another mechanic who only works on the waste systems. In fact I had
never thought much about this situation until last month.

Like most airlines we have reciprocal agreements with the other airlines
that fly into this airport. If they have a problem with a plane one of
our mechanics will take care of it. Likewise if one of our planes has a
problem at an airport where the other airline has a maintenance base,
they will fix our plane.

One day last month I was called out from our base to work on a plane for
another airline. When I got the call the dispatcher did not know what
the problem was. When I got to the plane I found out that the problem
was in waste disposal system. There was nothing for me to do but to
crawl in and fix the problem. When I got into the bay I realized that
something was not right. There were more tanks, pumps, and pipes then
should have been there. At first I assumed that the system had been
changed. It had been 10 years since I had worked on one. As I tried to
find the problem I quickly realized the extra piping and tanks were not
connected to the waste disposal system. I had just discovered this when
another mechanic from my company showed up. It was one of the mechanics
who usually works on these systems. I happily turned the job over to
him. As I was leaving I asked him about the extra equipment. He told me
to "worry about my end of the plane and let him worry about his!"

The next day I was on the company computer to look up a wiring
schematic. While I was there I decided to look up the extra equipment I
had found. To my amazement the manuals did not show any of the extra
equipment I had seen with my own eyes the day before. I even tied in to
the manufacturer files and still found nothing. Now I was really
determined to find out what that equipment did.

The next week we had three of our planes in our main hanger for periodic
inspection. There are mechanics crawling all over a plane during these
inspections. I had just finished my shift and I decided to have a look
at the waste system on one of our planes. With all the mechanics around
I figured that no one would notice an extra one on the plane. Sure
enough, the plane I choose had the extra equipment!

I began to trace the system of pipes, pumps, and tanks. I found what
appeared to be the control unit for the system. It was a standard
looking avionics control box but it had no markings of any kind. I could
trace the control wires from the box to the pumps and valves but there
were no control circuits coming into the unit. The only wires coming
into the unit was a power connection to the aircraft's main power bus.

The system had 1 large and 2 smaller tanks. It was hard to tell in the
cramped compartment but it looked like the large tank could hold 50
gallons. The tanks were connected to a fill and drain valve that passed
through the fuselage just behind the drain valve for the waste system.
When I had a chance to look for this connection under the plane I found
it cunningly hidden behind a panel under the panel used to access the
waste drain.

I began to trace the piping from the pumps. These pipes lead to a
network of small pipes that ended in the trailing edges of the wings and
horizontal stabilizers. If you look closely

ISRAEL SPY SCANDAL FAILS TO IGNITE...SO FAR

THE FOREIGN PRESS NEEDS TO TAKE THIS ONE ON

"This should be front-page news... This is one
of the most important intelligence stories to
come along in years and nobody is paying any
attention to it!"
 High-ranking U.S.government official

MID-EAST REALITIES - www.MiddleEast.Org - Washington - 5/16:
The U.S. media, like so many in the Congress and in official Washington, usually
does what it can to overlook or play down what the Israelis do that could have
serious negative reverbations for the Jewish state.
Be it arms sales to China or even bugging of the Oval Office and Pentagon,
Washington is usually taken in by, or scared off by, or infiltrated by the Israelis.
No other country has this kind of "watch out for me" relationship with the world's
superpower.
In the major media as well as the government here, there are key personalities
at the most senior levels who are especially close to if not connected with the
Israelis, and they bend over backwards not to call the Israelis to task for what
they do and to help them through any problems that arise.
Be it the atrocious bombing of the refugees at the U.N. base in Lebanon a few
years ago, the unprecedented slaughter of thousands at the Sabra and Chattila refugee
camps before that, the apartheid-like restrictions imposed on the Palestinians,
or Israel's massive nuclear weapons program...don't count on the Ted Koppels, Larry
Kings, and Wolf Blitzers of the American media to invite guests to speak up about
honestly and forcefully about these matters. And don't count on the New York Times,
Washington Post, or L.A. Times to do their job and accurately and objectively cover
such major scandals when the perpetrator is Israel.
And that's why what should be on the front pages and talk shows, Israel's long
ongoing plot (what else are we to call it?) to infiltrate, bug and blackmail officials
of the U.S. government and military, has not taken root. True, sparks have been
flying about this story for many days now, but so far it has yet to ignite.
Bottom line? The Israeli-oriented and Israeli-infiltrated establishment American
media is not going to do the job on this one. In this particular case it's up to
the foreign press to do so.
The one magazine that has investigated and reported this story in detail so
far is Insight Magazine, a weekly spun off by Washington's second and most conservative
newspaper, The Washington Times. This commentary about the whole situation appears
in the latest issue of the magazine from the managing editor.

ISRAELI SPY SCANDAL Investigative Update

"FBI Parsing on Probe of Suspected Spying by Israel
Sounds Like Definition of What the Word ‘Is’ Is"

Now that the FBI has confirmed the outline of an Insight exclusive -- that its famed
Division 5 counterintelligence group was probing suspected eavesdropping by Israeli
agents on top-level U.S. government telecommunications traffic -- why hasn’t the
rest of the press followed?

Especially since the FBI also has confirmed that this is still an open investigation
– even though, according to an Associated Press story, insufficient details had
been confirmed to support the allegation. So what has the FBI been probing for nearly
3 years?

"This should be front-page news," exclaimed a high-level U.S. government source
familiar with the details of Insight’s exclusive report. "This is one of the most
important intelligence stories to come along in years and nobody is paying any
attention
to it!" Indeed. Particularly when one considers that, since the story came out
about the previously unknown FBI probe, intelligence and federal law-enforcement
officials at the highest levels of government still won’t talk about the matter
on the record.

Variations of "I can’t talk to you about" or "It’s too sensitive" or "It’s still
an open investigation" ring hollow if, as the FBI has told other news outlets, it
couldn’t confirm the allegation (actually allegations) but still is suspicious.
And consider why that is so:

Applause For Recent Activism On Gun Votes

House Sends 'Pink Slip' To Smith Wesson
-- Senate support for gun control continues slipping

Gun Owners of America E-Mail/FAX Alert

Phone: 703-321-8585 / FAX: 703-321-8408

This alert posted on the web at:
http://www.gunowners.org/a051900.htm

(Friday, May 19, 2000) -- The shootout is over; the dust is now
settling. But the "bullet holes" are probably still visible in
Capitol Hill chambers. This week was quite contentious in
Washington, as opposing sides on the gun debate clashed sharply.

There is a lot of good news to report, and for starters, Gun Owners
of America would like to thank all the activists who contacted their
Congressmen this week. Your activism is tremendously helpful.

House Votes To Bar Favoritism Toward Smith Wesson

The Washington Post today reported, "The House voted [Thursday] to
bar the Defense Department from giving Smith Wesson preferential
treatment in government contracts, part of a new effort to block the
Clinton administration from rewarding gun manufacturers that adopt
new [so-called] safety measures."

The House victory was huge, and anti-gun Democrats are fuming. But
gun owners should be thankful to Rep. John Hostettler (R-IN) who has
become a sort of "guided missile," seeking to destroy every vestige
of gun control that Bill Clinton has foisted recently upon the
nation.

Last week, he forced a committee vote on his amendment to bar
favoritism towards any company (like SW) that enters a gun control
pact with the Clinton administration. The DoD authorization bill
passed yesterday on the floor of the House, with the Hostettler
amendment intact.

Support For Anti-gun Crime Bill Continues To Slip In The Senate Due
To Grassroots Activism

The Senate narrowly voted for gun control on Wednesday, but the
anti-gun Democrats should be worried. Their majority is slipping
terribly.

The Senate barely passed a non-binding resolution both praising the
Gun Control Moms for their march on Sunday and asking the
House-Senate conferees to report the juvenile crime bill out of the
conference committee before the Memorial Day weekend. The "sense of
the Senate" resolution passed on a 50-49 vote.

Gun owners should note that the juvenile crime bill originally
passed with 73 votes last May. It seems that the constant beatings
which GOA activists have applied on Senators -- especially those up
for reelection -- are taking their toll.

All Democrats voted in favor of the anti-gun resolution, except for
Sen. Dodd of CT who missed the vote entirely. Republicans who voted
anti-gun were Senators Chafee (RI), DeWine (OH), Fitzgerald (IL),
Jeffords (VT), Lugar (IN) and Warner (VA).

On Wednesday, the Senate also passed another non-binding resolution
offered by Senator Trent Lott (R-MS) which called for more
aggressive enforcement of existing anti-gun laws, tougher penalties
for gun-related crimes and protection for the rights of law-abiding
gun owners.

Both Senate votes can be viewed at http://www.gunowners.org/cgv.htm
on GOA's website.

Taking inspiration from our favorite poet and all-around good guy, Lyn

Taxpayers’ Friends Foes

to pull pro-taxpayer scores out of a three-year nosedive, according to the
widely-anticipated annual Rating of Congress released today by the

Have You Seen This Democrat?

The fine folks at the Republican National Committee are keeping track of how

Nothing to Offer But Fear Itself

“Hypocrisy is afoot, but that is not the worst of it. In his attack on George
W. Bush's Social Security proposal, Al Gore is employing the worst kinds of

repeatedly and led us to a point where crisis lurks not too many hops down
the road.”

