Keyboard does not work with JDS 3.0 (Gnome @ Solaris 10)
Hello! I'm using XWin 6.8.99.901-4 to connect to a Solaris 10 system from my Windows 2000 SP4 PC. I connect to it by running: Xwin :0 -xkblayout ch -clipboard -screen 0 1261x941 -fp tcp/winds06.win.ch.da.rtr:7100 -query winds06.win.ch.da.rtr -once This will give me the XDM login screen of Solaris 10. There I select Java Desktop System, Release 3 (JDS, ie. Gnome). After logging in, I get the following error message: http://img135.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=30151_Error_when_starting_JDS_Gnome_on_Solaris_10_122_177lo.jpeg Error activating XKB configuration. I also get the error, when I start Xwin locally (Xwin :0 -xkblayout ch -clipboard -screen 0 1024x768) and then SSH connect to the box and start gnome-settings-daemon. When I use Exceed (installed on a different PC), I do NOT get this XKB error. Any idea what might be causing this problem? X server freezes after connecting to JDS (Gnome) on Solaris 10
Hello! I've got yet another problem with Cygwin/X @ Win2k SP4, connecting to a Solaris 10 machine running JDS 3.0 (Gnome). As before, I use the following command line to fire up Xwin and connect to XDM: Xwin :0 -xkblayout ch -clipboard -screen 0 1261x941 -fp tcp/winds06.win.ch.da.rtr:7100 -query winds06.win.ch.da.rtr -once (It's just one line, of course... *g*) More or less shortly after having logged on to JDS/S10, the Cygwin X window freezes. Ie. I cannot move any windows in it anymore and when I move a MS Windows window in front of the Cygwin window, the Cygwin window stays completely white (ie. it does not refresh anymore). Please have a look at http://img162.imagevenue.com/view.php?image=31074_Cygwin_X,_weisses_Fenster,_keine_Reaktion_122_61lo.jpg (or http://kuerzer.de/M7LjjCfJX for a shorter URL) and notice, how the window in the background (the Cygwin window) is all white... When I wait like 5 to 10 minutes, the Cygwin window refreshes again. But I still cannot move anything in it. When I use CDE 1.6 (on the system Solaris 10 box) or when I use Exceed (from a different PC client), I don't have any problems what so ever. I also don't have any problems with XKB (see thread Keyboard does not work with JDS 3.0 (Gnome @ Solaris 10)). What might be causing these problems and what can I do to solve these issues? [ANNOUNCEMENT] XHC - X-Host Chooser
Hello! I'd like to announce the public availability of my program X-Host Chooser (or short: xhc) at http://xhc.berlios.de/. xhc is a tool which allows to easily call XWin.exe from Cygwin/XFree. With this tool, it's very easy to connect to a remote machine, especially if all you need is a way to connect to remote hosts via XDMCP. The program is released under the GPL. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me! Feature suggestions and bug reports are also welcome ;) Homepage: http://xhc.berlios.de/ Download: http://tinyurl.com/7ivw Hope you'll like the program, Alexander Skwar -- How to quote: http://learn.to/quote (german) http://quote.6x.to (english) Uptime: 6 days 21 hours 39 minutes
How has rxvt-2.7.9-4 been packaged?
