questions on using cygport, first steps
Hello, I am currently trying to do some first steps in writing an own cygport file in order to make a package for cygwin. Unfortunately, I did not come very far. :( So here is my question: Is there anything I need to to between creating the cygport file and executing the first cygport command? I copied the sample cygport file into the source folder (with only changes to Name, Version, Summary, Description, etc.) and tried to run: ren@Thinktank ~/Sources $ cygport Singular-4-0-0.cygport compile upon which I got the error message: Compiling Singular-4.0.0-1 /usr/share/cygport/lib/syntax.cygpart: Zeile 136: /home/ren/Sources/Singular-4.0.0-1/log/Singular-4.0.0-1-compile.log: No such file or directory Apparently cygport expects there to be some files which aren't there, hence my first question. best regards, Yue. P.S.: This probably won't be my only question, as I am trying to learn to use cygport, I hope this is the official channel to send my questions to.

It depends if your application compiles directly onto cygwin, and the dependencies it has. If you want to try something easy, you can try doing the steps for the pv application, which is linux native and I've helped porting it to Cygwin. Download the files from here (latest version) http://cygwin.mirrors.hoobly.com/x86/release/pv/ Then go to the README file and follow the steps listed in the section 'Package creation (for the first time)'. You have a copy here: http://pastebin.com/A78dRV1s

On 9/11/2013 10:01, Yue Ren wrote: $ cygport Singular-4-0-0.cygport compile Why did you start with 'compile'? I mean, what documentation did you read that lead you to believe that's the correct starting point? (I'm assuming you *did* RTFM: /usr/share/doc/cygport/manual.html.) The correct starting point is: $ cygport Singular-4-0-0.cygport all The 'all' command runs download, prep, compile, install, package, and finish, in that order. (Maybe test, too.) You will fail at 'download' if SRC_URI isn't set correctly. It's not terribly coherent with regard to your perspective, but this answer I wrote on SO should at least get you oriented a bit better: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11619415/#11678875

FYI, the newly uploaded cygport-0.14.0-1 is in .tar.xz format, and appears correctly in cygwin.com/packages and setup.ini. Yaakov
Re: [ITP] asa 1.1
Base is definitely not the right category. Conversion for output by Fortran programs seems like a pretty small target audience. This doesn't seem to be available in at least two popular linux distributions so you'll need to get votes. While I agree that it's of limited value, I thought the fact that it's defined by POSIX might be of some relevance. At this point, I probably should not say that I was also going to offer to package SCCS. :) Cheers, Bogdan

So .xz files should now be ok. If it isn't I'll be able to fix that quickly. I believe that setup.exe should also properly handle .xz files so I'd be interested in seeing if everything behaves correctly if you upload a .xz file now. FYI, the newly uploaded cygport-0.14.0-1 is in .tar.xz format, and appears correctly in cygwin.com/packages and setup.ini. Cool. Thanks for verifying. cgf

Adjusted in later posts (bug in script dind't consider 64bit URLs) You fixed --cut-dirs, but the packages' parent directory is still 64 instead of the package name, as they need to be. The 32/64-bit designation needs to be higher up (e.g. ~jaalto/tmp/cygwin64/wcd or ~jaalto/tmp/cygwin/64/wcd, etc.). Yaakov

As he hasn't been heard from in two years, sounds like a good plan; uploaded. Should this be added to doxygen's requires:? He is subscribed to the digest version of this mailing list though. I'll leave that one to your expert judgement really. mscgen isn't required by doxygen all the time; it's only invoked if you use the \msc or \mscfile commands in your mark-up. It depends whether you see a minimal install as important, or would sooner install more packages but get fewer surprises. If you do add mscgen to doxygen's 'requires' line then please could you consider bringing GraphViz over from Ports - doxygen can use 'dot' in the same way, so whatever we decide for mscgen should also apply to GraphViz. Thanks for uploading, Dave.
