More and more people, as well as a few politicians, are in agreement.
Decrimminalization, and I would go so far as legalization, is the only
answer. From any point of view you can take (except "The Moral
Imperative" that is against any and all forms of free will) the current
policy of crimminalization for certain drugs while other more dangerous
drugs are touted on tv is a total failure. But there is money to be made
in the War on Drugs so be assured it will continue.
A little mentioned, and far more destructive to society as a whole, side
issue is the whole drug testing issue. In most areas 75% of the blue
collar jobs demand a drug test BEFORE any hiring, and random testing
thereafter. This is not true for management or executives in those same
companies. Many are not aware that, while we are deluged with calls to
make drug testing mandatory for students, no public school teachers,
coaches, janitors or secretaries are tested. In fact, unless you fall
under DOT mandates, no government employees can be tested. No
politicians can be tested. Now ask yourselves this; if our politicians
maintain that we must test all workers, students, and welfare recipients,
why shouldn't the politicians be tested? If a company demands drug
testing for all blue collar workers, why shouldn't all managers and
executives be tested?
Another interesting thing: According to the Supreme Court drug testing
is a search of the person. Do you realize that, according to our legal
system, the Constitution only applies to what government does to us, and
NOT what private companies can do to us? That's right, private
employeers can do pretty much what they want to the workers as a
'condition of employment'.
