2015-09-20 Thread David Rothenberger

xfig 3.2.5c crashes on Cygwin/X

2015-09-20 Thread Marcelo Ribeiro
The xfig package crashes when I try to open or save files, producing the message

xfig3.2.5c: SIGSEGV signal trapped
xfig: Figure is empty or not modified - exiting without saving.

This happens in both 32 and 64 bits. I reinstalled the package, but
the problem remains. It does no seem to have a solution in the forum.

I remembered using the live site for SysInternals, giving the interesting
result:

$ cygstart '\\live.sysinternals.com\tools\' # works - opens site in
Windows Explorer
$ cygpath '\\live.sysinternals.com\tools\'
//live.sysinternals.com/tools/
$ ls //live.sysinternals.com/tools/  # works - list contents
About_This_Site.txt  ctrl2cap.amd.sys*  Eula.txt
...
$ ls $(cygpath '\\live.sysinternals.com\tools\') # works - list contents
About_This_Site.txt  ctrl2cap.amd.sys*  Eula.txt
...
$ ls `cygpath '\\live.sysinternals.com\tools\'`  # fails - should be same as
above 2
ls: cannot access /cygdrive/c/live.sysinternals.com/tools/: No such file or
directory

Windows Explorer drive mappings are not visible from cmd or mintty/bash
windows, but "net use x: \\live.sysinternals.com\tools" mappings are visible
from separate cmd and mintty/bash windows as drive X: or /cygdrive/x, but
x:\ is not accessible from Windows Explorer.
It does not seem to matter whether the drive mapping is made persistent from
either the console or Windows Explorer - it is only visible from whichever
type of window interface was used to make the mapping.
I have not tested making the mapping persistent, logging out and back in, to
see if it makes any difference to visibility: it shouldn't, but with
Windows...who knows?

Testing was on a standalone non-domain W7 desktop with:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
CYGWIN_NT-6.1 ... 2.2.1(0.289/5/3) 2015-08-20 11:42 x86_64 Cygwin

1. Do you plan to send your patch upstream? I had some correspondence
with the author last year in which he said he would welcome a patch to
make luajit build on 64-bit Cygwin.

Unfortunately, upstreaming takes time (particularly when dealing with
the many misconceptions people have about Cygwin) so I've admittedly
been lax in that regard.

I have to send the patch to upstream TeX Live anyway, so I could just
copy the luajit author.

I did this, and he just applied the patch (with credit to you) as git
commit 076d625.

[Posting to Cygwin list. Please keep discussion there.]

I did apply the patch from Fedora, but it didn't seem to help.

I just rebuilt subversion-1.9.1 using a locally-built version of
swig-3.0.7 (distro has 3.0.5) and that seems to solve the problem. I'll
rebuild subversion-1.9.1 and subversion-1.8.14 using swig-3.0.7 and
upload them shortly.
