[ANNOUNCEMENT] sdparm 1.10-1

2016-08-16 Thread Yaakov Selkowitz
The following packages have been uploaded to the Cygwin distribution:

* sdparm-1.10-1

The sdparm utility accesses SCSI device parameters. When the SCSI device is
a disk, sdparm's role is similar to its namesake: the hdparm utility which
is primarily designed for ATA disks. More generally, sdparm can be used to
access parameters on any device that uses a SCSI command set. Apart from
SCSI disks, such devices include CD/DVD drives, SCSI and ATAPI tape drives
and SCSI enclosures.

The following packages have been uploaded to the Cygwin distribution:

* sg3_utils-1.42-1
* libsgutils2_2-1.42-1
* libsgutils2-devel-1.42-1

The sg3_utils package contains utilities that send SCSI commands to
devices. As well as devices on transports traditionally associated with
SCSI (e.g. Fibre Channel (FCP), Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and the SCSI
Parallel Interface(SPI)) many other devices use SCSI command sets. ATAPI
cd/dvd drives and SATA disks that connect via a translation layer or a
bridge device are examples of devices that use SCSI command sets.

The following packages have been uploaded to the Cygwin distribution:

* tigervnc-1.6.0-3
* tigervnc-server-1.6.0-3
* tigervnc-server-module-1.6.0-3

TigerVNC is a high-performance implementation of VNC, a client/server
application that allows users to launch and interact with graphical
applications on remote machines. TigerVNC provides the levels of
performance necessary to run 3D and video applications, and it attempts to
maintain a common look and feel and re-use components, where possible,
across the various platforms that it supports. TigerVNC also provides
extensions for advanced authentication methods and TLS encryption.

Please note that, like other Cygwin graphical applications, these packages
are X11-based. That means the client requires a running X server in order
to start, and the server will allow accessing X programs or even entire X
sessions remotely but not your Windows desktop.

This release has been rebuilt with xorg-server-1.18.4, and includes a patch
for better compatibility with Vino servers.

Nope!
The installer is downloaded from a TLS enabled web site.
The installer manifest contains a public key, so the build

There are detached GPG signatures for the installer programs

The setup.ini installer data files contain message digests

installing dask python (psutils problem)

2016-08-16 Thread Felipe M. Vieira
Ken,

thanks for the answer.

psutil is a dependency of a dependency. Thus not so easily disabled (I had
already looked at it).

In the end I ran py.test as instructed in the tutorial for dask but with
verbose. Then it 'core dumped' when dealing with h5py (verbose enabled me to
track the precise error).

I ran it after this command:

pip3 install --upgrade --force-reinstall h5py

And the installation and tests went smoothly.

Probably the package should require an upper version of h5py.

Everything seems normal now. The solution is here if anyone gets stuck in the
same error.

Best regards,

[ANNOUNCEMENT] TEST RELEASE: Cygwin 2.6.0-0.8

2016-08-16 Thread Corinna Vinschen
Hi folks,

I uploaded a new Cygwin test release 2.6.0-0.8.

The new locale stuff has been folded into the master branch. This
version adds the GNU-specific locale functions for converting strings to
numbers

...AND...

...hopefully...

fixes the problem introduced with 2.6.0-0.7, see
https://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2016-08/msg00250.html and
https://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2016-08/msg00252.html

===

The 2.6.0 release is going to introducing the locale_t datatype, as well
as all functions related to locale_t locales and per-thread locales per
POSIX-1.2008.

So, rather than just providing a single, per-process locale, you can now
create new locales ("newlocale") and set it as locale for the current
thread ("uselocale") or use it directly with one of the new functions
taking a locale_t as parameter (i.e. isalpha_l).