Your Money, Your Choice

“Abandoning his usual caution, George W. Bush shifted Social Security to
center-stage. He recently embraced Social Security choice: allowing younger
Americans the option to devote part of their payroll taxes to privately-owned
accounts. ... Democrats predictably will warn of Bush's ‘risky scheme’ to
herd Granny and her friends into Merrill Lynch offices across America with
neither food nor blankets. But Bush's proposal, for starters, is 100 percent
voluntary. Republicans simply must repeat the mantra: ‘Your money, your
choice. Your money, your choice.’ Second, Wall Street no longer is the
exclusive playground of the Rockefellers and Vanderbilts. An estimated 48.8
percent of U.S. families own equities, either directly or through mutual
funds. TV news channels constantly intersperse sports scores with updates on
the Dow Jones and NASDAQ indices. Such information interests both CEOs and
average viewers. That's why in the age of IRAs and 401-Ks, the left's
class-warfare rhetoric is as cutting-edge as Arlo Guthrie.”

- Columnist Deroy Murdock, 5/18/00

Why Do Most Blacks Vote Democrat Again?

“Members of the African-American leadership network Project 21 are pleased
with the bipartisan progress now underway toward privatizing Social Security
and making it fair for black Americans. Black Americans are the most at risk
under the current Social Security regime. A recent survey found only 28% of
black households have enough saved for even the most minimal retirement
comfort. Furthermore, since black men have a lower average life expectancy
than the rest of the population, they are less likely to get back what they
have paid into Social Security. Because benefits are not transferable, their
families will receive nothing when a black male head of household dies.

“Social Security reform is now receiving strong bipartisan support, and may
become a major issue in this fall's presidential election. Presumed
Republican presidential candidate Governor George W. Bush of Texas announced
a proposal this week to let workers invest a portion of their payroll taxes
rather than having the government make all the choices. The proposal would
keep current benefits intact for those now receiving

The strange bedfellows of China PNTR

By Tom Flocco
© 2000 WorldNetDaily.com

An examination of Federal Election Commission, Center For Responsive
Politics and Justice Department "agents of foreign principals" lobby
records regarding contributions to U.S. House and Senate members
reveals startling conflicts of interest concerning legislators charged with
oversight of matters related to China's recent ability to gather American
dual-use military research and development secrets almost at will.

U.S. defense corporations McDonnell-Douglas (Boeing), Lockheed
Martin, Loral Space (Lockheed) and Hughes Electronics (General
Motors) are either under indictment, awaiting indictment or under current
investigation by the Justice Department for illegally passing rocket and
satellite technology to China

But the illegalities may have little effect upon the outcome of the looming
vote to extend permanent most favored status to China -- now called
"normal" trade relations (PNTR). However, the congressional conflicts of
interest are anything but normal.

For each company also plays a significant role in the political dealings
and donor machinations of representatives who must now return favors
connected to the PNTR vote -- legislators who are also charged with
investigating espionage and campaign finance scandals related to China.

For example, Senator Fred Thompson, R-Tenn., chairman of the Senate
Government Affairs Committee charged with investigating the illegal
Chinese political campaign contributions, was criticized by some for his
soft probe while shutting down his hearings in late October 1997.With
eight-plus weeks to go before the Senate-imposed deadline at the end of
December, Thompson promised in a press conference to reopen the
hearings if more information surfaced in 1998. And thus Thompson
refused to force key witnesses to testify and continuously plead the Fifth
Amendment to build a likely prosecutorial scenario.

The suspension of Thompson's failed campaign finance hearings
occurred at a time when a variety of revelations were building momentum
that would result in the impeachment of President Clinton. But curiously,
on Oct. 30, 1998, at the apex of the House impeachment proceedings --
just five weeks before the actual vote and 10 weeks before the Senate
removal vote -- Gannett wire service noted that the Tennessee senator's
son, Fred D. "Tony" Thompson, Jr., was hired as a congressional
lobbyist for Lockheed Martin. Other Lockheed lobbyists were making six-
figure salaries at the time.

This writer's recent phone call to the Senate office regarding lobbyist
registrations confirmed the Gannett report and the current Lockheed
employment of the younger Thompson. But strangely, Democratic
presidential candidate Al Gore's former key staff member and Clinton-
Gore DNC fund-raiser, Peter Knight, is also listed with Sen. Thompson's
son as a current Lockheed lobbyist. And federal election documents list
Lockheed as the Tennessee Senator's top contributor with $27,000 in
1996 and $16,000 in 1998 -- both substantial sums for an individual
company in an election cycle.

More interestingly, Clinton-connected political appointments began falling
into the laps of family members of key Republican legislators. Added to
the Thompson revelation, former Philadelphia prosecutor and Republican
Senate Judiciary Committee member Arlen Specter let his wife Joan
accept a six-figure appointment directly from President Clinton just six
months before the impeachment vote. Mrs. Specter would conveniently
be serving with Democratic National Committee Chairman Steven
Grossman's wife on the National Endowment for the Arts Board.

Then influential House Republican anti-impeachment leader, Rep. Chris
Shays, was able to avoid public notice when his wife Betsy quietly
accepted a six-figure appointment as Director of Ameri-Corps from close
Clinton confidant and early damage-control aide Mark Gearan, now
director of the Peace Corps. The job came through on Oct. 8, 1998 --
just eight weeks before the actual House impeachment vote. And these
are the appointments that are known.

Re: [CTRL] Myth of Evolution Quotes Re-Post Request

2000-05-20 Thread nessie

Whoever posted the 20 somes quotes discrediting evolution please re-post
 them, or e-mail me directly.

These quotes hardly discredit evolution. Some of them bad mouth it, but
that is quite a different thing from discrediting it. To discredit
something, anything, requires empirical evidence, and not mere opinion.
If I bad mouth your religion, does that mean your religion is thereby
automatically discredited?

The Gould quotes which I do recognize are taken out of context. Probably a
lot of these quotes are taken out of context. There's no way to tell
without looking them up which is made difficult because are no ISBNs and
publishers cited. Dates are often omitted. Nor are the bona fides of most
authors authors stated. If I say, "Joe Schmo said in a book once that your
religion is a bunch of superstitious crap," does that in and of itself
automatically make your religion a bunch of superstitious crap? Do you
then immediately abandon your religion? Or do you at least first ask which
book, where may I find it, and who the hell is Joe Schmo that I should
believe him?

If a man is an expert in glaciation or discoverer of the thermionic valve,
how does that make him qualified to judge evolution?

Many of these quotes are a century or more old. This means that the
authors lack the insight which the overwhelming flood of empirical
evidence collected since could have given them.

It is disingenuous to quote Gould, not only out of context, but in
seeming agreement with Agassiz, a man whose opinion on the subject Gould
has spent more than a few lines refuting.

There is more wrong with the line of reasoning presented in this
collection of quotes, and in the quotes themselves. At the moment at
least, I don't feel like expending the effort to illustrate them. People
that believe this crap can't be reasoned with and the rest of us don't
need to be. Besides, I'm hungry. I'm going to go fix myself some breakfast.

There is no dichotomy between the Theory of Evolution and the belief in a
Creator God.

And if there is, so what. The real dichotomy here is between belief and
knowledge. Believe is what you do when you don't know. It's a stupid move.
What smart people do when they don't know, is to find out.

Incidentally, here is how to cite a quotation from a book:

"The complexity of reflexive suspicion can be glimpsed in the nuances of
of the term "disinformation." Disinformation is not misinformation; it is
information expertly laced with strategically chosen misinformation.
Genuine information is the bait to lure the prey to swallow the hook. But
the hook must be carefully hidden and the bait enticing . . . "

