lftp md5sum mismatch
Luke Kendall noticed that the md5sum of lftp/setup.hint isn't right in md5.sum on the Cygwin mirrors. What seems to have happened is that trailing spaces were stripped from 4 lines in setup.hint before its md5sum was computed; but the original setup.hint, with trailing spaces intact, went into the archives. I'm not sure how that happened-- bug on sourceware.org? Anyway, the URL of an adjusted setup.hint, without the trailing spaces, is below. Its md5sum matches the one in md5.sum in the archives. Please upload. Thanks, Andrew. wget http://home.comcast.net/~andrex/cygwin/lftp/setup.hint
Problem with the PATH and QMAKESPEC variables
Hello, I installed cygwin and had it installed before at another drive on the same cumputer. To avoid problems i removed every entry in the registry containing cygwin. after the new installation: 1. the PATH varible was not set correctly, i could avoid this with PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:$PATH 2. if i execute qmake /usr/lib/qt3/bin/qmake src.pro qmake complains that QMAKESPEC is not set correctly. Re: How to close a SSH connection from a BAT file
Andrew Schulman [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Brian Thanks for the suggestions and I was extreemly interested in trying your suggestion of running the SSH client as a service. However I have not been successful in setting it up. Although it does install as a service, when it is started it immediatly stops as unable to authenticate with the other server. If SSH is run manually there is no issue. Currently going through the logs with verbose on and trying to determine what the issue is. As Brian suggests, in order to run an ssh client as a service you have to give it enough information to authenticate unattended to the server. That means you have to give the client one of the following: - a plaintext password - an unencrypted (i.e. empty password) private key file - a running ssh-agent that holds the private key Whatever method you use to authenticate when you login manually, it will probably be simplest to give that same information to your ssh client when it runs unattended. All of the above methods carry potential security risks, but the risks can be minimized by, for example, using an account with shell access disabled on the remote host. For a full discussion of the unattended login problem, see chapter 11 of SSH, The Secure Shell: The Definitive Guide, 2nd ed., by R. Silverman and D. Barrett. A. Brian and Andrew thank you for the wealth of information. Brian hit it on the head in that the service account was being used and the keys weren't being found. I have fixed this and the service now start with the net start ssh or the cyrunsrv S ssh commands. The stop also appears to work in that the service stops, but what I am finding is the process continues to run (appears in the task manager list)and the next time that net start ssh is issued the following errors are in the log bind: Address already in use channel_setup_fwd_listener: cannot listen to port: 139 Could not request local forwarding. Cannot bind until the processes are killed also noted, is if I don't kill the process and just issue another net start ssh, then the number of processes will continue to increase. I hope there is a easy way around this as the solution originally provided offers minimal impact to an existing application. Using gcov with DLLs
How can I get gcov coverage to work when making DLLs? I compile with `-fprofile-arcs -ftest-coverage` and link with `-lgcov` yet I get undefined references to `___gcov_init' and `___gcov_merge_add'. I see that somebody else on the mailing lists had trouble doing this a while back but he was never answered. The PDF's in question are part of pump and dump spam via botnets so I see no legal or ethical reason to respect any expressed desire of the author as to how they may be used. I googled that XPDF didn't respect the no copy/no print flags in PDF's but the version that I got with Cygwin does and gives me an error message when I try to copy text that this file doesn't permit it. I seriously recommend that you consult with a qualified copyright attorney before you act on your first assumption. You are likely to find that there are risks you have not considered. Using Cygwin in a Multi-User Environment without Administrative A ccess
Hello, We are hoping to make Cygwin available to standard users of our multi-user Citrix server environment. One thing that we've noticed is that non-administrative users are prompted each time with the following prompt after running bash (even after running the commands): Your group is currently mkpasswd. This indicates that the /etc/passwd (and possibly /etc/group) files should be rebuilt. See the man pages for mkpasswd and mkgroup then, for example, run mkpasswd -l [-d] /etc/passwd mkgroup -l [-d] /etc/group Note that the -d switch is necessary for domain users. We have also noticed that the profile function isn't saving files in the C:\cygwin\home\Jason.Stott_adm under a non-privileged user the same way that it is for a user with administrative access. pdftotext.exe, part of the XPDF package, can be recompiled with a /* comment */ cut around the permission-to-copy/print code. Probably the other programs will also work but since the PDF files being spammed just a few lines of text and all I want to do is forward the text to the Securities and Exchange Commission and maybe the Chinese Consulate (they seem to be spamming Chinese stocks) that's enough for me. So if you have a LEGITIMATE reason to prevent the reader of a PDF file from copying/printing don't use this method because it is very easy to break - it depends on the co-operation of the reading program. RE: cygwin 1.5.20-1, spinning pdksh, 100% CPU
Quite possibly. There were changes to signal handling since 1.5.20, IIRC. Unless I'm mistaken, there's even a patch for a race condition in process handling code (though it's not in 1.5.24, I think). I just want to make sure I understand this - are you talking about a change that has been made since 1.5.24-2 was released, which is in the snapshot view now? Or did you mean a fix that was made sometime between 1.5.20-1 and 1.5.24-2. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Posting a sequence of steps that reliably reproduces the problem for you would be great (but not necessarily easy). We've seen the issue happen with the following scripts. Run a few instances of tst.sh. Occasionally, one will become hung - if you terminate the other tst.sh with Ctrl-C, you'll see that there's a subtest.sh shell that is using up all the CPU. mcshield.exe hangs update installation
Hi - I've got the version 1.5.23 of cygwin (downloaded from http://linux.rz.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/download/cygwin ) and I'm trying to update my installation. The older setup executable (setup.exe) that I have recommends that I download a new version if I have trouble installing -- which happens to be the case. The installer stops running after a few seconds and appears to hang (no page faults), while mcshield.exe takes 100% of the CPU. So I download the new setup.exe, and I try running it, but again mcshield.exe seizes the CPU :( I've searched the net and found what looks like a workaround (here http://www.cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2000-04/msg00657.html) but I would like to know if there is a better solution. Send a copy of unwanted or deceptive messages to [EMAIL PROTECTED] The FTC uses the unsolicited emails stored in this database to pursue law enforcement actions against people who send deceptive spam email. I thought you were going to forward it to the SEC? Now it's the FTC? In which case you should be forwarding the complete message, not pre-processing it - quite apart from anything else, you would reduce its forensic and evidential value to zero by doing so, eliminating any possibility of using it as the basis for a prosecution. regards Steve -- Steve Holden+1 571 484 6266 +1 800 494 3119 Holden Web LLC/Ltd http://www.holdenweb.com Skype: holdenweb http://del.icio.us/steve.holden --- Asciimercial -- Get on the web: Blog, lens and tag the Internet Many services currently offer free registration --- Thank You for Reading - -- Unsubscribe info: http://cygwin.com/ml/#unsubscribe-simple Problem reports: http://cygwin.com/problems.html Documentation: http://cygwin.com/docs.html FAQ: http://cygwin.com/faq/
