Incidentally, the reporting ofLincoln Douglas debates was extensively
doctored to favor Lincoln
Ray previously knew Lincoln from the paper he owned in Quincy with my
GGGrandfather William O Thomas.
Lincoln met Medill when he was calling on Ray and thougt Medills name
was Dill. Medill saw possibilities but mistook L. for a dummy who he
could control- same mistake the medillocrats havemaderight down to the
present- McKinley, Hitler, Dan Quayle. Even a worm like quayle gets fed
up eventually. Lincoln chucked medill the minute he was elected. (good
thing too) but humored him to keep the only NW pape on his side.