Hello. I'm now successfully running XFree86 4.3.0 - however, because of this, I need to recompile some packages, as they simply die because library names have changed. One of these packages is rxvt. With WindowMaker, I had good luck downloading the src package with the setup program. I was then able to run /usr/src/WindowMaker-0.80.0-2.sh all to get a tar.bz2 file which I could install. However, downloading rxvt-2.7.9-4-src results in a /usr/src/rxvt directory. How would I build something installable from this? Just the usual ./configure make make install or did you apply any patches/configure options when packaging the rxvt-2.7.9-4.tar.bz2 for cygwin? Cannot recompile X
Hi. I tried to recompil X 4.2.0. So I downloaded X420src-1.tgz, -2 and -3 from ftp://ftp.xfree86.org/pub/XFree86/4.2.0/source/ and unpacked it in ~/X-Sources. Next I created a dir ~/X-Sources/build/std, cd'd to this directory and did lndir ../../xc, as described in the Cygwin/XFree86 Contributor's Guide on http://xfree86.cygwin.com/docs/cg/cygwin-xfree-cg.html. I then ran make World World.log 21 make install install.log 21 make install.man install.man.log 21. After quite some time, everything was done. Besides quite a lot of command line:1:1: warning: __STDC__ redefined messages, there were no errors (I searched the World.log for error). Now, when I start startx on the Cygwin bash prompt, I get a Windows error message box: Die Anwendung konnte nicht richtig initialisiert werden (0xc022). Debug build of X doesn't seem to load XF86Config
Hi. As described in the first posting of Cannot recompile X, I also compiled a debug build of X. For this, I ran ./config/util/makeg.sh World. When I now run startx to start the debug build of X, it seems to ignore my /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. I think so, because if it would load /etc/X11/XF86Config-4, it would read the FontPath entries I specified there. Now, both with and without XF86Config, I get the same number of fonts (xlsfonts | wc -l). In the build provided by cygwin, there's a difference if XF86Config-4 is present. I also tried renaming the file to /etc/X11/XF86Config. Did I miss something when compiling X? Re: xkbcomp.exe segfaults
Hello Alexander! Zitat von Alexander Gottwald [EMAIL PROTECTED]: I've took a look on the trace, but could not find anything that seemed Thanks. to be the cause for the crash. The last action was close() on /etc/X11/xkb/keycodes/xfree86, so I'd suggest installing all files in /etc/X11/xkb again. I've deleted C:\cygwin and installed XFree-base and all of its dependencies again from the Internet. Same result; xkb still crashs. So I don't think it's the fault of xkb.exe but something's broken on my side - however I do not know what it might be. Zitat von Harold L Hunt [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Harold, Alexander, It sounds like your problems are probably due to a sector of your network using only internal IP addresses (10.x.x.x, 192.168.x.x) that are not being passed through a Network Address Translation system when they are routed to the sector of your network with valid external IP addresses. No, I doubt that this is the case. I've just installed cygwin on another PC running Windows NT (instead of XP on my PC) and this PC is connected to the same switch as I am. The NT PC is also in the same network segment. From this PC, I can do XWin -query host fine. On my PC, I've got to do XWin -query host -from me (insert IPs there). In other words, your IP address is being lost by the router for some reason, while the packet is not being dropped for some other reason. Thus your HP-UX machine sees a packet that came from 0.0.0.0 instead of, say, 10.0.0.100. Hmm, but why does the router interfere on such a low level? I highly doubt that a router is involved in my troubles - see above (BTW: I didn't write this in my first mail, because I just now found this out). 1) Are you using the same network adapter on both network segments. That is, you aren't using a wireless adpater on one segment and a wired adapter on another segment, are you? What's the answer? Yes or no? ;) Well, I'm using the same NIC. In fact, my PC is a laptop and thus I've got close to no problems taking the PC to the other network segment. 2) Are you using DHCP or not using DHCP on both networks? That is, does one segment use DHCP but the other does not? I'm using DHCP on both net segments. 3) Can you do a ``traceroute'' to the HP-UX workstations from the network segment that does not work with XDMCP? It would be nice to get some sort of confirmation that you can at least get packets back from the HP-UX workstations. Yes, I can. Back and forth - ie. I can traceroute to the HP-UX workstation from my Windows PC, and I can tracerotue to the Windows PC from my HP-UX workstation. From HP-UX to Windows: traceroute to 204.104.237.188(204.104.237.188), 30 hops max, 20 byte packets 1 rons (192.85.103.120) 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 2 D8RJRJ0J (204.104.237.188) 3 ms 1 ms 1 ms From Windows to HP-UX: [c:\programme\jedit 4.1pre6]tracert tc34 Routenverfolgung zu tc34 [204.104.236.110] über maximal 30 Abschnitte: 11 ms1 ms1 ms 192.85.103.190 2 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms tc34 [204.104.236.110] Ablaufverfolgung beendet. That's from the offending network segment. When I'm in the segment where XWin.exe -query host also works on my Windows XP PC, I'm farther