started with the year 1001, and will end at the stroke of midnight on
December 31, 2000. The third millenium doesn't start until January 1,
2001 (in our present calendar system).
This is a theological debate, not numerical. Consensus is impossible.
Anyway, numerous other calendar systems have already passed their 2nd,
4th, 6th millennia without discernible damage [or benefit] to humanity.
Those expecting this time-passage to be any different are [character-
ization deleted]. But it gives them something to obsess over...
Depending on who does the calculating, we're actually approaching year
7500 AM [Anno Mundi, since the creation of the world, a calendric system
