[Debconf-discuss] DebConf14 Assassins Game: results

2014-08-31 Thread Felipe Augusto van de Wiel (faw)
Hello all,

Here are some stats and the results of the DebConf14 Assassins Game.

We started the game with 49 people, the list was created on Monday,
August 25th, 2014, and included everybody that marked the option
Participate in Assassins game and already checked-in, and nobody
asked to join the game after it started.

In total, 22 ghostifications were reported, by 13 different players.
From all players, 6 left the game before the end, and 21 remained
non-ghosts until the last minute.

The full ranking:

 * 0 ghosts: 36 players

 * 1 ghost:   7 players
Andy Simpkins, Harlan Lieberman-Berg, Kirsten Watson, Mathieu
Trudel-Lapierre (ghostified by Dimitri Ledkov), Philipp Kern,
   Raphael Geissert, and Stefano Rivera.

 * 2 ghosts:  4 players
Iain Lane (ghostified by Raphael Geissert), Joachim Breitner,
Lucas Nussbaum (ghostified by Nicolas Dandrimont), and Nicolas
   Dandrimont.

The second place goes to Dimitri Ledkov, with 3 ghostifications:
Jimmy Kaplowitz, Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre, and Asheesh Laroia.

And the winner is Martin Krafft, with 4 ghostifications: Daniel
Gillmor, Santiago Ruano Rincón, Eduard Bloch, and Ville Korhonen.

Some curious (and maybe interesting) non-scientific stats:

 * 77 semi-automated emails were sent, thru 19 rounds of new
target allocations in response to ghostifications or people
leaving the game. About 200 emails were exchanged between
the Game Admins and the players.

 * Martin Krafft did the first and the last ghostifications.
First person to be ghostified was Daniel Gillmor (reported
at 2014-08-26 18h49m, before completing 4 hours playing).
Last person to be ghostified was Ville Korhonen (reported
at 2014-08-30 17h30m, less than three hours before the end).

 * 07 ghostifications happened on Wednesday, during Day Trip
or Conference Dinner, ~ 1/3 of all ghostifications.

 * The game was played for 101 hours (4 days and 5 hours),
and most reports of notifications came in the afternoon.

Thanks for playing!

[Debconf-discuss] DebConf14 Assassins: last hours

2014-08-30 Thread Felipe Augusto van de Wiel (faw)
Hello DC14 Assassins players, and attendees,

With less than 6 hours left until the deadline, we still have 24
people playing, and 2 people are tied in the first place with
three ghostifications, so there's still time to become the leader
and win this year's game.

At this point, we won't be accepting new subscriptions, sorry.

DebConf14 Assassins Game Rules:

Remember, if you leave the conference before the end of the game
today, Saturday, August 30th 20h00m local time (PDT), please, tell
assass...@debconf.org so we can re-allocate the targets, that way,
players don't waste time looking for someone that is not here.

Happy ghostification!

[Debconf-discuss] DebConf14 Assassins: multiple ghostifications confirmed!

2014-08-27 Thread Felipe Augusto van de Wiel (faw)
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

Hello DC14 Assassins players, and attendees,

The first kill happened on Tuesday August 26th, 2014, and we had
multiple ghostifications during the Day Trip, and the Conference
Dinner is another great chance to meet your targets, so be careful
when wandering around, looking for some ghostifying action.

In case you arrived late, and want to join the game, you can, please
take a look at the wiki page linked below and see the instructions
on how you can join.

DebConf14 Assassins Game Rules:
  https://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf14/Assassins

Every time someone is ghostified, participants in the Waiting Room
join the game, so it is very important to NOT tell who is your target!
In case you get ghostified, report to assass...@debconf.org as soon
as possible (or faw via IRC/message).

One final note, if you leave the conference before the end of the
game on Saturday, August 30th 20h00m local time (PDT), please, tell
assass...@debconf.org so we can re-allocate the targets, that way,
players don't waste time looking for someone that is not here.

Remember, attacks after sunset ARE authorized, your room is the only
safe place!

Happy ghostification!

[Debconf-discuss] DebConf14 Assassins Game is on!

2014-08-26 Thread Felipe Augusto van de Wiel (faw)
Hello DebConf 14 attendees,

Assassins Game happened during DC6, DC7, DC8, DC9, DC12 and DC13,
and we are keeping the tradition alive during DC14.

What is the game? The best way to explain it is pointing you to
the dedicated wiki page:

  http://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf14/Assassins

Despite the name, no violence, no hate. Just fun!

