 ^PATH' under cmd?

Yup. I removed quotes from the first entry and it works now. Thanks.

tar/gzip outside of bash problem

2007-02-23 Thread Marko Bozikovic
Hi all,

I've just come across a strange problem. When I try to unpack a tar.gz archive
in cmd.exe, I get an error:

tar (child): gzip: Cannot exec: No such file or directory
tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

The command line I use is:
tar zxvf archive.tar.gz

When running the same command from bash, it works ok.

I have found this mail:
http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2006-08/msg00038.html

but it's not applicable to my case, since I have no empty entries in the PATH.

I have updated my packages (including tar and gzip), and the problem persists.
Attached is a cygcheck.out after the update.

Thank you,

watch.exe hangs when started from cmd.exe

2006-10-20 Thread Marko Bozikovic
Hi all,

I have a strange problem... watch.exe hangs when I start it from cmd.exe, but
works fine when started from bash.

When I start watch from cmd.exe (e.g. 'watch ls'), I see two instances of
watch.exe and one instance of sh.exe. sh.exe takes 100% CPU.

Command line for sh.exe looks ok: C:\cygwin\bin\sh.exe -c ls.

Starting sh.exe on its own from cmd.exe works ok.

Running 'C:\cygwin\bin\sh.exe -c ls' from cmd.exe works ok.

cygwin's watch.exe is the only watch.exe I have on the system.

Thank you,

I'm not talking about the connection time. I mean that when logged onto the
linux box using an xterm, that the time between typing a letter and viewing
the response is of the order of 1-2 seconds.

Are you running any BitTorrent software on the Windows box? I noticed some
major network slowdowns if my uTorrent client is running.

As the author of Console, I'd like to know how does rxvt handle long lines
when copying. I might be able to improve Console :-)

Hi everyone. I just installed cygwin on WinXP and I'm wondering if there

It's not a DOS prompt, but Windows' wonderful console window :-) Windows has
two basic types of programs: 'console' and 'GUI'. Console processes are run
inside a console window, and GUI programs (usually) create their own windows.

Unfortunately, Windows' console is braindead compared to Linux terminals. In a
regular console window, you can click on the icon (or press ALT+SPACE) to
bring up the menu. 'Edit' submenu has mark/copy/paste operations.

I'm not sure, but I think Cygwin's rxvt is better. You could also try running
xterm (you'll have to install Cygwin/X)

You could also try my project: Console. It's a free console front-end with
some nice eye candy (multiple tabs, custom fonts, alpha transparency, text
editor-like select, copy, paste, etc). It can run any shell you like (cmd.exe,
4NT, bash)

It's hosted on SourceForge, try the latest v2 beta (not demo!)

CVSNT and cvs

2006-06-20 Thread Marko Bozikovic
Hi all,

I have a problem with logging in to remote CVSNT server using cygwin cvs.

I'm using CVSNT 2.5.03.2260 on Windows and Cygwin cvs 1.11.17. CVS repository
is in C:\cvsrepo, with name /cvsrepo.

I'm trying to connect with:

cvs -d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsrepo login

When I enter a valid password, I get follwing errors:
cvs login: CVSROOT requires a path spec:
cvs login: :(gserver|kserver|pserver):[[user][:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:[port]]/path
cvs login: [:(ext|server):[EMAIL PROTECTED]:]/path
cvs login: warning: skipping invalid entry in password file at line 4

If I enter an invalid password, I get (expected) error:
cvs login: authorization failed: server cvs rejected access to /cvsrepo for
user bozho

I've searched cygwin list archives, as well as CVSNT FAQs and tutorials and
searched the google and I have found different suggestions on how to specify
repository path (/c//cvsrepo, /c:/cvsrepo, etc), but none of them works (I get
'no such repository' error)

Running CVSNT's cvs on the server (with the above parameters) works ok.

Does anyone know how to make cvs play nice with CVSNT server on Windows?

Thank you,