[CTRL] GNUTELLA: E-POWER TO THE PEOPLE

2000-05-20 Thread Nurev Ind Research

The Washington Post Thursday, May 18, 2000

E-POWER TO THE PEOPLE

By Ariana Eunjung Cha, Washington Post Staff Writer

Two months ago, Justin Frankel created an ingenious little software
tool that allows its users to bypass the dominant Internet companies and
communicate directly among themselves. His bosses at America Online
Inc., the biggest computing network of them all, were so impressed they
tried to snuff it out of existence.
Within 24 hours, AOL officials had removed the tool, called Gnutella,
from the Web site of its Nullsoft development house. It was, they
declared, an "unauthorized freelance project."
But they were too late. About 10,000 people had already
downloaded the program onto their own machines, creating bustling
networks for the free exchange of everything from digital music files and
pictures to political propaganda beyond the control of AOL, its merger
partner Time Warner Inc. or anyone else.
Both the beauty and danger of Gnutella are that it is a more
sophisticated version of Napster, the infamous and popular program that
college students have been using to swap music files over the Web.
Napster's developers have recently been hit with a flurry of copyright-
infringement lawsuits. But unlike users of Napster, Gnutella aficionados
can trade files without going through a storage center, making it
impossible to shut down the system without unplugging every computer
on the network and difficult to control by laws because there's no central
authority.
Marc Andreessen, a co-founder of Netscape Communications and a
former chief technology officer for AOL, compares Gnutella to a
benevolent virus, a "revolutionary" program that spreads the power of
publishing from an elite set of corporations to anyone who has a
computer.
"It changes the Internet in a way that it hasn't changed since the
browser," Andreessen said.
At a time when the general assumption is that the World Wide Web's
destiny will be guided by international conglomerates such as AOL,
Amazon.com Inc., Yahoo Inc. and Microsoft Corp., Gnutella is the
unexpected variable.
Its very existence is a statement about the wild nature of the Web
and how difficult it will be for anyone to tame it. It is also a dramatic
display of how easily the Internet can be transformed or at least shaken
by smart computer programmers who are barely old enough to drink or
drive.
Frankel, 21, and his good friend and software co-creator, Tom
Pepper, another twentysomething Nullsoft employee, have become
virtual cult heroes. Their work is being refined daily by hundreds of
young volunteer programmers around the world who hope to extend
Gnutella's reach, making it a free search engine for the masses.
The decentralization of power that Gnutella represents has revived
the romantic dream of many a cyberspace pioneer--that of a truly free
realm where no information gatekeeper exists and where all property is
commonly owned. But those who hope to profit handsomely from the
Internet's transformation into a global marketplace--record companies,
book publishers, movie makers and practically everyone else with a
stake in selling information--regard Gnutella as a device for thievery.
It was, after all, Gerald Levin, chief executive of Time Warner Inc.,
which owns the Warner Music label, who called on his AOL counterpart,
Steve Case, to quash the Gnutella project.
Carey Heckman, a professor of law and technology at Stanford
University, said the software could undermine the foundation of many
multibillion-dollar corporations.
"It's about how information flows and who controls that system,"
Heckman said. "The idea of a handful of institutions filtering information
may be decaying."

Origin of a New Species

The name Gnutella comes from a combination of Gnu, the popular
suite of free Unix software, and Nutella, the chocolatey hazelnut spread
that Frankel is said to favor. It is the most advanced of a new generation
of what are known as "distributed network" programs with names like
Freenet and iMesh.
Freenet, also a relative of Napster, is the brainchild of Ian
Clarke, a
23-year-old in London. The program, which is still in the early stages of
development, has drawn attention because it deliberately makes it all but
impossible to identify the source of a file. Thus it could act as a
megaphone for political dissidents fearful of retribution, as well as
potentially a gathering place for terrorists, pornographers and other
malevolent users. "People should be free to distribute information
without restrictions of any form," Clarke said in an e-mail.
Programs such as Freenet and Gnutella conform to the original
vision of the Internet's architects, who imagined it to be a completely
decentralized system. But then corporations came along and set up
central information storehouses called

A CHRONOLOGICAL HISTORY OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER
by D.L. Cuddy, Ph.D.
Arranged and Edited by John Loeffler

In the mainline media, those who adhere to the position that there is some
kind of "conspiracy" pushing us towards a world government are
virulently ridiculed. The standard attack maintains that the so-called "New
World Order" is the product of turn-of-the-century, right-wing, bigoted,
anti-semitic racists acting in the tradition of the long-debunked Protocols of
the Learned Elders of Zion, now promulgated by some Militias and other
right-wing hate groups.

The historical record does not support that position to any large degree but
it has become the mantra of the socialist left and their cronies,
the media.

The term "New World Order" has been used thousands of times in this century by
proponents in high places of federalized world government.
Some of those involved in this collaboration to achieve world order have been
Jewish. The preponderance are not, so it most definitely is not a
Jewish agenda.

For years, leaders in education, industry, the media, banking, etc.,
have promoted those with the same Weltanschauung (world view) as theirs. Of
course, someone might say that just because individuals promote their friends
doesn't constitute a conspiracy. That's true in the usual sense. However, it
does represent an "open conspiracy," as described by noted Fabian Socialist
H.G. Wells in The Open Conspiracy: Blue Prints for a World Revolution (1928).

In 1913, prior to the passage of the Federal Reserve Act President
Wilson's The New Freedom was published, in which he revealed:

"Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men's views confided to me
privately. Some of the biggest men in the U. S., in the field of commerce and
manufacturing, are afraid of somebody, are afraid of something. They know that
there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so
interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they had better not speak above
their breath when they speak in condemnation of it."

On November 21, 1933, President Franklin Roosevelt wrote a letter to Col.
Edward Mandell House, President Woodrow Wilson's close advisor:

"The real truth of the matter is, as you and I know, that a financial
element in the larger centers has owned the Government every since the
days of Andrew Jackson..."

That there is such a thing as a cabal of power brokers who control
government behind the scenes has been detailed several times in this century
by credible sources. Professor Carroll Quigley was Bill Clinton's mentor at
Georgetown University. President Clinton has publicly paid homage to the
influence Professor Quigley had on his life. In Quigley's magnum opus Tragedy
and Hope (1966), he states:

"There does exist and has existed for a generation, an international..
.network which operates, to some extent, in the way the radical right
believes the Communists act. In fact, this network, which we may identify as
the Round Table Groups, has no aversion to cooperating with the Communists, or
any other groups and frequently does so. I know of the operations of this
network because I have studied it for twenty years and was permitted for two
years, in the early 1960s, to examine its papers and secret records. I have no
aversion to it or to most of its aims and have, for much of my life, been
close to it and to many of its instruments. I have objected, both in the past
and recently, to a few of its policies...but in general my chief difference of
opinion is that it wishes to remain unknown, and I believe its role in history
is significant enough to be known."

Even talk show host Rush Limbaugh, an outspoken critic of anyone
claiming a push for global government, said on his February 7, 1995
program:

"You see, if you amount to anything in Washington these days, it is because
you have been plucked or handpicked from an Ivy League school -- Harvard,
Yale, Kennedy School of Government -- you've shown an aptitude to be a good
Ivy League type, and so you're plucked so-to-speak, and you are assigned
success. You are assigned a certain role in government somewhere, and

[CTRL] Giuliani, A string of bad luck??

2000-05-20 Thread [to:] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

NEW YORK –– Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, his political
ambitions derailed by prostate cancer and a
nasty split with his wife, abandoned his Senate
campaign
against Hillary Rodham Clinton on Friday.
___

A year ago, Giuliani was riding high in political popularity.
Even democrats had to admit he had been a effective mayor.
The early polls, taken when Hillary first announced for the NY
senate seat, showed Giuliani with a sizeable lead.
But since then, it is as though the guy has been under a curse.
It's been one bad thing after another.

4 of New York's finest gunned down an unarmed black man in
front of his home in New York.
Giuliani's lead shrank considerably in the aftermath.
Next, Mayor Giuliani was diagnosed with prostate cancer and his
entire political future was suddenly in question.

  But Giuliani wouldn't quit.
The final blow in the string of curses which befell him was
" the announcement of plans for a legal separation from his wife
   of 16 years, Donna Hanover.
Hanover retorted with her own bombshell, publicly accusing him
of having had an affair with a former staffer."

When Bill Clinton has this sort of thing and much worse revealed,
his popularity only increases. Jennifer Flowers comes forward and
talks about their long-running affair, and it has no effect.
   Paula Jones...no effect.
   Catherine Willey.no effect.
Juanita Broadrickno effect. (Broadrick told a nationwide TV audience
that
   Clinton had raped her.
Clinton has never even
   bothered to deny it.)

Does anyone remember Senator Gary Hart? His presidential campaign
was ruined by a single photograph of a young woman, Donna Rice, sitting
in his lap on the yacht "Monkey Business".
But nothing sticks to Clinton "the comeback kid".

Has anyone noticed the amazing "good luck" which has rescued
Bill and Hillary time and again at critical moments?
Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say has anyone noticed
the incredible string of bad luck with has befallen many people
who have opposed the Clintons or stood in their way?

Jim McDougal died in solitary confinement just hours before he was
scheduled to testify about "Whitewater". His testimony may well
have led to a criminal indictment against Hillary, but of course that
chance died with McDougal.

It seems that many people who have opposed Bill and Hillary
have suddenly had an evil turn of fortunes
just as if they had been cursed by some dark spiritual power.

Those who are familiar with the long list of people connected
with William Jefferson Clinton who have died under strange and
mysterious circumstances should perhaps add Mayor Giuliani's
   political death to the list.

   Regards to All

[CTRL] Media Confession Scared of guns

2000-05-20 Thread A.C. Szul Jr.

 Media Confession: "Scared of guns"

WASH., D.C., 20 May 2000 -- Reporting live on MSNBC's "Morning Blend," host
Soledad O'Brien confessed that she is indeed "scared of guns."

O'Brien made this statement right before her interview of Bill Powers, NRA
spokesperson, who was at the NRA's (see http://www.nraila.org/) hugely
popular convention in Charlotte, N.C. Nearly 40,000 folks are expected to
attend the event this weekend.

Perhaps O'Brien's fear of guns is indicatory of the media's bias against
guns (see http://www.mrc.org/specialreports/news/sr2105.html)? Or, maybe
it's just Ms. O'Brien who has never fired a shot in her life and doesn't
realize that a gun can be used in a safe and defensive manner?

Statements like those by O'Brien lead casual observers to question whether
she was the right person to interview the NRA's Powers? And, if she's scared
of guns, is she scared of the NRA and Bill Powers too? If so, what kind of
questions would one expect from such a reporter who's interviewing a NRA
staffer?

Those are not easy questions to answer based on a one-line statement, but it
does indicate the level of discourse being promoted by today's media. How
many other network or print reporters are "scared of guns?" Is it 20, 30 or
1,000? If it's more rather than less, what kind of media do U.S. readers and
viewers get when they open their morning newspaper or flip on the TV news?

