Hi,
maybe the text-size is defined in CSS - like a website.

Look at file (in Ubuntu):
 /usr/share/darktable/darktable.css

Try to replace this file from a fresh installation or from

https://redmine.darktable.org/projects/darktable/repository/revisions/master/entry/data/darktable.css.in
