Re: [darktable-user] Strange import behaviour - resolved
Hi KofaWhat I do is export, and then close DT. Move my files as described. Next time I work on DT I select a new directory of RAW fils and get to work. I have been doing the same thing for four years, but this time I deleted the snap install of 3.2 and installed from a deb file instead, and it is the first time I have had the issue of extra "ghost" images creeping in to light table.CheersAndrewSent from my Galaxy Original message From: KOVÁCS István Date: 6/1/21 4:45 pm (GMT+10:00) To: Darktable Users List Subject: Re: [darktable-user] Strange import behaviour - resolved So, it is my understanding that you physically remove images withoutremoving them from darktable's database. So, it is my understanding that you physically remove images without removing them from darktable's database. In that case, you're inviting trouble. When you're done (exported everything etc.), you should select the images and click 'Remove' (not 'Delete'!!!). Removing them before moving the files will keep your database clean. Re: [darktable-user] Strange import behaviour - resolved
Hi Kofa I tried the first of Martin's suggestions but had no success, but his second suggestion to delete the cache has produced the desired outcome. I do not "collect" images as such. Or another way to express it is that I manage my images myself. From the camera I copy the images to a folder in my SSD drive, the folder is named mmdd-modelname. Because of some nice scripting by a friend of mine, instantly the following are created for me as children and grandchildren: mmdd-modelname>mmdd-modelname-exported mmdd-modelname>mmdd-modelname-jpg (I shoot RAW + jpg) mmdd-modelname>mmdd-modelname-RAW mmdd-modelname>mmdd-modelname-exported>FullSize mmdd-modelname>mmdd-modelname-exported>Proofs As soon as this happens the SSD automatically writes a back up to a 2Tb USB drive and continues in real time to back up my work on the images. It is a mirror of my Working Directory on the SSD drive. When I have finished with that folder of work and have created my jpgs or tiffs I place the images in the exported folder, I move all of my RAW files to a RAID drive, and I move the exported folder to my Google Drive folder where it starts synching immediately. Once everything is complete I delete the mmdd-modelname>mmdd-modelname-jpg folder as it is no longer required. This effectively removes the working folder (I delete the parent) and as the working directory is mirrored the data is removed from the 2Tb USB drive. Every Saturday morning (until I get busier) a snapshot is taken of my working directory and it is replaced on a rolling four weekly cycle. I am truly grateful for the work undertaken on my behalf by Ed Chan of the Linux Users of Victoria to protect my data flow.