Is it a media that knows nothing about guns other than what they're spoon
fed by anti-gun fringe groups or is it a media made up of ignorant men and
women who refuse to pick up a gun and engage in some fun target practice?
Sadly, it may be a combination of both.

Certainly, those who are familiar with guns know that these weapons are
nothing to be scared of if used in a safe and defensive manner. For years
the Eddie Eagle program, among others, have been promoted by the NRA folks
as a educational tool against the ignorance that pervades our media and
society. Yet, many discount these efforts as just another way to get guns
out into the masses unchecked.

It's time for those in the media who are "scared of guns" to visit a local
gun sporting club and buy a gun. Any gun. They can then inquire about taking
classes on how to shoot their newly purchased gun and then, perhaps, they'll
realize that guns aren't the enemy but those who choose to use such a weapon
in an unsafe and dangerous manner.

Virus Ambulance Chasers

Hidden network virus eats TV newscaster brains.

The hype surrounding the "NewLove" virus is spreading, well, like a virus --
and at the center of the hype are the companies themselves.

"Anti-virus companies have always been seen as ambulance chasers, and
sometimes, it's true," said Dan Schrader, the chief security analyst at Trend
Micro. "Because this is an industry that has been built on hype and alerts
and pretensions of being good citizens, the industry doesn't have a lot of
credibility."

That's what happened Friday, Schrader said, when numerous alerts were sent
out by anti-virus companies, and the virus only affected a small number of
computers and networks. But the media, and even Janet Reno, did their part to
fuel the fire as well.

"I have to admit this whole thing became a media feeding frenzy," said
Schrader, who estimated he had been interviewed a dozen times since 5 a.m.
(PDT) Friday morning.

"This whole industry runs on hysteria," said Rob Rosenberger, webmaster of
Computer Virus Myths. "It's just one more press release about a virus that's
probably going nowhere."

News of the virus spread rapidly as soon as it was discovered. Trend Micro
learned that one of its customers was infected with the newer, nasty virus
late Thursday, Schrader said. A reporter called him, having heard from
anti-virus company Symantec that one of its customers was also affected, and
Trend Micro then decided to call the Associated Press.

"This thing is all of a sudden snowballing," Schrader said.

Ironically, the "NewLove" virus, while nasty, has had nowhere near the effect
that its pesky cousin "Love Bug" did two weeks ago.

"We really haven't seen it out there that much," admitted McAfee director Sal
Viveros.
But Schrader said that despite the hype, there are legitimate reasons to
inform the media to get the word out quickly.

"We need to educate 300 million people overnight, and that is an absurd
responsibility," Schrader said. "The pressure to (tell the media) is huge
because you never know when one of these viruses will be the big one."

"The proactive notification of customers is a responsible thing to do," said
Tom Powledge, a group product manager for Symantec.

McAfee's Viveros added that any time there is a huge outbreak like the Love
Bug, companies are also on high alert.

"Historically, we see a whole slew of copycats and variants after a major
virus outbreak," Viveros said. "We're monitoring extra closely."

Over-hyping of computer viruses is not a new phenomenon. The most notorious
example of hype was during the Michelangelo virus in 1992. John McAfee,
founder of McAfee Associates, warned that Michelangelo would hit 20 million
computers, when in fact the virus infected 20,000 computers at best, Schrader
said.

And he believes there are better ways of preventing virus outbreaks, and the
media circus that surrounds them.

"If we had 200 of the largest ISPs scanning the traffic they're delivering
for viruses, we wouldn't have an outbreak of (the "Love Bug") magnitude,"
Schrader said.

He pointed out that US West already does this for its customers, and British
Telecom also has plans to scan for viruses.

Rosenberger of the Computer Virus Myths homepage said that the problem will
be corrected once users demand anti-virus software that can detect viruses
before they infect computers, instead of the after-the-fact detection that
companies use now.

"Users are the biggest avenue to change," Rosenberger said.

Nevertheless, part of the credit that the virus was so easily contained was
that people are becoming more aware of these invaders.

"The virus companies were ready and the users were ready," said Chris Vargas,
president of F-Secure. "People were ready for this, which is really good
news."

Feature
How to Hack a Bank
Electronically knocking over a financial institution isn't easy, but it's
probably not as hard as you think.[1] let's get to work
By David H. Freedman

STEP ONE: THE SETUP
First, we'll pull our core team together. We'll need at least half a dozen
software whizzes to do our hacking,[2] including specialists in banking
application software, wire transfer networks, IBM MVS, Unix, Sun Microsystems
Solaris, or Windows NT (depending on which is controlling the bank's
servers), Windows 95 and 98, and security software.[3] We'll also want at
least one inside person at the bank.[4] This could be a mid- to low-level
employee, a teller, assistant manager in data processing, or a wire transfer
clerk. We should have someone experienced in physical security, too, as well
as a talented "social engineer" capable of charm and fast talk.

Next, we'll pick our target, avoiding top-tier banks because they're too well
protected. We don't want small community or Internet-only banks, either,
because their limited money supply makes it likely that managers would
instantly notice millions of dollars flying out the electronic doors. So we
target a nice midsize bank.[5]

Finally, like any other business endeavor, we'll need time to get set up and
some seed money-for equipment, living expenses, advances, bribes, and so
on.[6] Two million dollars should do it.[7] Our goal will be to steal between
$10 million and $100 million.[8]

STEP TWO: THE GROUNDWORK
Our physical-security pro and his or her associates will get themselves hired
by the target bank as janitors, electricians, plumbers, or other
contractors.[9] Once inside, they'll plant bugs throughout the bank. They'll
also filch useful hard-copy information from desks, filing cabinets, and
closets. At the same time, our social engineer and hired cohorts will run a
number of small scams designed to yield insights into how the bank sets up,
accesses, modifies, and pays out its accounts. For instance, they'll pose as
retail and commercial customers, making friends with bank employees outside
of work, and impersonating bank employees over the phone in an effort to get
information from employees, customers, software vendors, computer
professionals, and other banks. Meanwhile, of course, our main insider will
be learning everything he or she can about the bank's network, software,
processes, and employees.

The actual hacking will be cautious and low-level for the first several
weeks[10]-better to peel an onion than boldly drill for oil. We won't go near
the money systems at this point. Instead, we'll focus on finding various ways
to get onto the network from the outside.[11] One approach will be
"war-dialing," which involves setting up a computer to automatically dial
every phone line in the bank[12] in search of an answering modem.[13] Another
approach is to set up an online account with the bank, then jump from the
online banking server to the bank's main network.[14] Yet another avenue is
provided by bank managers who take laptops home and hook up to their banks
via cable Internet services (particularly easy to penetrate).[15] If the bank
has overseas branches, we may decide to come in through one of them because
computer security tends to be more lax offshore.

Whatever route we take, we won't be able to get in without employee
passwords, preferably several-to avoid raising suspicion by running up one
person's computer time. But there are lots of ways of getting them. Our
inside people should be able to spot some scribbled down on desktops; our
social engineers will talk employees and the IT department out of others;
we'll run widely available freeware automated password-guessing programs such
as Crack; we'll steal them from employees' accounts at e-commerce sites like
Amazon.com, because people tend to use the same passwords in different
applications; and in many cases we'll be able to quickly guess them off the
tops of our heads because people often use passwords such as their last
names, "hello," or "password."

Once on the network, we'll search for ways to jump into different computers
and software programs. We may need new passwords at each step-no big deal. At
this point, we'll log on only for short periods and avoid touching sensitive
systems, to keep from attracting attention. We'll also have our social
engineers open several dozen accounts of various types at the bank under
false identities. They'll keep mostly modest but occasionally large sums of
money flowing into, out of, and among them.

STEP THREE: THE CODE WORK
Once we get a feeling for the network, we'll start to obtain "root access" on
some of the servers. That is, to get a server to give us all the rights and
privileges normally afforded only to the server's systems

The Drug Money Times
A HREF="http://www.MadCowProd.com"http://www.MadCowProd.com/A

Journalist Daniel Hopsicker does New York and the rest of the
country a favor. He also ties up some loose ends I have been
keeping in my hard drive for two years. See if you don't think
so too:

Representative Henry Waxman has vowed to block the House investigation
into fundraising abuses.

It is a proven fact that Bill Clinton's campaign accepted money from
at least two drug criminals, cocaine smuggler Jorge Cabreras (who posed
for photos with Hillary Clinton and Al Gore)) and Arkansas money launderer
Mark Cambiano.

Henry Waxman, in declaring his opposition to the fundraising
investigation, has publicly declared his approval of campaigns fueled
by drug money.

Waxman has also, by his opposition to this investigation, ratified
the deaths of four 1992 Clinton fundraisers who handled large amounts of
cash, C. Victor Raiser II, Ed Willey, Hershel Friday, and Ron Brown,
dead of three plane crashes and one highly suspicious suicide.

Waxman, by his opposition to the fundraising investigation, has clearly
shown that he places party above principle, personal welfare over the
good of the nation, and worst of all, that he is untroubled by the
doubling of drug use by our children since Bill Clinton took office.

