Fwd: [darktable-user] Tags in xmp files

2023-01-01 Thread Bruce Williams
They are definitely stored in the xmp file, but I have a feeling they are
also stored in one of the database files as well.
As it happens, I got this sorted.
I simply removed all images from darktable and re-added them to the library
and all the tags were read correctly. Not sure why it glitched first time
around.

AFAIK: Tags are stored in library.db or data.db and not in the XMP
files.

There is an option in the storage part 'look for updated XMP file
on startup'.

Is it enabled on your Linux system?
Maybe this will help?

[darktable-user] Tags in xmp files

2023-01-01 Thread Bruce Williams
Happy new year everyone!
Just a quick question about tags. I recently travelled for Christmas. I
took the laptop, and copied images from memory card to the laptop
using darktable. I then tagged all of those images using dt 4.2 on Windows.
When I got home, I sent all of those images and xmp files to a usb key and
copied them onto my linux (desktop) system, and imported them into dt 4.2
on linux mint.
But as far as my desktop version of dt is concerned, there are no tags,
even though I can open up an xmp file in a text editor and see the tags.
Is there a way to get dt to read the tags from the xmp files and add those
tags to whatever database file they should live in? I would prefer NOT to
have to enter all the tags again if I can avoid it!
Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
Bruce Williams
