[CTRL] Prescriptions was 10 reasons etc.
My former pediatrician, Luis Pupo, insisted my child take Zithromax for an infection even after seeing the insurance formulary from Anthem showing that Zithromax was not covered. Amoxicillin, which was covered, would have done the job in question. We're going through the same battle with our new insurance and my husband's Lipitor. No generic available, not approved by insurance, $240 a month. Lipitor is the one being touted in the fancy full-page ads in popular magazines like National Geographic. It's biggest cometitor, lovastatin, is available as a generic and in an OTC herbal preparation called Cholestin. http://onhealth.com/conditions/briefs/item,39015.asp --- Kathleen [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On 15 May 00, at 6:19, Tenorlove wrote: they refuse to prescribe lower-priced meds, even if one is available for the condition. Two instances don't warrant a blanket statement. You could (1 change physicians or 2(Hold your ground and insist on the lower priced drug 3)Ask for samples Just FYI however, not all statins are equivalent. Ask if there is something in your husbands lipid panel that makes Lipitor the best choice. The pediatrician's preference for Zithromax most likely was based on the proven fact that more people will complete a 5 day course of treatment than a 10 day course. Kat is absolutely correct here...not only is Zithromax the "latest and greatest" it also help that the dose is shorter in duration. Patients are notoriously bad at fulfilling their obligation after they start feeling better...and that's how resistant "bugs" are hatched...Ain't evolution great? Bill. I'll remind him to ask. The pediatrician's preference for Zithromax most likely was based on the proven fact that more people will complete a 5 day course of treatment than a 10 day course. Many people start to get better, stop the antibiotic and contribute to the emergence of a resistant organism. And these are the same people who don't make an effort to prevent the infections in the first place. But that's a whole 'nuther topic. __ Do You Yahoo!?