Waxman has stated his opposition to Dan Burton by stating that when one
man has too much power, is will inevitably abuse it. Mr. Waxman seems to
ignore that this is precisily what troubles Americans about our President,
especially one that used drug money to win his office.

Mr. Waxman, in openly protecting those who supported the President with
drug money, has shown himswelf to be in league with them.

To one and all:

This is the latest move in the destruction of the 2nd Amendment by the Clinton Commu-Nazis.
Some of the names you will see below are real "heavy hitters" in the shooting world. Note: MSG Steve Reiter is the current and past
National Pistol champion. MSG Fox is Ruby Fox, womens' National Pistol champion for about a dozen or more years running, and one of the few 2600+ womman shooters in the world.
Despite the fact that there are more Olympic medals awarded for
shooting than any other discipline - 13 in total - it looks like the
USA will loose by default this year.
It should be further noted that these were the same people who saved the US Army's bacon when the Infantry school fell on it's face for lack of marksmanship training in Desert Storm!
Some people never learn.

Respectfully,

MSG David J. Lindstedt, Sr.

Subject: All-USAR Shooting Team

I got this email from Helmut today. It was a bit of a shock, although a lot of us had seen it coming; here it is in black and white. At the end of Perry, we have to turn in our equipment.
Many of you have connections in high places, whether it be the
military or politicians. We need to call in on all of our favors to
try and keep the program going. I need someone to write a letter and pass out to our teammates to sign and mail to our Representatives in Congress, Senate and anyone else who will listen, including USARC.
The letter should describe the benefits that the Army receives by
having us as a Team and also the long tradition that we have had. We have wordsmiths on the Team who are more eloquent than I am and know the history of the Team better. Please let me know ASAP if you would like to volunteer to do this. If not, I'll take the bull by the horns and try to write it myself. Other Service Teams may also have a personal interest because if our program is cancelled, theirs also may be adversely affected. Let's go down with a fight and try and save our program!!!

MAJ Russell

Gentlemen,

1. It is my sad duty to inform you that the USAR is the first military
organization to cancel competitive marksmanship activities. Hopefully the USAR will be the only one to do so.

2. Each of the teams (Pistol, Rifle, and Combat) will make
arrangements to turn-in their equipment at the completion of this
year's competitions. The equipment (which includes firearms) will be
returned to the property book holder, the Small Arms Training Team
(SATT). a. Pistol Team. All soldiers competing in the National Matches will turn their equipment in at Camp Perry, OH, after the pistol phase of the National Matches. Any team members who do not participate in the Nationals must make arrangements to turn their equipment into the SATT no later than 31 July 2000. b. Rifle Team. All soldiers competing in the National Matches will turn their equipment in at Camp Perry, OH, after the rifle phase of the National Matches. Any team members who do not participate in the Nationals must make arrangements to turn their equipment into the SATT no later than 31 August 2000. c. Combat Team. All soldiers will turn their equipment into the SATT no later than 31 August 2000.

3. Ammunition will be issued in quantities that will be expended no
later than the turn-in dates. The remaining ammunition will be
consolidated for transfer to the Army Marksmanship Unit or the
National Guard Marksmanship Training Unit for use in their competitive marksmanship programs. MAJ Steven Spencer, as the All-USAR Shooting Team Ammunition Officer, is responsible for the disposition of ammunition.

4. The Army Marksmanship Unit will not order any new ammunition.
Expendable items necessary for the successful completion of this
year's activities may still be procured.

5. Additional information will be provided in future correspondence.

 Original Message
Subject: [corp-focus] Amoral Defense

From: Robert Weissman [EMAIL PROTECTED]

To: undisclosed-recipients:;

Amoral Defense
By Russell Mokhiber and Robert Weissman
April 24, 2000

We've just come from a press conference held by the Center for the
Moral Defense of Capitalism.

The Center called the press conference to announce its opposition to
Earth Day.

At the press conference, the Center's executive director, Robert
Tracinski, asked the question that was on everybody's mind -- why in the
heck would anybody be against Earth Day?

"People think that environmentalism just means being for clean air and
clean water -- and who could possibly be against these things?"
Tracinski asked. "In fact, we believe that environmentalists don't
really care about clean air and clean water. Their real goal is to
destroy technology and to subordinate mankind to nature."

"Watch the crowds of environmentalists who will gather on the Mall
tomorrow, and notice that they have never met a form of technology they
liked," Tracinski said. "Every kind of new technology is attacked, from
nuclear power to genetically modified foods. But they also oppose every
old, existing technology, from fertilizers and pesticides to the
internal combustion engine. And they always place the blame for every
problem on one basic target -- the Industrial Revolution."

We pointed out to Tracinski that most environmentalists don't want to
get rid of all technology -- they just want to get rid of dirty
technologies and replace them with cleaner technologies -- electric cars
for gasoline powered cars, for example.

"If they are for a new technology, let them go out and invent it,"
Tracinski said. "But they say -- get rid of the old technology first and
maybe somewhere in the future we will have some new technology."

Not really Bob. The new technology is here and being actively blocked
by the old technology industries. Don't you read the papers?

The Center, based in Spotsylvania, Virginia, is closely affiliated with
the Ayn Rand Institute. Rand was the philosopher who laid the
intellectual groundwork for Reaganism (Alan Greenspan is a Rand fan) --
no law restraining corporate power is a good law.

The Center for the Moral Defense of Capitalism feels the same way. Its
web site (www.moraldefense.org) is dominated by articles denouncing the
antitrust laws and the government's case against Microsoft.

One article, which is representative of the tone of the others, is
titled "The Injustice of Antitrust Laws as Reflected in the High-Tech
Lynching of Microsoft."

The article is written by Richard Salsman, a senior policy analyst at
the Center. Salsman compared the government's case against Microsoft to
a KKK lynching of a black man.

"Like the black man, the local victim didn't do anything wrong -- on
the contrary, he seems to have done everything right," Salsman writes.
"Still he is hated. He is despised. He is being lynched. For no other
reason. What will you do?"

Comparing the lynching of a flesh and blood human being to the
government's antitrust case against Microsoft is a bit over the top.

So, we wanted to know, who is funding your Center, Bob? Where is this
money coming from, anyway?

"We really don't feel comfortable giving out our donors -- we don't
consider it important," he said.

Wait a second Bob. What do you mean you don't consider it important? Is
this Microsoft money talking?

"I'm not going to answer that question," Tracinski said. "I don't
consider it to be important."

But then Bob breaks down -- a little.

"We have received money from Microsoft, but we aren't going to say how
much," Tracinski said.

Microsoft's Rick Miller confirmed that the company had donated to the
Center, but he too refused to reveal the amount of the contribution.

Miller said that Microsoft gives to a wide range of interest groups
across the political spectrum and doesn't support everything every one
of them says or believes. Gates, for example, is not in favor of
dismantling the antitrust laws, as is the Center, although Gates
believes the antitrust laws are being misapplied in the case at hand.

Still, if implemented, the extremist views of the Center for the Moral
Defense of Capitalism would lead to a society where big corporations would
be allowed to roam freely without restraint -- lawless corporations in a
lawless land.

Tracinski said he didn't understand why we wanted to know whether
Microsoft was funding his operation.

We want to know exactly what beast we are dealing with here, Bob. Don't
be like the Wizard of Oz, yelling at us not to look behind the curtain.

A whole pack of Totos is pulling on that curtain and nothing you can do
will prevent it from being ripped to shreds.

[CTRL] BILLIONAIRES FOR BUSH (OR GORE): We're Bipartisan--We Buy Republicans AND Democrats!

2000-05-20 Thread Nurev Ind Research

--
BILLIONAIRES FOR BUSH (OR GORE)

We're Bipartisan--We Buy Republicans AND Democrats!
We're paying for America's free elections (so you
won't have to)!
This is what PLUTOCRACY looks like!
Free the Forbes 400!

"Billionaires For Bush (Or Gore)" is a participatory mass
media stunt that humorously exposes how Big Money has
stolen our democracy and distorted national priorities
to serve corporate power. This summer, we're calling
for a "Million Billionaire March" at both the
Republican and Democratic conventions, as well as a
variety of smaller group visibility/guerrilla activities
at receptions, dinners, etc. We'll be
building up towards these mobilizations with a full
blown campaign, that includes: events, buttons,
bumper stickers, posters, a
theme song, a website, and maybe even a TV spot.

We're hoping that the Billionaires can help to provide
an integrating frame for the convention mobilizations
so that instead of looking like a fragmented circus
of groups fighting for air time, we come across as a
cohesive rainbow united by a common desire to reclaim
our democracy and society from the grip of big money
and the corporations.

At United for a Fair Economy, we've been doing the
Billionaires in various incarnations for a number of
years now. Some of you may have heard of our media-
jacking of Steve Forbes' presidential campaign
announcement in NH, or seen us in suits top-hats
working the crowd at the A16 march and rally. This
summer a host of groups are taking the concept to new
heights. The proposal is circulating and picking up
steam. We're eager for your ideas, participation and
collaboration.

We're in the process of putting together a Do-It-
Yourself Billionaires action kit, to be distributed to
activists all over the country. DIY actions ideas
include putting on a "Rally for the Really Rich" or
staging a "Tax Loophole Protection Day" or giving out
"Silver Spoon Awards" to local companies who receive
corporate welfare, or doing "Billionaire Barbecues" on
July 4, and a whole lot more.

