While European conspiraloons tend to focus, quite understandably, on Bilderberg the Trilats are very rarely mentioned. Why is this so, especially when it is the Bilderbergers who are the more secretive of the two? Bilderberg was founded, in the early 'fifties, as essentially an Atlanticist group meant to bring together capital's big business interests in Europe and North America. At the time it was feared there was a real danger that western European countries might adopt a neutralist outlook and, in consequence, be pulled into the hegemony of the Soviet Union. Hence, it was natural for the great and the good in both Europe and North America to conspire together in exclusive 'private clubs' like Bilderberg to prevent that from happening and to keep democracy (ie western capitalism) alive. It was through no accident then, that the group gets its name from the Hotel de Bilderberg in Oosterbeek, Holland where it was founded with the late Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands as its figurehead. The Trilateral Commission sprang from the Bilderbergers when one of its principal members, Esso or Standard Oil's David Rockefeller came into conflict with his fellows over whether to include Japan in the club. To introduce an Asian economic power into what was a club of rich Caucasians, it appears, was simply not on! So Rockefeller funded and set up the New York-based Trilateral Commission in 1973 with Zbigniew Brzezinski as its intellectual architect. Significantly, its inaugural meeting was held in Tokyo. The Trilateral Commission has a strong working relationship with the Council on Foreign Relations, itself the sister group of the UK- based Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House). It is divided into three regional sectors, North America, Europe and Asia. Many of its members are also Bilderbergers with the same mutual interests for the development of globalization, the so- called economics of 'neo-liberalism' including wholesale privatization of anything that moves, the new world order and corporate capitalist totalitarianism. When conspiraloons refer to the mysterious Illuminati it's easy enough to dismiss them as fanciful conspiracy nuts. The Illuminati appear to have existed in past centuries. The head of the Seventeenth Century Order of Freemasons, the Duke of Brunswick, once accused them of having infiltrated masonry using black magic, mesmerism and the art of suggestion to program victims. “I have been convinced that we, as an Order, have come under the power of some very evil occult Order, profoundly versed in science, both occult and otherwise, though not infallible, their method being BLACK MAGIC, that is to say, electro-magnetic power, hypnotism and powerful suggestion. We are convinced that the Order is being controlled by some Sun Order, after the nature of the Illuminati, if not by that Order itself.” (Source) Whether or not the Illuminati still exist in name or in some other form, such as the masons, is an interesting question. But what is clear enough is that organizations like Bilderberg and the Trilateral Commission not only fit the conspiratorial description given to the mysterious Illuminati but, in the more prosaic light of day, that it is they who actually deal with the nuts and bolts of manifesting the new, totalitarian world order. So, to avoid being dismissed as a conspiracy nut or a conspiraloon (a term proudly used by blogger, Stef Zucconi in the face of supercilious sniggering from the MSM's whores) it makes eminent sense for activists to focus on groups such as Bilderberg, the Trilats and the CFR as the obvious conspirators whose history is there for anyone who cares to research it to see. Anti-globalization activists are advised, therefore, always to refer to Bilderberg and the Trilateral Commission in conjunction as complementary 'private clubs' behind the G8. For these are REAL organizations whose raison d'etre is an ongoing conspiracy. The mainstream media dares not mention them because it would be more than its jobs are worth. The MSM work to promote them. Hence their conspiracy of silence about the conspirators. But if you, too, are a conspiraloon who likes to do his or her own research I would

-Caveat Lector- Begin forwarded message: From: Mario Profaca [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: June 5, 2007 4:40:40 AM PDT To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [SPY NEWS] Why are we scared of Bilderberg? Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.turkishdailynews.com.tr/article.php?enewsid=74734 Why are we scared of Bilderberg? Friday, June 1, 2007 Mehmet Ali Birand It is the day of the conspiracy theorists. They will be coming up with many fantasies starting today and lasting through the weekend. One wonders what they will come up with. They will form hard-to-believe stories about Turkey's future. The reason for this exciting development is that the Bilderberg meeting is taking place in Istanbul this year. According to conspiracy theorists, people against the West, nationalists, and fundamentalists, Bilderberg is no different from a mafia establishment full of tie-wearing, famous, influential people. They convene each year to decide how they will run the world and which country they would like to push and in what direction. But Bilderberg has nothing to do with any of this. Participants of the meeting do wear ties, and they are well-known and influential people in their countries. However, one should not believe in what he or she hears or reads apart from these facts. Bilderberg meetings constitute a forum where international developments are discussed, debated, and where participants learn a lot from each other. It is not much different from a seminar or a conference organized by an upscale NGO. The difference is the participants. The distinctness of the organization is a result of the quality of its