[CTRL] Mike and attacks on long standing members

2000-05-01 Thread Tara

Nessie, Mike is not a son of a bitch. He never threatened you in anyway, nor
anyone else on this list. Get a grip. No one even knows who the hell you
are! The slander of individual's mental states, the slander of our religions
on this list are intolerable. And now one of the most prolific members has
been removed for no proper reason in my eyes, and I'm sure the eyes of many
others. And you dare to call HIM a son of a bitch. If someone shoots you, I
would imagine it will be someone who knows you very well, not someone from
an email list, and certainly not one sworn to uphold the law.

This has got to be the most hate filled and bigoted email list to which I've
ever belonged. If one is not a nut like the rest they are treated like shit,
insulted without provocation, kicked off, called a son of a bitch. (I guess
that would make Mike June's son). I don't need to be fired. I quit. You are
by far the most disgusting group of idiots and I hope that you continue to
enjoy your little party. And maybe with luck, you'll all piss somebody off
so much that they do you all. You can only hope for the day. I do believe
that you would be so proud. Especially if it were blamed on a Christian.
What a feather in your bloody cap that would be!

That's not a threat, but it seems an interpretation of what you truly
believe that Christians are. And what I think would be your dream come true
Nessie.

Ever heard of a self fulfilling prophecy? Better think about it, you guys
send out the most hate filled vibes I have ever encountered and the farther
I get away from you the more wonderful my life will be.

By the way June, I think you are the one who needs a long term stay in a
psych hospital. I hope you don't have any kids! (if you do, is one of them
named Damien?)

Josh, you're just a butt wipe. Nuf said.

2000-05-01 Thread Chris Gaydosh

As someone who is relatively new to the list, I would like to know if anyone
knows what is going on or are we all stumbling through the darkness trying
to decide who, if anyone, is wearing a white hat??

The ongoing debate over evolution has deteriorated to namecalling instead of any
form of serious inquiry, conspiracy or otherwise. About half way through, I
completely lost track of who was on which side. Arguing and claiming each other
morally and intellectually bankrupt was the only discourse.

Now, it appears, paranoia has set in.

At last, some real conspiracy--- created and maintained by our own list members.

What you have witnessed recently has happened over and over and over the nearly
3 years I have been subscribed to this list. Things are quiet for a few months
and then some folks come along and start a beef.

I think it is inevitable that a list devoted to this subject matter will wander
off topic. Even Kris sometimes posts some things that can only tenuously be
categorized as 'conspiracy theory.' A lot of ideological material gets posted
here (from all over the spectrum.) And while some believe that the disruptive
folks are some sort of disinfo agents, I think they are just the flakes of the
world looking for a place to vent (though I have no evidence to back this up.)

Our beleaguered Kris has few weapons at his disposal to deal with disruption.
So Mr. Gaydosh my advice is to either ignore or draw entertainment value from
the occasional war of words, use the delete key often, and keep your eyes
peeled for the bits of good information.

Actually this no longer needs to be true.
If the list was switched to Egroups where I have managed
five lists for several years.

I am ruthless about lack of respect and have no problems
maintaining an environment
that is postive and educational. It is very easy to place
offenders on moderation to moderate who comes on the list,
and indeed to ban with little effort by the moderators.
http://www.egroups.com
and best of all it is a free service with an excellent
archive, search engine and additional benefits for members
such as chat, calender, file storage (not archives which is
different) and more.
If Kris ever decides to move over there I will be glad to
assist with transition and integration.
Working with a list serve is too unwieldy for me.

2000-05-01 Thread Jeff Russo

It is not rocket science to ban a poster with listserv either; the problem is
that there are 5000 free email sites out there and someone can easily re-appear
in another guise. I believe this has happened to CTRL several times in the last
few years.

From: "Kirimaku" [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Actually this no longer needs to be true.
If the list was switched to Egroups where I have managed
 five lists for several years.

I second Kirimaku's suggestion regarding eGroups...I run a
couple of lists there myself, and find it quite easy to do,
especially when it comes to moderating certain subscribers
and approving their posts (something I only do on rare
occasions)

It is very easy to place
offenders on moderation to moderate who comes on the list,
and indeed to ban with little effort by the moderators.

Also to moderate the posts. You can set up the list options
so that the moderator(s) get a copy of the moderated post,
which they have the option to approve via email, or to go
onto the website to read the post in its entirety...

 http://www.egroups.com
and best of all it is a free service with an excellent
archive, search engine and additional benefits for members
such as chat, calender, file storage (not archives which is
 different) and more.

The chat function is funky right now. Apparantly works for
Netscape browsers, but IE has problems with it. According to
the Merger email list I'm on (discussion of the Onelist and
eGroups merger), it is a known problem which they are working
on. Translated, it means "don't hold your breath expecting a
fix any time soon"...

If Kris ever decides to move over there I will be glad to
 assist with transition and integration.

Same here.

Working with a list serve is too unwieldy for me.

Same here... ;-)

Re: [CTRL] Mike and attacks on long standing members

2000-05-01 Thread tenebroust

Yes indeed, good comments from both of you Jeff and Chris. I tend to think this is
just some people hell bent on exposing their grand ideas to the world and when someone
disagrees with them they get a little bent out of shape and then the posts just have
one place to go, down the sewer pipe.
Please let us stay focussed on the issues and not each other, let us avoid discussing
issues f FAITH and BELIEF in a way that is designed to inflame (in other words don't
spout off about how YOUR belief is BETTER than someone elses or that someone is going
to hell for believing what THEY believe). Issues of strong emotional content
(religion, abortion, evolution, etc.) CAN be discussed here IF the focus is on the
ISSUE and IF it has relevance t Conspiracy Theory, it's as simple as that. Calling
people Baby Killers does nothing to foster debate nor does it have anything to do with
CT. Saying Creationists are stupid fools (or some such) does nothing to encourage
debate nor is it in any way related to CT. Caling people "idiot", etc., exposes no
conspiracy nor does it enlighten anyone (if someone says something stupid or posts
crap most people here will be able to smell its reek without having to be told that
"so-and-so" is a big stupid jerk that is full of shit).
Please bring issues, and have them relate to CT and don't think that your comments are
holy writ and expect that everyone will sit idly by and accept what you say. Remember
too that longevity on this list affords you no special status or priviledge.
