I makes no sense. It was added by the original author of Lensfun
long ago. I removed the model.

I don't use this camera anymore, but I think I can get it for a few
days. My biggest problem is how / where to make photos which can be
used for calibration. A glass building with "lines" would be fine, but
I have no idea how to get my camera in the center of the heigth.

Ack, you're right, it looks like the G9 is another "phantom" profile. :/

Well, you can always submit some calibration images yourself, if your interest
extends that far:

When I check
https://github.com/lensfun/lensfun/blob/master/data/db/compact-canon.xml
it is the same Canon Powershot G9 __X__ has some lens date, but there
is no G9.

Of courese I will do testing, when you tell me where to get a lens
description for the G9 / G7.

The camera entry was added long ago with this commit:

https://github.com/lensfun/lensfun/commit/ba4551a9040fea333c0af58d6f31249ad2e14c9e

It's not usual to add a compact camera without lens data now, I'm not sure if
the intention was to map it to the lens data for the G9, since it appears to
use the same lens... if you manually choose this camera and confirm that the
corrections seem to work, I'll make the change. It also appears that the G7
doesn't support RAW output with stock firmware; are you using aftermarket
firmware? If so, that should probaby be noted in the profile, especially if
this camera applies any automatic correction to JPEG output.

Also, for future reference, this is the lensfun list:

Yes, and I noticed you did NOT include the part of the lens
description.

I did look at the file you referred to, and _every_ lens in there has a
part in its description...

Oh, well, good luck...

Ok, but this doesn't answer my question, why it makes sense to do this.
IMHO this is useless, if no lens description is available.

Did you see that I posted the beginning of the lens description of the
Canon G7 __X__ ? There is none for the G7 (without X). These both G7
are totally different. The G7 is not a DSLR camera, it is a top compact
camera.

I asked it, because some G7 user could tell me, it works fine for him
and I have something wrong in my system. Many years ago the G7 was the
top model of Canon's compact cameras.

1- Adding a camera and mount definition can be done just from the maker-
provided documentation. Adding a lens requires getting good images and
calculating the correction factors from those images. Which typically requires
someone who has access to the camera and is willing and able to do the work.

2- A mount definition can be valid for a series of cameras. You carefully did
not quote the part of the definition...

And as Roman already said, darktable only uses the lensfun library, it neither
provides it, nor maintains it. So I guess any questions regarding the data
from the lensfun project are better directed to the lensfun project.

From compact-canon.xml

Canon
Canon PowerShot G7
PowerShot G7
canonG7
4.843

I cannot find lens parameters for the G7, but for the G7 X

Canon
Canon G7 X compatibles
...

So why it makes sense to add a camera, but not the lens paramters?

darktable does not provide or ship the lensfun or lensfun database.
darktable simply uses lensfun installed on your system.
Whatever that lensfun has in it's locally-installed db is what you can

[darktable-user] Lensfun - Canon PowerShot G7 (1st generation) supported by darktable?

2017-10-27 Thread Аl Воgnеr
darktable 1:2.2.5-0pmjdebruijn1~xenial

http://lensfun.sourceforge.net/lenslist/ mentions the Canon PowerShot
G7 and the camera is shown with dt, but the lens selection is empty.

The activation of the lenscorrection in dt doesn't change anything.

Should it work or not?
