Terry, I do want to do this as simply as possible. While being a geek about
many facets of my hobby interests, this particular one's not quite as
important to me in a "geek" sense as are some others. For my introduction to
this the MAC Preview method will get me started just fine.

I do appreciate your, and all the other responders, interesting replies. I have
looked at every app website that's been offered. Thank you all.

 I play with a camera that produces 6x4.5 120 negatives. I scan
(photograph) those B/W film negative images using my Nikon Zfc digital
camera, saving the digital images as JPGs on an SD card.

What I want from this app, or for that matter some other app I'm
apparently unawares, is to take the B/W digital negative images from the
SD card in my MAC AIR and convert them into positive image JPGs,
permitting me to then save them in the MAC AIR.

THAT's all I want; just convert negative images into positive images.

Is this the right app for me? Thanks for any advice,

Hi Alf,
definitely do not shoot in JPG as you lose so much detail and
ability to edit. Shoot in RAW if using a digital camera or if scanning with
a film scanner save files as 16 bit tiff files not JPG. There are many
programs that can invert your image into a positive including GIMP and
Darktable. I would probably use GIMP for your task with JPG or Tiff files,
but I see you already have a working solution from a JPG. However,
Darktable might be needed for RAW files.

You can do that with the Preview app on your Mac.  It works with
monochrome as well as color.

Just a thought - if it is possible to scan the film to a raw format then you
might get better results from the final jpegs when exported from DT.

Try the negadoctor module. Type negadoctor in the search module spot. In the
upper right hand corner, select "black and white film" from the drop-down menu.

For some reason, this module does not show up in the default suggested modules.

Hope this module does what you want. I have just played with it.
