It's not every day that I see two of my very most favorite SF novels
mentioned side by side.  Like wow.

In addition to the tools mentioned above, we need a strategy to convert
them into social/political power.  Telepresence gives us the virtual
ability to jaunt, and we already defend our most sensitive assets from
intrusion by putting them inside elaborate mazes (firewalls, onion
routing, etc).  Mathematical Munitions™ built to tear big holes in the
networks could provide an equivalent of PyrE in a world completely
dependent on the networks.  So Bester's The Stars My Destination may
also provide very relevant metaphors.
