[Updated] maxima-5.35.1-4

2015-03-28 Thread Achim Gratz

This is a re-build with the new CLisp 2.49+.

Maxima - Computer Algebra System

Maxima is a system for the manipulation of symbolic and numerical
expressions, including differentiation, integration, Taylor series,
Laplace transforms, ordinary differential equations, systems of linear
equations, polynomials, sets, lists, vectors, matrices and
tensors. Maxima yields high precision numerical results by using exact
fractions, arbitrary-precision integers and variable-precision
floating-point numbers. Maxima can plot functions and data in two and
three dimensions.

Maxima is written in CommonLisp and based on the DOE Macsyma that was
developed at MIT.

Packaging
=

The installation has been split into several packages:

maxima- common components and documentation,
execution on pre-compiled clisp (memory image)
maxima-lang-* - localization for several languages
maxima-xmaxima- a Tcl/Tk based GUI

The maxima-exec-clisp package has been revoked due to problems with the
way CLisp creates the executable. Loading a memory image instead has
proved to make no difference in start-up time at least on a system with
a fast disk, so no disadvantage should result for the user.

Thank you Achim,

The symbolic link works from a Cygwin bash shell but not from a Windows
cmd or powershell. texinfo 4.7.* had a separate makeinfo.exe which was
used by the native Heimdal build environment to generate docs from
Microsoft nmake.exe.

4.7.* is still available for 32-bit Cygwin but is not available for
64-bit Cygwin.

At least I now know what the issue is.

Is this an oversight?

Any work arounds?

Could not reproduce this.

The Windows IO-controls IOCTL_ATA_PASS_THROUGH or SMART_RCV_DRIVE_DATA
possibly return some unexpected error code. This is typically a SATA
driver issue. The output of smartctl -r ioctl,2 -i /dev/sda should
provide more details.

Could you possibly repeat the above test this with the native
(non-Cygwin) Windows version of smartctl?

This is likely not a Cygwin specific issue. Smartctl does not use any
Cygwin functionality to do ATA/SCSI pass-through access. Cygwin and
native version of smartctl share the same code. We could continue the
discussion by private mail or on smartmontools-support mailing list if
desired.
