Interesting, after some digging, it looks like they do load a geojson of
these divisions at runtime, but its not in the right projection. Maybe
someone can help to fix this?

Dear Arun,

good afternoon. These sub-divisions are specific to IMD (grouping of
districts) not seen in use by other departments. Power sector has their 5
sub-divisions (north,south,west,east, and northeast) and agro-climate zones
are different. The request is only to match the maps made by IMD.

With best wishes,
Sarath

Re: [datameet] Re: India's Weather Zones GIS file !!

2020-05-18 Thread Devdatta Tengshe
There are various ways that you can look at these zones.

If your outlook is targeted towards Agriculture, or ecology, then you
should look into the Agro-climatic Zones. Various Research bodies define
them differently:
https://vikaspedia.in/agriculture/crop-production/weather-information/agro-climatic-zones-in-india

If you want to have the data match the IMD's Sub divisions (WHich are
divided on an Administrative Basis, and no on any geographic bases) then
you will need a Map like this:
https://mausam.imd.gov.in/imd_latest/contents/index_rainfall_subdiv.php

Devdatta

It looks like a grouping of districts, so should be possible to build up
from https://github.com/datameet/maps/tree/master/Districts/Census_2011
In qgis, selecting the boundaries and dissolving them should do the trick.

Are these divisions specific to IMD or are they in use by other departments
as well?