The full list of new interfaces is:

  newlocale, freelocale, duplocale, uselocale

  isalnum_l, isalpha_l, isascii_l, isblank_l, iscntrl_l, isdigit_l,
  isgraph_l, islower_l, isprint_l, ispunct_l, isspace_l, isupper_l,
  iswalnum_l, iswalpha_l, iswblank_l, iswcntrl_l, iswctype_l,
  iswdigit_l, iswgraph_l, iswlower_l, iswprint_l, iswpunct_l,
  iswspace_l, iswupper_l, iswxdigit_l, isxdigit_l

  toascii_l, tolower_l, toupper_l, towctrans_l, towlower_l, towupper_l,
  wctrans_l, wctype_l

  strcasecmp_l, strcoll_l, strncasecmp_l, strxfrm_l

  wcscasecmp_l, wcscoll_l, wcstrncasecmp_l, wcstrxfrm_l

  strfmon_l, strftime_l

  strtol_l, stroll_l, strtoul_l, strtoull_l
  strtod_l, strtofl, strtold_l

  wcstol_l, wcsoll_l, wcstoul_l, wcstoull_l
  wcstod_l, wcstofl, wcstold_l

===

Since this is brand-new code, this code *will* have bugs.

It would be very helpful if interested developers and Cygwin package
maintainers could give this new stuff some good testing.

Other than that:

===

What changed:
-

- Drop support for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003/2003 R2.

- Drop support for very old SUNWNFS filesystem.

- Further header file improvements in terms of feature test macros.

- Raise number of supported partitions per disk (for raw access) to 63.
  Addresses: https://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2016-06/msg00136.html

- Add a workaround for filesystems not supporting the FileAllInformation
  info class.
  Addresses: https://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2016-07/msg00350.html

- "nobody" account support for WinFSP.

Good to know, thank you. Give me a bit and I'll come up with a Cygwin
DLL for testing.

Both seem to work. I guess what you are proposing makes sense - the AzureAD
domain is like a single domain with multiple tenants (yeah, I don't really know

The brokenness was actually in the isXXX_l macros and functions.
strtol() and friends now call isspace_l() under the hood, and this
completely ignored the most common use-case... when no per-thread
locale has been established.

I'll build a new testrelease soon.

The 64-bit version doesn't work on my Windows 10 64-bit system,
updated to Anniversary edition (Version 1607, OS Build 14393.51).
Even something as simple as "uname" in a Windows Command prompt causes
100% CPU and never does anything. I wish I had something more
specific to tell you. cygcheck won't run, so I can't attach
anything.

I had to revert to 2.5.2. There was no option to roll back to
2.6.0-0.6 (other than to restore the file from my local backup).

Autorebase errors; mintty won't launch

2016-08-16 Thread Emily Jackson
I installed the latest test version of Cygwin, and afterward autorebase
hung for several minutes until I cancelled it. I ran setup.exe again and
got these errors:

Package: 0/Perpetual
0p_000_autorebase.dash exit code 256
0p_update-info-dir.dash exit code 256
Package: z/Perpetual
zp_desktop-file-utils.sh exit code 256

zp_glib2.0.sh exit code 256
zp_hicolor-icon-theme.sh exit code 256
zp_shared-mime-info.sh exit code 256

I also can't launch mintty or the X server. I have tried rebooting my
PC, but that didn't help. [I am running Windows 10 64-bit.]

[ANNOUNCEMENT] TEST RELEASE: Cygwin 2.6.0-0.7

2016-08-16 Thread Corinna Vinschen
Hi folks,

I uploaded a new Cygwin test release 2.6.0-0.7.

The new locale stuff has been folded into the master branch. This
version adds the GNU-specific locale functions for converting strings to
numbers.

===

The 2.6.0 release is going to introducing the locale_t datatype, as well
as all functions related to locale_t locales and per-thread locales per
POSIX-1.2008.

So, rather than just providing a single, per-process locale, you can now
create new locales ("newlocale") and set it as locale for the current
thread ("uselocale") or use it directly with one of the new functions
taking a locale_t as parameter (i.e. isalpha_l).