The Billionaires is a versatile and robust vehicle.
It's an easy concept for participants to grab a hold
of and use in their own creative ways. It has been
used successfully to advocate for campaign finance
reform, domestic economic equality and global economic
justice.

The clever humor of Billionaires plays well in the
media. Even if the media butchers the story, the
campaign title, "Billionaires For Bush (Or Gore)"
communicates the core message. In 5 words it not only
makes people laugh but makes two very profound
arguments: 1) Big Money owns the candidates, and
2) whichever candidate wins, Big Money wins.

Some of the grass-roots publicity for the campaign
will be accomplished through our exciting new
PosterNation project, which is just getting off the
ground. PosterNation uses the web to coordinate
decentralized poster teams to put up a similar set of
posters all across the country on the same day.

The key poster for the campaign is an image that
digitally morphs together the faces of Bush and Gore,
with text underneath the face that reads "Gush Bore
2000." The image itself causes a provocative
uncomfortableness, eerily resembling both but also
neither candidate, and evoking the generic face of
entrenched power.

United for a Fair Economy has offered some resources
and staff time to coordinate the campaign, including
media, web maintenance, materials production, and
mobilizing our network of volunteers and performers.
We are looking for additional financial and organizing
support and pursuing collaboration with other groups
including Public Campaign, Direct Action Network,
Reclaim the Streets, Global Exchange ( caravan
partners), the Kensington Welfare Rights
Union, and US PIRG.

Here's some more one-liners and chants, etc:

Vote for Bush (or Gore)...Because Inequality Is Not
Growing Fast Enough!
More status than the status quo!
Bribery will get you everything.

Take to your cell phones, take to your faxes, join the
fight to end all taxes!
Let Workers Pay the Tax, So Investors can Relax!
Who needs day care, hire an au pair!
WealthFare! Not Health Care!

a vital weapon in the fight against genetic diseases, cancer and even AIDS
itself, a research team announced Thursday.
The team from the Pasteur Institute in Paris said it can show that the AIDS
virus is capable of introducing genes into an organism to replace faulty
genes which can provoke genetic diseases. The virus could also be used as a
"transporter" to deliver a vaccine to suppress cancerous tumors, or in the
case of AIDS to introduce blocking genes to stop the spread of the virus.

"All the genes in the (AIDS) virus would be replaced by 'healing-genes', and
we would only keep from the actual virus the machinery which allows it to
penetrate into cells," according to study leader Pierre Charneau.

The transporter virus is to be tested soon on monkeys infected with the SIV
virus, closely related to HIV. Researchers will use it to try to stop the
illness which normally kills the animal within six months.

[CTRL] BOUNCING AMERICANS UP AND DOWN ON GREENSPANS YO YO

2000-05-20 Thread Ronald L. Wilson

Can we believe that the actions of
Alan Greenspan and his cronies on the Federal Reserve Bank's Open Market
Committee are influenced by real or imagined fears of inflation or concern for
the country in general? They certainly are not compelled by any altruism
or compassion for their fellow man They are driven by simple
greed. A healthy, growing economy and strong stock market which benefit
the majority of our population necessitate low interest rates. Low interest
rates are bad for bank profits. So Greenspan cranks up interest rates (and bank
profits) in small increments and hopes the resulting impact on home mortgages,
consumer and business credit, prices, salaries, wages and the economy in general
don't cause that economy to collapse too rapidly If the decline
becomes too fast the FED can reduce rates to hopefully smooth things out.
This is a cyclical practice, a yo-yo effect which makes losers of everyone but
the bankers. The bankers, political lackeys and scholastic soothsayers cover
this up by endless talk of economic indicators, trends, formulas and other smoke
screens, but the bankers win and we lose.

Think about it - Mr. Greenspan works
for the FED. Not for the people or the government but the Federal Reserve
Bank - which not so incidentally, is neither federal nor has it any
reserves. The Federal Reserve System is a private conglomerate of banks
and bankers and institutional and individual stockholders. Stock which you and I
cannot buy and is not traded on any open market. The simplest
definition of the Federal Reserve System may be as a scheme and device to
control the nation's money supply and thereby loot the national treasury and rob
the people of their wealth. Our national debt is presently 5 trillion plus
dollars and 40 percent of your annual income is confiscated as taxes to pay the
approximate one billion dollar a day interest on that debt. Interest only - the
principle can never be paid off as the debt is ultimately redeemable only with
more borrowed money from the Federal Reserve Bank which is the source of every
dollar (note) in existence. Notes which are not even backed by the FED but
only by the "full faith and credit of the United States," and are actually
worthless.
Only monetary reform will bring
economic equity and freedom to the people of this country. Congress must
reassert its Constitutional power to be the sole coiner of money and the
regulator of its value. U. S. Treasury Notes owned by the people, not Federal
Reserve Notes owned by bankers. The federal government must no longer be
irredeemably indebted to private banks and unconstitutional confiscatory taxes
to pay interest on that debt must be abolished. Banks must be restricted to
their rightful status as mere depositories of funds. Unless we become the
masters of our own money we will live at the whim and mercy of those who
are. We are condemned to exist on the losing end of Greenspan's yo-yo
string.

[CTRL] Britland's Burden in African Scramble

2000-05-20 Thread Alamaine

From www.wsws.org

WSWS : News Analysis : Africa
Britain's military intervention in Sierra Leone part of a new "Scramble for
Africa"
By Chris Marsden and Chris Talbot
20 May 2000
Back to screen version

Britain's sending of over a thousand crack troops to Sierra Leone is a major
turn to direct intervention in Africa that has serious repercussions for both
the African masses and workers in the West.

As with previous military actions by the Blair Labour government in the Middle
East and the Balkans, the Sierra Leone operation was never discussed in
parliament until after the fact. Nor was there any attempt in advance of the
troop deployment to inform the British people. The undemocratic manner in which
the operation was launched is consistent with its character as a colonial-style
adventure. Its aims are two-fold: to secure immediate British interests in
Sierra Leone, and to demonstrate to London's great power rivals that Britain is
a major player in Africa, with the military muscle to back up its economic and
political ambitions.

To all intents and purposes, Britain has assumed de facto control of the
government of its former colony. It effectively mounted a take-over of the
United Nations mission, the Sierra Leone army and the pro-government militias
by the simple expedient of sending a small number of British "advisors" and SAS
men to take charge, and following this up with a substantial armed force.

Sierra Leone is the largest independent military operation carried out by
Britain since Margaret Thatcher dispatched a British task force to the Malvinas
(Falklands Islands) in 1982. Its forces are made up of 800 members of the
Parachute Regiment, 40 Special Air Service operatives and a further 600 Royal
Marines stationed offshore in combat readiness. The aircraft carrier HMS
Illustrious, the helicopter assault ship Oregon, three support ships and a
frigate are stationed in the capital Freetown's harbour.

The Labour government of Prime Minister Tony Blair has repeatedly redefined the
mission since it initially promised the action would be limited to “non-
combatant evacuation” of British nationals. It is now described by the
government as an exercise in “military diplomacy”.

Government spokesman at first insisted that British troops would not be
involved in direct confrontations with the rebel forces of Foday Sankoh's
Revolutionay United Front (RUF), but the Paras have already killed four RUF
members, while Brigadier David Richards let it be known that he would interpret
his “mission statement” liberally.

Notwithstanding its humanitarian rhetoric, the British government has spent
next to nothing combating the desperate poverty in Sierra Leone or providing
financial assistance to revive the economy. Almost all British aid has gone to
training the army and police. The issue of who controls Sierra Leone's mineral
wealth and, by extension, the far greater resources throughout Africa is the
Blair government's central concern.

Sierra Leone, officially the least developed country in the world, is wracked
by a civil war being fought over control of the country's diamond deposits.
According to the US State Department, Liberia presently exports £200 million
worth of diamonds a year, almost all of which come from Sierra Leone and are
supplied by the RUF rebels.

Ahmed Tejan Kabbah's Sierra Leone People's Party was elected in February 1996,
having promised to stabilise the country and make its safe for international
investors. But in May 1997, Major General Johnny Paul Koroma, an ally of the
RUF, carried through a military coup. The West African countries sent in a
“peacekeeping” force dominated by Nigeria, and the UN ordered a halt to the
supply of arms and petroleum products to Sierra Leone.

Unhappy with restrictions on its ability to intervene directly in Sierra Leone,
the Foreign Office in London came to an arrangement with the mercenary outfit
Sandline International for the purpose of breaching the UN embargo and aiding
pro-government forces. Sandline's specific remit was to help regain control of
the diamond producing areas.

Kabbah was returned to power on March 10, 1998, but in May the Blair government
was enmeshed in scandal after the agreement with Sandline came to public
attention. With the RUF continuing its attacks, Sandline forced to withdraw,
and the West African intervention force in disarray, the initiative in Sierra
Leone passed to the US—with Jesse Jackson playing a key role in securing a July
1999 peace agreement with the RUF.

The rebel forces received government posts and an amnesty for war crimes, with
Sankoh named Minister of Mines. But fighting continued between the RUF and UN
troops, as did abductions, rapes and other atrocities. Sankoh was not prepared
to relinquish his control of the diamond trade, and when this was threatened
earlier this spring his forces took some 500 UN troops hostage.

