Grant them comfort, stamina and peace in their noble efforts. Bless the web page so that it may continue to serve these brave warriors in brotherly love. I ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ. + God bless you all, - Chaplain Ed Skinner Comfort the Sick - veterans ministry Reply-to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Subject: ATTENTION VIETNAM VETS Date: 99-08-23 14:13:51 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Dear Friend, In the mid 60's, when I realized that there was a country called Vietnam, and that there were people, servicemen and women, fighting for OUR country, I felt an obligation to do something. I had no idea what to do, for I was young and a female. How could I help our sweet men in the jungle? I felt so helpless......But in my heart was this urge to help out somehow. All I could do was pray for them until I found a list of addresses...addresses of guys that needed a letter from home.... There were about 50 names and trying to decide which ones to write to was hard, so I simply took the whole list. I wrote to each and everyone of those sweet soldiers. They really liked me at the Post Office because most of the soldiers received packages from me. I corresponded with about 6 of them weekly or whenever they had time to write to me....the sad part was that some letters would come back to me.....unopened.... stamped and restamped, like they had gone from one part of the Nam to the other, trying to find the soldier. Some, I never heard from again. I would cry but would tell myself that it was because they didnt want to write to me anymore, or they had lost my address....but I didnt want to know that it was because something had happened to them. Many a day I would just start crying at work... trying to hide it.... knowing that my co-workers would not understand. I am a very emotional person...I cried for you then and I'm crying for you now as I write this. YOU are ALL part of my life...YOU are ALL in my heart....and my mission is to thank each and everyone of you...to tell you that I DO APPRECIATE YOU....that YOU are NOT FORGOTTEN....and to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.... So you see, I'm also a Vet in my own right..I went through this with you...maybe not carrying a rifle or humping through the jungle or getting wounded...but with my heart, here at home....praying and writing and crying for ALL OF YOU....and please know that I was and still am....SO VERY PROUD OF EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU!! I have written this in the hope that, somewhere out there, is a soldier that remembers getting a package or a letter or perhaps remembers writing to me....I know there has to be. But perhaps too much time has gone by and the memory of a letter from a young gal in California is erased. Yes, it has been a long time since that awful war....and I wish that it had never happened....but it did and we lost our loved ones and our "buddies". But now its time to go on....time to support each other and remember the HEROES that lost their lives for us....and I for one will NEVER forget but will keep YOU in my heart and pray for you daily. I wish each of you health, peace, happiness and LOVE. Our web sites address 2 of 3 major problems facing America's veterans today. The first, we can do little about. That is, those WWII vets who gallantly fought for and gave us the freedoms we enjoy today are aging to the extent of dying at a rate of over 10,000 per month, usually in the normal processes of life. For them we can but salute and pray The second is the savagery being thrust upon tens of thousands of our ailing veterans who, like wilting flowers, have aged to the extent that they are to spend their final days, in a nursing home, too often without a friend or relative left. That is where our web page, www.AdoptaVet.com is trying to get everyday citizens to "adopt a vet" initially through cards sent to them on a regular basis - so they will not spend their final days alone. The third problem is that our combat-disabled veterans, along with those ailing through aging, are too often left, helpless, in these nursing homes throughout the country in tragic conditions of abuse, neglect and exploitation. That is where our web page, www.USveterans.org is trying to encourage concerned citizens to go into these nursing homes as commissioned ministers and inspectors to help put a stop to it - so our veterans are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. Neither program costs anything for a patriot to participate. Both offer a true patriot opportunities to give comfort to our ailing veterans - so they will not spend their final days alone or abused. Our 4th Infantry Division Association is currently involved in building a monument to the 4th Infantry Division Vets of all eras on Memorial Drive right next to the visitor's center in Arlington National Cemetary. Our approved monument will be erected during March/April Y2K. However we still need approximately $40,000 to pay for it. We have raised almost $200,000 from our membership but we feel we have only touched a small percentage of our 4th Division vets.