If you clicked on Participate in Assassins game checkbox in your
personal page on the Conference Management System and checked-in
DebConf14 Front Desk before Monday, August 25th 12h00m (PDT), you
are in. If you don't please, read the instruction in the link
above to know how to join the game.

The game just started, at 15h00m PDT (Pacific Time Zone).

Again, everything you need should be explained in
  https://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf14/Assassins

Your target was sent to your email address (same one you used to
register on DebConf14 Conference Management System). If you didn't
got an email, please contact assass...@debconf.org

You will also use assass...@debconf.org to report that you ghostified
your target... or to report that you've been ghostified.

You will get a new target as soon as the ghostification is confirmed,
this might take a couple of hours.

This is all you need to know... for now.

All further questions should go to assass...@debconf.org, or ping
faw on IRC, or (even safer) fine me somewhere in Real Life (tm).

Happy ghostification!

If we (Nicaraguan crew) can take one to give it to leogg we would love it :)

Is getting a taxi a hassle?

A taxi is probably the easiest option (provided there are still some waiting
around at that time). Also, make sure you have some convertible marks (BAM) on
you. There is a VISA-only ATM in the bus station but it may well be closed at
that time.

I confirm that taxis are OK and probably easy to find, even at 2:00am
(according to Moray's experience). The ride is between 8 and 10 KM.

If you don't have KM and have a VISA card, the hotel lobby has an ATM
which you can use to withdraw money and pay the taxi when arriving.

Taxis know about Hotel Bosna and very probably about other hotels
where ppl will be hosted.

The night we arrived the ATM at hotel was not working, the taxi ride
was 8.80 KM and the taxi driver accepted 5 Euros (the conversion rate
is 1.96).

Hi there or, better, here :-)

As usual, debian.ch brought some merchandise (T-Shirts, umbrellas and
 foilstickers) to DebConf10:

Since together with Debian-UK it seems that debian.ch is the other major
entity who produce Debian merchandise, during the first night in NYC I
thought that maybe a merchandise BoF could be a good thing, also to let
people attending conferences/meetings/whatever how to get merchandise.

Moreover, since debian.ch will also produce quite soon a Debian (not
debian.ch) Swiss army knife (Victorinox, not Wenger), it would be a good
idea to discuss about which type of knife people would prefer:

 http://lists.debian.ch/commun...@lists.debian.ch/2010/msg1.html

I set the R-T to debconf-discuss@ (the Evolution custom header insertion
seems not to work), thus please check if you need to reply to other
 addresses.

Debian Brasil is also exchanging merchandise for donations
inside Brazil, we have t-shirts, mugs, stickers, backpacks.

One of the things that everybody asks for is the famous
keychain that some of us have and is usually being sold by
Ganneff.

I would be happy to join the BoF and talk about what we do
in Brazil.

David,

I would follow Holger's advice. :-)

Anto is one of the Local Organizers and I'm also in the
Organization Team, so one way or the other, they will route the
package to me.

 Hi all,

For those of you with a while at Chamartin station waiting for a train
to Caceres and are very hungry, faw and I found a 9€ all-you-can-eat
place. Very friendly to vegetarians, lots of salads, pizza, pasta,
soup, deserts (inc ice cream). Outside across the road filled with
taxis, look for the green restaurant to the right side of the sunlit
plaza. I helpfully forgot the name, sorry :(

The name of the restaurant is FrescCo.

Flash Web Site: http://www.frescco.com/

For the non-Spanish speakers, you got to the restaurant, you
can have as much salad as you want, but as I understood, the salad
is just once and drinks are just once, you pay just after the salad
and drink and then the hot dishes and deserts (including ice cream)
are all you can eat. :-)

FWIW, I also have no objection in scheduling *also* the global party,

Just for the record, I would also vote for the global party,
I enjoyed meet and talk with 300 hundred people during two hours,
even if the talk was only: Hi, I'm the number foo on the list, I
checked my fingerprint and it is OK, this is my passport issued by
the Brazilian Government. What's you number on the list? Did you
check your fingerprint? Can I see your document?.

As proposed last year, we should have a session about the
KSP and also finish the keyring way before to give people to print
the keys. People could opt to not join the big party and also late
arrivers can also sign keys in some sort of ad-hoc mode, even on
the big party or with the small groups.

The other thing, is that Anibal could prepare the keyring,
and we could have daily keysigning shot sessions where people would
hang on together to talk about Debian and sign each other keys. Not
sure if that can work, but using a predefined time slot of 30 min.
and the badges, it could also work.

 Cheers.