At the time of the Sandline revelations, the Blair government claimed it was
acting in the

Dear [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I am a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ myself, and I believe He came to
save the world for all sinners. Therefore, I'm quite shocked by the way you
mix Jesus Christ and cheap propaganda.

You ask why the "liberal western media" has not presented the case of
torture during WWII. Lack of evidence could be a good explanation, but I do
not deny that it happened. I know too little about the situation during
WWII.

However, I know quite a lot about the situation today. Recently, we have
seen claims of Albanian concentration camps in Kosovo, but no one has ever
been able to prove anything, and the claims are absolutely groundless.

One common argument has been to use the Helsinki Committee in Sandzak. The
problem, however, is that there is no Helsinki Committee in Sandzak, and no
one has been able to prove the existence of such camps.

Terrible things happened during WWII. No one doubts that. However, as a
Christian, isn't it your job to forgive and create better understanding
between peoples? That is what we in KFOR does in Kosovo every day. We try to
build bridges between the terrible rivers of hatred in this region.

No, it's not an easy task, and it will not be easier with someone like you
using your Christian faith to spread hatred. When you refer to what happened
during WWII, you just add to the division we are trying to deal with on a
daily basis. Your site is called Antiwar, but if you are against war, you
should try to create more understanding between peoples instead of creating
division.

Sincerely

Maj. Khars,

I would remind you that you are a foreign invader in someone else's country.
This is not the first time that " a believer in the lord Jesus Christ " has
done so. I dare say it is a common modus opperandus where you come from. But
PUH-LEASE don't blame Him for what you are doing.

Not only that, but your organization is responsible for what is on the ground
today. Nato committed war crimes in the execution of an illegal war. While you
have gotten away with it in the mean time, that information is becoming more
and more available to the world. The internet is why, and there aren't enough
propaganda hacks like you who will be able to change that.

No amount of " humanitarian " propaganda will get YOU off the hook should
things change. And things always change.

There are movements in several parts of the world who are pressing for you
and Nato's Western leaders to be charged with war crimes. The evidence is
abundant and available. The only reason it's not happening is because the
appropriate venues are dominated by the same elite leadership that runs Nato.

If you have children, you'll need a better excuse than "just following orders"
if they ever ask you what part you took in the destruction of Yugoslavia.

I know enough about history to point out the fact that the war against Yugo
changed the world DEFINITIVELY, and caused dramatic shifts in the world's
balance of power. For that reason it will always be someone's point of
reference and just won't go away. You are responsible for what you chose to do.

If I were you, I'd look for a another job. Try McDonalds, the organization
Nato destroyed a country for.

BullsEye for Leboutillier!

Former Congressman John Leboutillier was and is an expert on the POW
situation in Vietnam. I’m reprinting his column from newsmax.com here
because it so dramatically delineates the ugly result we now face after
50 years of malevolent Big Media psycho-warfare against the American
people, and 25 years of riggable computerized elections. The usurpers of
America would NEVER act the way they are acting if they couldn’t rely on
both! Here’s the column: Three Punks and Elian . . .

Three Punks and Elian
John LeBoutillier
Tuesday, May 9, 2000
One item that will not be discussed in today’s Bush-McCain meeting in
Pittsburgh is what to do to save little Elian Gonzalez from a lifetime
of hell if he is shipped back to Cuba.

This dismissal of Elian and the illegal and unconstitutional raid that
ripped him away from his Miami relatives is further proof that the GOP
leadership has lost its way and has ceded the moral high ground to the
least moral administration in our history.

Indeed Bush and McCain have both tried to emulate the political skills
of Bill Clinton. In fact, the entire GOP congressional leadership,
beginning with Newt Gingrich, patterned themselves on the Clinton model:
feigning interest and empathy while actually not giving a damn about
anything or anybody other than those who will give them money or a vote.

Bush and McCain have also fallen into the Clinton reliance on polling.
Neither one even blows his nose without taking a poll first. This is not
leadership. Leading means just that: going forward into
sometimes-uncharted territory and paving the way for others to follow.
Let us remember that it was Bush who told the Senate Republicans that to
have public hearings on Janet Reno’s raid was "a loser."

And it is McCain who keeps tripping off to Vietnam to deplore what
happened there. But he forgets: What happened to millions of Vietnamese,
including orphaned children, is exactly what is happening here to Elian.
McCain knows only too well that one of the most effective interrogators
inside the North Vietnamese POW system was a Cuban known to the POWs as
‘Fidel’. To this day most of our POWs claim they would personally kill
this man if they could get their hands on him. One such POW, Mike Benge,
recently saw a photograph of a present-day Cuban Cabinet officer who he
is certain is this ‘Fidel’!

How can these two supposed leaders of the once-great Republican Party be
so weak as to kowtow to not only Bill Clinton but also Fidel Castro?
Can you imagine what President Reagan, if he were healthy, would think
of his party today?

Let’s face it: These two fellows are each, in their own way, wise guy
punks. McCain in fact was nicknamed "The Punk" in high school. And Bush
has an arrogance and chip on his shoulder endemic to ‘punks’.
By the way, Clinton is the biggest punk of all. That petulant little
mouth of his indicates that he is a spoiled brat who always gets what he
wants.
These three punks – Clinton, Bush and McCain – are responsible for
allowing evil forces to tilt the debate on Elian away from the cold hard
truth. Remember that "all that is required for the triumph of evil is
for good men to do nothing." Let me explain:

Clinton wants to make deals with Fidel Castro. He can do so only if the
Republicans allow him. Bush has hardly muttered a peep about Elian. He
has not made it an issue at all. And McCain – if he had invested
one-tenth as much energy into Elian as he did to campaign finance reform
– could have forced the Elian issue onto the front political burner.
But because none of these three egomaniacs cares about Elian there is no
countervailing force to offset the Castro-Clinton-Reno Axis.
Thus Elian is a prisoner inside our country. He is probably undergoing
some type of horrific ‘reprogramming’ at the hands of Cuban
torture-meisters (perhaps trained by the ‘Fidel’ who worked on McCain’s
fellow POWs 25 years ago) and drug-wielding doctors.

Those who saw pictures and video of Elian emerging from the Smith Bagley
townhouse last Saturday night are certain that he appeared to be under
the influence of drugs.

Yet what will we hear from Bush and McCain in Pittsburgh today?

The silence is deafening.

End of Leboutillier column on Newsmax.

And we return to remark: We would only

[CTRL] N.Y.Times Calls For McCaffrey Probe

2000-05-20 Thread William Shannon

The New York Times

May 18, 2000

Editorial

The Last Battle of the Gulf War
The Army this week brushed off new reports that American forces needlessly
attacked retreating Iraqi troops after a cease-fire was declared in the
Persian Gulf war. The accounts, contained in a New Yorker article written by
Seymour Hersh, cannot be so easily dismissed. Though questions about the
battle were raised as the war ended in 1991, and subsequent Army
investigations found no fault, there is good reason for the Pentagon and
Congress to revisit the matter. Some officers familiar with the American
assault offer detailed testimony that one of the country's most decorated
commanders, Gen. Barry McCaffrey, ordered a punishing and unwarranted attack.

The sequence of events described by Mr. Hersh is complex and filled with the
confusion and ambiguities that are common in war. There are conflicting
accounts about what happened and why, and General McCaffrey, now retired from
the Army and serving as the Clinton administration's top drug-control
official, has vigorously defended his actions. But none of that justifies the
Army's cavalier response to the New Yorker article. Few matters are more
important to a democracy than the conduct of its military forces, and any
credible accusation of reckless or unjustified killing by American servicemen
must be thoroughly investigated by an independent panel of experts. The
Army's internal inquiries are not an adequate answer.

The core issue raised by the Hersh piece is whether General McCaffrey, who
was commander of the 24th Infantry Division, deliberately provoked a fight
with retreating Iraqi forces after the cease-fire was in place by blocking a
main escape route and then seizing on the firing of several Iraqi weapons to
launch a withering assault. The ferocity of the American attack is not in
question. American ground and air units all but pulverized a Republican Guard
tank division on March 2, 1991, in one of the most devastating and one-sided
battles of the war.

A number of General McCaffrey's fellow commanders, including Lt. Col. Patrick
Lamar, who was the division's operations officer, told Mr. Hersh that
excessive firepower was used against a weakened and retreating Iraqi force
that did not seriously threaten the Americans. They believe that the American
assault was a clear and willful violation of the cease-fire rules of
engagement that had been established by the Pentagon. General McCaffrey
maintains that he acted properly to defend his troops after the Iraqi forces
initiated combat. He denies that he blocked their escape route in hopes of
forcing a confrontation.

Mr. Hersh examines other serious charges involving General McCaffrey's
troops, including reports that they massacred a group of Iraqi prisoners of
war, but the evidence he cites here is not definitive. The Army's
investigations of all these matters, which cleared General McCaffrey and the
division, should not be the last word. The military services have a poor
record of holding their own members accountable for misconduct, especially
top officers.

As Walter Cronkite, the former CBS News anchorman, noted in a letter to The
Times earlier this week, the Pentagon's efforts to restrict coverage of the
war denied the American people an immediate and full account of the battles
American forces fought in Kuwait and Iraq. More comprehensive coverage might
long ago have clarified whether General McCaffrey's order to attack was
appropriate.