away (as far as network hops are concerned). With those answers, we may be better able to help you. Although I'm now able to connect - a colleague of mine who's sitting right behind me (and is connected to the same hub) is still having problems. And also I would like to be able to connect without -from. Alexander, Zitat von Alexander Gottwald [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Have you tried the -from yourhost parameter? The 0.0.0.0 seems like Xwin can't find the correct interface and uses an uncofigured one (maybe dialup) No, I haven't tried -from. I just now did, and with -from, I can connect. Do I understand you right? It's the fault of XWin that it sends the 0.0.0.0 IP? Hmm... The 1st Ethernetadapter LAN-Verbindung is the built-in NIC in my notebook. The 2nd Ethernetadapter LAN-Verbindung 2 is the one from my docking station. That might also explain, why the Windows NT PC is able to connect w/o -from. It's a normal desktop PC and has got only one NIC. Thanks! Re: Can't connect with XDMCP - Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key
Harold L Hunt II wrote: Alexander [Skwar], Wait, let me get this straight. You DO have two network cards, one in the notebook and one in the docking station, right? Now, are you sure Correct. that you are using the same network card on both network segments? That Thinking about it - yes, I'm sure that I did NOT use the same NIC on both segments. When it worked out of the box, I used the builtin NIC, which was the only one available at this time. When I've got to use -from, I'm using the docking stations NIC, which is NIC #2. never using the docking station's network card? If that is the case, then I suspect that you problem is when you are plugged into the docking station and XWin.exe thinks that it should use the docking station's NIC, which does not have an IP address (thus the 0.0.0.0). Almost. XWin.exe doesn't seem to think ;) To me, it looks like XWin.exe always uses the IP of the first NIC, even if it doesn't have an IP. The easiest solution would be to use the -from parameter. Guess so. 1) Plug into the network at the docking station via the docking station's NIC. XWin.exe wants to use that NIC by default, so XWin.exe will work correctly without the -from parameter (probably). Nope. Docking stations NIC is #2, and XWin seems to take #1 - always. 2) Disable the docking station's NIC in your Windows hardware configuration. This will hopefully case XWin.exe to not even see the docking station's NIC as an option. Well, because of great design, I wouldn't be able to use any NIC at all in that case. So that's not an option. 3) Change the binding order or NIC preference (if there even is such a thing) in your Windows hardware configuration. I am going out on a limb here... I do not remember if this can be done. Will have a look. Thanks. 4) Stop using your docking station. Uhmm - guess not ;) 5) See if Alexander Gottwald has any ideas to save the day :) Thx! However, what about the colleague of mine? He's unable to connect even with -from. As I said, he was connected to the same network segment and hub, when I wrote the first message. He's using the same type of notebook I'm using. And finally, he's trying to connect to the same HP-UX workstation I'm trying to connect to (to be on the safe side, we did not try to connect to it at the same time. I doubt that this can cause problems - but we didn't want to try). And it's possible to traceroute to and from his laptop. Thanks again, Alexander
Getting AltGr on German keyboard to work
Hello! I'm trying to get the AltGr key on my Dell Precision m50 keyboard to work with a German keyboard layout. The notebook is running Windows XP SP 1 and latest cygwin. The plain keys like y and z work fine. However, umlauts like ä, ö and ü don't get displayed at all. And also the AltGr key (for characters like | or @) doesn't seem to work at all. Pressing AltGr shows me these signals when running xev: KeyPress event, serial 26, synthetic NO, window 0x241, root 0x36, subw 0x0, time 2220092, (58,87), root:(1242,107), state 0x10, keycode 37 (keysym 0xffe3, Control_L), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 characters: KeyPress event, serial 26, synthetic NO, window 0x241, root 0x36, subw 0x0, time 2220092, (58,87), root:(1242,107), state 0x14, keycode 113 (keysym 0xff7e, Mode_switch), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 characters: KeyRelease event, serial 26, synthetic NO, window 0x241, root 0x36, subw 0x0, time 2220112, (58,87), root:(1242,107), state 0x2014, keycode 37 (keysym 0xffe3, Control_L), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 characters: KeyRelease event, serial 26, synthetic NO, window 0x241, root 0x36, subw 0x0, time 2220112, (58,87), root:(1242,107), state 0x2010, keycode 113 (keysym 0xff7e, Mode_switch), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 characters: When I press Alt Gr on my Linux desktop, I just get the Mode_switch keysyms. When I press ö, xev shows that it get's the odiaresis keysym just fine and in the characters line it shows the ö. What do I have to do, to get the Alt Gr key to work (most important) and also the umlauts? I'd really like to get a fix on the server side, because (once setup) I'll connect to quite a number of different hosts running all sorts of OS, like HP-UX 11.00, Solaris and Linux. I don't know if all of these machines have xmodmap installed.