The full list of new interfaces is:

  newlocale, freelocale, duplocale, uselocale

  isalnum_l, isalpha_l, isascii_l, isblank_l, iscntrl_l, isdigit_l,
  isgraph_l, islower_l, isprint_l, ispunct_l, isspace_l, isupper_l,
  iswalnum_l, iswalpha_l, iswblank_l, iswcntrl_l, iswctype_l,
  iswdigit_l, iswgraph_l, iswlower_l, iswprint_l, iswpunct_l,
  iswspace_l, iswupper_l, iswxdigit_l, isxdigit_l

  toascii_l, tolower_l, toupper_l, towctrans_l, towlower_l, towupper_l,
  wctrans_l, wctype_l

  strcasecmp_l, strcoll_l, strncasecmp_l, strxfrm_l

  wcscasecmp_l, wcscoll_l, wcstrncasecmp_l, wcstrxfrm_l

  strfmon_l, strftime_l

  strtol_l, stroll_l, strtoul_l, strtoull_l
  strtod_l, strtofl, strtold_l

  wcstol_l, wcsoll_l, wcstoul_l, wcstoull_l
  wcstod_l, wcstofl, wcstold_l

===

Since this is brand-new code, this code *will* have bugs.

It would be very helpful if interested developers and Cygwin package
maintainers could give this new stuff some good testing.

Other than that:

===

What changed:
-

- Drop support for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003/2003 R2.

- Drop support for very old SUNWNFS filesystem.

- Further header file improvements in terms of feature test macros.

- Raise number of supported partitions per disk (for raw access) to 63.

  This does not look like a local user account. Is CHI your AD domain
  or your local machine name?

The above occurs if a Windows system call fails, i. e. LookupAccountSid
probably returns with an error code outlining that it can't contact the
DC.

If you want to use your AD username even when disconnected from the
DC, it really makes sense to generate an /etc/passwd entry for your
user account, as well as /etc/group entries for the AD groups you're
member in.

To create these entries you can use the mkpasswd/mkgroup tools or,
alternatively, the getent tool. Either way, obviously you must be
connected to your DC when doing so.

Then, if you're disconnected, Cygwin can easily fetch this information
from the local files.

This is as bad as I feared. Apart from the username and the Windows
home dir, there are no other information which could be fetched by
the usual means. Quite apart from the fact that there are no means to
*store* this information somewhere, other than creating an explicit
/etc/passwd and matching /etc/group entry.

But, anyway, I prepared some code for the Cygwin DLL to handle these
accounts even if no /etc/passwd and /etc/group entries are present. It
still needs some work, though, and for that I'd ask you to perform a
last test.

I attached a short testcase. We know that LookupAccountSid from the
user SID in the user token returns a name (RussellMora) and a domain
(AzureAD). However, the open question is if the reverse operation
LookupAccountName works as desired when feeding it the domain name
and the user name. Actually, for completeness the testcase tries it
two ways: Once only with the username, once with dom\username.

The reason for testing this is, if the reverse lookup works with only
the name we *could* go ahead and omit the domain from the Cygwin
username. I'm not yet sure if that's feasible, but it's certainly worth
a try.

Thanks,
Corinna

Re: [ANNOUNCEMENT] Updated: mingw64-*-gcc-5.4.0-2 (x86/x86_64)

2016-08-16 Thread Tony Kelman

I'm regretting only testing on 64 bit in my earlier message. I do see a
segfault now when I build Julia with i686-w64-mingw32-gcc 5.4.0-2, that
did not occur with 4.9.2-2. Could 4.9.2-2 be reinstated as prev? And/or
could packaging of GCC 6 be done with a faster turnaround time? Here are
the repro steps for compiling to 32 bit (with apologies for how long it'll
take, it's mostly miscompilation of LLVM causing the problem):

# check build prereqs
curl --version
patch --version
python --version
g++ --version
m4 --version
cmake --version
7z -h
i686-w64-mingw32-gcc --version
i686-w64-mingw32-g++ --version
i686-w64-mingw32-gfortran --version
# end of build prereq checks
git clone https://github.com/JuliaLang/julia -b release-0.5
cd julia
echo 'XC_HOST = i686-w64-mingw32' > Make.user
make -j8 test

At the end of this, roughly an hour later, I see

JULIA usr/lib/julia/sys.o

Please submit a bug report with steps to reproduce this fault, and any error
messages that follow (in their entirety). Thanks.

instead of finishing building and executing the tests as expected.
