In siding with the Justice Department, the appeals court said

inducement to joining or staying in the military.

Isn't that odd? When my husband retired from the USAF in l977, he was given
a copy of AFP 211-1-12, Air Force Guide for Retired Personnel.

On page 53 it says:

Under the provisions of chapter 55, title l0, U.S.C., retired members and
their eligible dependents are authorized certain hospitalization and
outpatient care in civilian medical facilities as well as uniformed services
facilities. Medical or dental care provided retired members nd their
dependents in uniformed services medical facilities is subject to the
availability of space and facilities and the capabilities of the professional
staff. Retired members (but not their dependents), may also receive care in
Veterans Administration facilties on a space-available basis. They will no
longer have to state under oath that they are financially unable to defray
the cost of care. Dental care, except as a necessary adjunct to medical or
surgical treatment, is not authorized from civilian sources.

Para 113. Eligibility. Those eligible for authorized medical benefits
include:

a. Retired member (any member or former member of a uniformed service
who is entitled to retired, retainer, or equivalent pay as a result of
service in a uniformed service).

 b. Spouse

c. Unremarried widow.

d. Unremaried widower

Etc, etc, etc.

And even though it stipulates that those over 65 will be eligible for
civilian care under the Social Security Medicare Program and will no longer
be eligible for civilian care under the Uniformed Services Health Benefits
Program. The last sentence of that paragraph announcing this says, "All
beneficiaries, however, may continue to receive space-available care in
uniformed services facilities.

It really doesn't appear that the promises of recruiters had much to do with
it. I do recall it commonly mentioned that the wonderful medical care we
would all receive would make up for the rather poor pay package the military
was and is quite famous for. Guess the recruiters should find something
else to talk about anyway.

This should be no surprise. They were duped into fighting for the elite, and
they were duped into believing it was a patriotic thing to do, and they were
duped into thinking that this country had any honor left. It's just more of
the same.
