Those start menu links should have been created when the xinit package is installed, by the /etc/postinstall/xinit.sh script. This looks like the culprit: mkshortcut: Saving "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\C:\cygwin\Cygwin-X\XWin Server.lnk" failed; does the target directory exist? Missing $(basename ...)? I tried peeking inside the .sh files but they're greek to me. X won't start anymore