participants, and not the decisions they make. The reason for the confidentiality of the meetings is that attendees can reveal their views without constraints. So that they do not bite on their tongues, worried “How will the media reflect what I say?” If well-known influential people convene in a luxury hotel under strict security measures for three days, it paves the way for conspiracy theorists. We should be happy that Bilderberg is taking place in Turkey, at a time of the Iraq catastrophe, the increased Kurdish activity, and the Islamic-secular debate. There is an uncertainty in the international public opinion. Rumors of a coup are increasing. The tensions between the government on one side and the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), the opposition, and the justice on the other are escalating. For the first time, Turkey's future is being discussed very seriously. Under these circumstances, coming together in Istanbul, they will also discuss Turkey. They will try to make heads and tails of the situation. They will receive information. Let's not forget that their gathering in Istanbul is an opportunity for all of us because of these aspects of the meeting. What is Bilderberg? Polish sociologist Joseph Retinger first brought up the idea in 1954 against the dangers created by the increasing anti-Americanism in Europe. It became active when the Dutch Prince Bernard, Unilever Chairman Paul van Zeeland, who later became Belgium's prime minister, and Paul Rijkens joined in. It got its name from Hotel de Bilderberg in Arnhem, Holland, where the first meeting took place on May 29, 1954. Two conservatives and two liberals were invited from each European country and the United States. The aim was to strengthen the relations between the United States and Europe and to form a common civilian frontier against the Soviet threat. Nearly 100 people were invited among politicians, businesspeople, bankers, journalists, and from the artistic-cultural circles. The meeting was so successful that its founders decided to hold it on a yearly basis. It had a general secretary, a 20-person administrative board, a small secretariat, and participants from three categories: permanent members, temporary members, and temporary guests that were invited to every meeting. No elections are held for the board; new members are chosen among those suggested by older members. Though at first all board members financially contributed, later the financing of the meeting was supported through rolling capital. Furthermore, as the administrative board and the participators in the meetings pay for their expenses, the organization does not need a substantial income. The names of attendees are revealed but what is said cannot be revealed in detail or who said what. It was because of this secrecy that Bilderbergers got criticized for first being a CIA organization, then a Vatican organization. But they never discontinued their work. They were not perturbed by the criticisms. Carried on for the past 53 years, these meeting are institutionalized. They are carrying on with the participation of people such as Dr. Kissinger, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Alec Douglas Home, Lord Carrington, Clinton, and Blair.

Chris Hedges is a graduate of Harvard Divinity School and won a Pulitzer Prize as a foreign correspondent for the New York Times. Armed units from the private security firm Blackwater USA opened fire in Baghdad streets twice in two days last week. It triggered a standoff between the security contractors and Iraqi forces, a reminder that the war in Iraq may be remembered mostly in our history books for empowering and building America's first modern mercenary army. There are an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 armed security contractors working in Iraq, although there are no official figures and some estimates run much higher. Security contractors are not counted as part of the coalition forces. When the number of private mercenary fighters is added to other civilian military contractors who carry out logistical support activities such as food preparation, the number rises to about 126,000. We got 126,000 contractors over there, some of them making more than the secretary of defense, said House defense appropriations subcommittee Chairman John Murtha (D., Pa.). How in the hell do you justify that? The privatization of war hands an incentive to American corporations, many with tremendous political clout, to keep us mired down in Iraq. But even more disturbing is the steady rise of this modern Praetorian Guard. The Praetorian Guard in ancient Rome was a paramilitary force that defied legal constraints, made violence part of the political discourse, and eventually plunged the Roman Republic into tyranny and despotism. Despotic movements need paramilitary forces that operate outside the law, forces that sow fear among potential opponents, and are capable of physically silencing those branded by their leaders as traitors. And in the wrong hands, a Blackwater could well become that force. American taxpayers have so far handed a staggering $4 billion to armed security companies in Iraq such as Blackwater, according to House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Rep. Henry Waxman (D., Calif.). Tens of billions more have been paid to companies that provide logistical support. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D., Ill.) of the House Intelligence Committee estimates that 40 cents of every dollar spent on the occupation has gone to war contractors. It is unlikely that any of these corporations will push for an early withdrawal. The profits are too lucrative. Mercenary forces like Blackwater operate beyond civilian and military law. They are covered by a 2004 edict passed by American occupation authorities in Iraq that immunizes all civilian contractors in Iraq from prosecution. Blackwater, barely a decade old, has migrated from Iraq to set up operations in the United States and nine other countries. It trains Afghan security forces and has established a base a few miles from the Iranian border. The huge contracts from the war - including $750 million from the State Department since 2004 - have allowed Blackwater to amass a fleet of more than 20 aircraft, including helicopter gunships. Jeremy Scahill, the author of Blackwater: The Rise of the World's Most Powerful Mercenary Army, points out that Blackwater has also constructed the world's largest private military facility - a 7,000-acre compound near the Great Dismal Swamp of North Carolina. Blackwater also recently opened a facility in Illinois (Blackwater North) and, despite local opposition, is moving ahead with plans to build another huge training base near San Diego. The company recently announced it was creating a private intelligence branch called Total Intelligence. Erik Prince, who founded and runs Blackwater, is a man who appears to have little time for the niceties of democracy. He has close ties with the radical Christian Right and the Bush White House. He champions his company as a patriotic extension of the U.S. military. His employees, in an act as cynical as it is dishonest, take an oath of loyalty to the Constitution. But what he and his allies have built is a mercenary army, paid for with government money, which operates outside the law and without constitutional constraint. Mercenary units are a vital instrument

There was, of course, often a basis for various nationalisms to build upon, but the essentially artificial function of forming nations from very little or nothing was common. Wars were the most conducive to this enterprise, and the emergence of what was termed socialism after 1914 – which had a crucial nationalist basis in such places as China and Vietnam – was due to the fact that foreign invasions greatly magnified nationalism's ability to build on ephemeral foundations to merge socialism and patriotism. For a vital component of nationalism, often its sole one, was a hatred of foreigners – others – giving it largely a negative function rather than an assertion of distinctive values and traits essential to a unique entity. Myths, often far-fetched and irrational, were built. Zionism is the focus of this discussion but it was scarcely alone. Vienna was surely the most intellectually creative place in the world at the end of the 19th century. Economics, art, philosophy, political theories on the Right as well as Left, psychoanalysis – Vienna gave birth or influenced most of them. Ideas had to be very original to be noticed, and most were. We must understand the unique and rare innovative environment in which Theodore Herzl, an assimilated Hungarian Jew who became the founder of Zionism, functioned. For a time he was also a German nationalist and went through phases admiring Richard Wagner and Martin Luther. Herzl was many things, including a very efficient organizer, but he was also very conservative and feared that Jews without a state – especially those in Russia – would become [Marxist-Leninist] revolutionaries. A state based on religion rather than the will of all of its inhabitants was at the end of the 19th century not only a medieval notion but also a very eccentric idea, one Herzl concocted in the rarified environment of cafes where ideas were produced with scant regard for reality. It was also full of countless contradictions, based not merely on the conflicts between theological dogmas and democracy but also vast cultural differences among Jews, all of which were to appear later. Europe's Jews have precious little in common, and their mores and languages are very distinct. But the gap between Jews from Europe and those from the Arab world was far, far greater. Moreover, there were many radically different kinds of Zionism within a small movement, ranging from the religiously motivated to Marxists who wanted to cease being Jews altogether and, as Ber Borochov would have it, become normal. In the end, all that was to unite Israel was a military ethic premised on a hatred of others around them – and it was to become a warrior-state, a virtual Sparta dominated by its army. Initially, at least, Herzl had the fate of Russian and East European Jews in mind; the outcome was very different. Zionism was original but at the turn of the century its following was close to non-existent. An important exception was the interest of Lord Rothschild. Moreover, from its inception Zionism was symbiotic on Great Powers – principally Great Britain – that saw it as a way of spreading their colonial ambitions to the Middle East. As early as 1902 Herzl met with Joseph Chamberlain, then British Colonial Secretary, to further Zionist claims in the region bordering Egypt, and the following year he hired David Lloyd George – later to become prime minister – to handle the Zionist case. Herzl also unsuccessfully asked the sultan of the Ottoman Empire if he might obtain Palestine, after which he advocated establishing a state in Uganda – although his followers much preferred the Holy Land. Only the principle of a Jewish State, anywhere, appealed to him – but mainly for Jews in the Russian Empire. Herzl was only the first in the Zionist tradition of advocating a state for others; he was never in favor of all Jews moving there. Chaim Weizmann wrote Herzl in 1903 that the large majority of the young Jews in Russia were anti-Zionist because they were revolutionaries – which only reinforced Herzl's convictions. In 1913 British Intelligence estimated that perhaps one percent of the Jews had Zionist affiliations, a

I rolled tape as Goeas took the bait, asking Where are your credentials? and Do any real reporters have some questions? But someone finally wrangled security and the reporter was escorted out, followed by a phalanx of cameramen.
