Hi, Steve,

Is there _anything_ that can be done about the cursor shape in rxvt? That
_od-awful block cursor that obscures the character lying under it drives me
nuts. Past messages on this List seemed to indicate in my reading, that
this wasn't reconfigurable -- that we are stuck with it. That alone would
make me not be infavor of rxvt becoming the default Cygwin terminal --even
tho I am using Win98 (part of the time).

If there is nothing that can be done at run time, can you suggest a place
in the src code for me to start looking at, to change it at build time?

  Thanks,
Soren A

P.S. In case it isn't obvious to someone, what I would want to see instead
of the block cursor is a flashing underscore-bar (or even a static bar)
like in the native Win32 console.

Yes, it's really Sören, not Soren.

I have the following lines in my ~/.Xdefaults:

Rxvt*cursorColor: orange
Rxvt*cursorColor2: blue

This makes the cursor easy to spot, and also keeps the character under
the cursor fairly readable.
You can tune these colors to your own preference, of course.

I don't have the latest package, but it has never obscured the
character for me.

I do, and it's the same as it's always been for me: block inverse, not
obscuring in any way. Soren, do you have whacked-out colors set up or a goofy
PS1 or something? I've got this:

PS1=$'\\[\\033]0;\\w\\007\n\\033[32m\\]\\u@\\h \\[\\033[33m\\w\\033[0m\\]\n$ '

and that gives me

MyLogin@MyComputerName ~
$ _

where MyLogin@MyComputerName is green, ~ is a sickly yellow, $ is black,
and the _ is really a block cursor that's black and inverses the character
under it. Screen background is white. Works like a charm, and I believe it's
the Cygwin-installed default.

Shift-KP- and Shift-KP+ no longer change the font size in Windows mode.
The hotkeys work fine in X-Window mode.

Hi,
rxvt is a terminal program that can be used instead of the windows
command shell. It does not require an X server.

This release fixes some multibyte character issues and is built with
--enable-languages, thanks to a series of patches from Cole Lin.
It also re-enables xpm support, thanks to a heads-up from Frank-Michael.

-Installation Instructions-
To update your installation, click on the Install Cygwin now link on
the http://cygwin.com/ web page. This downloads setup.exe to your
system. Then, run setup and answer all of the questions.

To update your installation, click on the Install Cygwin now link on

Note that we do not allow downloads from sources.redhat.com (aka
cygwin.com) due to bandwidth limitations. This means that you will need

to find a mirror which has this update.

In the US, ftp://mirrors.rcn.net/mirrors/sources.redhat.com/cygwin/
is a reliable high bandwidth connection.

In Germany,
ftp://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/pc/gnuwin32/cygwin/mirrors/cygnus/ is
usually pretty good.

In the UK,
http://programming.ccp14.ac.uk/ftp-mirror/programming/cygwin/pub/cygwin/

is usually up-to-date within 48 hours.

If one of the above doesn't have the latest version of this package then

you can either wait for the site to be updated or find another mirror.

If you want to make a point or ask a question, the Cygwin mailing list
is the appropriate place.
