Issue with the installation of Cygwin/X

2010-01-06 Thread akramuddin . x . mohammed
Hi,
I am running into an issue when trying to install Cygwin/X. I am
installing from http://x.cygwin.com/
When the setup.exe is run, after it shows the screen where we choose a
site from a list, no matter what download site I choose, it throws this
little pop-up, saying Warning: The current ini file is from a newer
version of setup.exe. If you have any trouble installing, please download
a fresh version from http://www.cygwin.com/setup.exe;
Please help me.

Thanks,
Akramuddin Mohammed

The message is not lying. You need to download the latest setup.exe
from http://cygwin.com/setup.exe.

If you've done that already then try clearing your browser cache and
proxy cache, if any.

startxwin.exe without lingering DOS window

2010-01-06 Thread Raul Acevedo

How do you run startxwin.exe so that it doesn't leave a lingering MS-DOS
window after it starts the programs in ~/.startwinrc?

Are there plans to update http://x.cygwin.com/docs/ug/using.html so people
like me don't waste a few hours finding out that startxwin.bat has been
replaced by startxwin.exe and that it is documented in its man page?

Thanks,

Raul Acevedo

What is replacement for the -kb Xwin startup parameter

2010-01-06 Thread Bennett, Tony
I a using Xwin to connect to an AIX system using XDMCP.

This was working fine on an old version of Xwin,
As long as I used the -kb command line argument
(there was an old post in the FAQ, suggesting that parameter
As the workaround for AIX not handling keyboard extensions).

I just downloaded 1.7.3.0 on another Win-XP system, and discovered
That -kb is no longer supported. Without that argument, I am able
To successfully connect using XDMCP, but after opening my 2nd
Xterm, the window freezes up... neither mouse or keyboard
Seems to function with it (which was the same symptom I had on
The old version prior to adding the -kb startup parm.

Suggestions are welcome.