The Senate did not inquire deeply into the 24th Infantry Division's actions
when it approved promotions for General McCaffrey after the war or when it
confirmed his appointment to the drug policy post. Secretary of Defense
William Cohen should appoint an independent review panel. If he does not, the
Senate or House should conduct its own investigation. If General McCaffrey
acted responsibly, he should welcome an unflinching examination of the facts.

[CTRL] Mock Bio/Chem. Attacks In US.

2000-05-20 Thread William Shannon

Saturday May 20 11:23 PM ET
U.S. Conducts Mock Biological, Chemical Attacks
By Patrick Connole

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A series of mock terrorist attacks began on Saturday
in the United States, testing the ability of top local, state and federal
officials to respond to a catastrophic sequence of biological and chemical
releases.

In Portsmouth, New Hampshire, a spoof explosion of a Chevrolet van loaded
with unknown chemical agents kicked off the drill a few hours after daybreak
near the town's port, fictionally killing and maiming around 50 people.

A biological ``attack'' took place outside Denver, Colorado, and a third
series of exercises were being run in and around the nation's capital, the
Justice Department said.

Called ``Topoff'' -- short for Top Officials -- the largest ever such dress
rehearsal is being conducted by the Department of Justice and the Federal
Emergency Management Agency.

Thousands will participate in the 10-day exercise, including Attorney General
Janet Reno, other Cabinet members, mayors, local and state police, hospital
personnel and volunteer actors playing the role of injured and dead
civilians, according to the Justice Department.

``The goal of the exercise is to assess the nation's crisis and consequence
management capacity under extraordinarily stressful conditions,'' said Gina
Talamona, a Justice Department spokeswoman.

At a cost of $3.5 million, Topoff is the largest drill of its kind ever
conducted in the United States, and while the various officials knew the
exercise was to take place, they did not know before the exercise the size
and scope of what they were going to have to deal with, and still may not.

``No one was surprised, that's not the critical part. People knew this was a
drill they were responding to, but not to what they were responding to,''
said Jim Van Dongen from the New Hampshire Office of Emergency Management.

No Plans For Public Panic

``Topoff'' is being carefully orchestrated so as not to alarm the general
public. Police in responding areas are not using sirens and though physical
activity is taking place on the ground, it is not being done in a way to
excite the uninformed.

``The intent is to make sure this does not turn into the War of the Worlds,''
said a source with the Clinton administration, referring to the radio play
produced by Orson Welles in the 1930s which scared many Americans into
thinking Martians were attacking the planet.

In the Portsmouth attack, local officials said shortly after 8:20 a.m. EDT,
at the start of a make believe charity foot race, a fake car bombing sent a
foul smelling concoction of garlic mixed with Gatorade over the picturesque
Portsmouth Port Authority facility.

``A Portsmouth police officer was the first on the scene, then fire trucks,''
said Van Dongen.

Following procedure, local authorities called in toxic hazard teams, then
informed the statehouse of what was happening. Federal involvement followed,
after the governor's office requested a presidential disaster declaration,
freeing the FBI and FEMA to respond to the incident.

FBI Special Agent Barry Mawn told reporters the exercise was ``going pretty
well,'' as federal agents and police scurried around the dead and wounded in
Portsmouth.

The spoof terror incident in Colorado actually began two days ago under a
scenario in which a ``terrorist'' released ''anthrax spores'' in Denver.

Police were called to a Denver hotel room after a body was found. But what
first looked like a simple death soon turned into something else when police
noticed vomit and blood.

Other ``information'' that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had
``received'' about the same time prompted sending hazardous material
personnel to the scene.

Soon the bomb squad was dispatched to the hotel room, which was actually on
an old army hospital. Other events were expected during the 10-day exercise
in the Denver metropolitan area.

Congress Mandated Terror Drills

``Topoff'' stems from a provision inserted in a 1998 spending bill by
Republican Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire calling for ``practice
operations'' for a terror attack.

Critics of the exercise say it overstates the real threats facing America and
that such a broad range of attacks would be unlikely to happen all at the
same time.

In congressional testimony in March, CIA Director George Tenet said major
threats to U.S. security came from groups such as Saudi exile Osama bin
Laden's, which were trying to acquire biological and chemical weapons
capabilities.

Tenet said over the next few years U.S. cities faced ballistic missile
threats from a wide variety of sources: North Korea, probably Iran and
possibly Iraq.

Chemtrail protest grows

Protest against so-called chemtrails that are proliferating across the U.S.
is growing, with New Mexico the latest state to report protest activity. The
chemtrails are unexplained phenomenon that appears similar to the contrails
of jet aircraft. But they don't follow airline traffic routes or flight
patterns, often showing up in grid patterns.

Citizen action groups in Texas were among the first to raise an alarm, with
other organizations in Nebraska, the East and California following suit.
Organizations believe the chemtrails are some form of government or military
spraying project that is causing respiratory illness and other effects.

Now, a New Mexican chemtrail protest website at
www.carnicom.com/contrails.htm is calling on individuals to visit and fill
out an e-mail protest form for the president, Department of Defense and
Congress; nearly 700 letters have been sent since mid-March, reports the
site. The website also reports that the New Mexico Attorney General's Office
has begun accepting chemtrail complaints and that Rep.

Tom Udall has called for hearings before the U.S. House Transportation and
Infrastructure committee. Udall also told a constituent that he has asked
the Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Defense, and Los Alamos
lab to investigate the trails.

[CTRL] WHO OWNS HUMAN GENOME? GENESIS?

WHO OWNS HUMAN GENOME? GENESIS?

A new gold rush is on. But this time financiers are pouring fabulous
sums into prospecting for something far more valuable than gold. It is
the hunt for the genes that make humans function.

Although scientists predict the discoveries will fuel rapid advances
in medical care, many are concerned that the predicted miracle
therapies may be delayed and prove too pricey for many patients to
afford.

Their fears focus on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, which has
amassed a backlog of more than 10,000 applications for patents on
genetic discoveries, with more flooding in every day.

Many leading genetic scientists fear that if the office approves most
of these applications, the resulting swamp of overlapping patents
could bog down genetic testing and stagnate the development of new
drugs.

In part, the concern stems from powerful new technologies that are
making many of the discoveries possible. Until recently,
identification and location of a human gene was a laborious search
that started with a protein and worked backward to the gene that
produces it. Usually, scientists understood an important function of
the gene before they found it.

But today, the sequence has been reversed. Robotic laboratories are
shredding and sequencing DNA on an industrial scale and spitting out
the code for almost countless pieces of genes.

With powerful computers combing through public databases, scientists
can find similar snippets of genome to which scientists have traced a
function. These so-called homology searches may be enough to satisfy
the patent examiners that a newly "discovered" piece-of-a-gene is
useful enough to get a patent, according to John Doll, who heads the
office's biotechnology section.

That could produce "a cross-licensing nightmare," complains Michael
Watson, former co-chairman of the genetic testing group advising the
National Institutes of Health and Department of Energy, in which many
parties wind up with rights to parts of the same gene.

Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health's
National Human Genome Research Institute, shares that fear. When
researchers want to study a broad cross-section of genes, Collins
theorizes, "they're going to have a very hard time doing it without
infringing on several people's patents."

"You'll have the whole genome sort of Balkanized with all these pieces
that have fences around them," Collins says. The result, he fears, is
that much important research will not be performed.

What's more, Collins argues that proposed new gene patenting rules
will allow people to get a patent based on educated guesses that a
section of DNA does what similar pieces do — guesses that in many
cases will prove wrong or insignificant compared to the gene's other
functions. And others worry that patents will drive up the cost of
genetic testing while chilling the improvement of test methods — or
that they already have.

Myriad Genetics Inc. of Salt Lake City, for instance, warned the
University of Pennsylvania's genetics laboratory to stop conducting
broad tests for two genes that have been linked to elevated breast
cancer risk. Penn said it was performing the tests for half the price
that Myriad Genetics charges for its test for the genes.

Dr. Debra G. B. Leonard, director of Penn's Molecular Pathology
Laboratory and president of the Association for Molecular Biology,
compares Myriad's move to a company monopolizing appendectomies and
charging $10,000 for them. Some people won't be able to afford the
procedure, she says, and the monopoly prevents others from improving
the test.

Myriad argues that it was the first to find the breast cancer genes
and patent the test for them. "We don't want people to use that to go
into business and compete with us," says the firm's spokesman, Bill
Hockett.

Hockett contends Myriad's test is more accurate than Penn's, that it
can be obtained by doctors across the United States, and that the
company has a program to lower the cost to patients who cannot afford
the full price.

But Leonard's view is widely shared in the medical community. "We feel
strongly that the whole fruits of the genome project will be
unavailable" if most of the backlogged applications lead to patents,
says (Dr.) Rod Howell, president of the American College of Medical
Genetics. "It's absolutely essential that we have testing that is
accessible and affordable."

An ethical swamp, too
Some people voice moral objections to patenting human genes. Dr.
Robert Nussbaum, a molecular geneticist at NIH, calls patenting human
DNA "abhorrent." And doing it by searching public databases for
similar pieces of DNA is "intellectually dishonest," Nussbaum says.

Since most public data have
