Re: [darktable-dev] Translations dropped in 3.6
Wiktor & all, currently I'm working on Polish manual translation. Doing it practically from scratch [no existing strings were transferred to weblate] so it takes much time. I am NOT a person doing software translation itself; I have to dig and find a suitable one, However, for keeping in sync with the online manual I'm using 3.7.* snapshot compiled from source and Polish translation works OOTB, of course with some strings missing. So insufficient coverage is NOT the point. I guess. Use 3.7.* instead if you can and the Polish version should work. Next week I'll try to contact a person in charge of dt translation, maybe he'll be able to help. The release doesn’t contain work in progress stuff so also just mostly complete translations. Quality standards are set by the release team … If you want to have a polish translation then translating darktable is a job that needs to be done by someone. If there’s no one doing this, then no translation will be available. You can tell your polish users complaining about missing translation that translating darktable isn’t rocket science. Simply have a look at https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/wiki/Translations and just start contributing… If no one is doing the job then this is an indication that there’s no need for a translation - thats how foss works :) > Am 23.10.2021 um 14:43 schrieb Wiktor Nowak : > > Hello. > > It's common problem that new release is with or without certain > translation. Step in, speak with the devs and start maintaining the translation. The project is Open Source, all people are doing the work on their free time. Is that hard to understand ? We just need to people to keep darktable an high quality application. And yes translations with too many missing strings are dropped. We feel that it is making darktable feel as an unfinished applications. And as we are are it, we need more Windows devs, we need for MacOS devs. Those people are also asking for better support but we do not see man power coming. So, no need to ask, dt is Open Source, grad the source and help making it better. [darktable-dev] Translations dropped in 3.6
Hello. It's common problem that new release is with or without certain translation. In the past I believe I was able to "borrow" translation file from previous release and use it with newer one. Currently I'm not able to repeat the trick. Something has hanged or I'm missing how I did that. I don't understand why translations are present in 3.5 and dropped in 3.6 If it's because of insufficient coverage I think it's dumb. As an user I would like to have access to 3500+ translated messages even if some new ones are missing. What can I do to use pl in the newest release? Polish users keeps asking on my Youtube channel every few releases and I don't know what to tell them actually.
