The plan is to do it again, I don't have dates yet, but then possible
dates are similar. It is not great to have the minidebconf in close
proximity, as most people wouldn't be able to attend both :(

 * Should I choose departure or arrival? I thought that the source
vs. destination (supposing that the top field is source and
destination) already indicated that, but I am now unsure.

That's to say if the time specified is the time you take the train or
the time you want to arrive to Heidelberg at.

Some prefilled form for the 15th: http://goo.gl/UPNxfL there are trains
for 19 EUR

Beyond that, I am not sure if I'm elligible for the savings fare or the
 standard fare.

You can choose the cheapest option as long as you don't select any
reductions (you probably are not elligible)

I think that, depending on the time of my plane (and delays, and grabbing my
baggage, and potentially more delays etc.), this uncertainty would rule out
the savings fare? Or wouldn't it? If, given these constrains, it is still
possible to have the discount price, do I have to acquire the BahnCard 25 to
take advantage of the lower price?

The savings fares are for specific trains only. So if your plane is
delayed you might need to pay a penalty to go to another train, but I
don't know how this works

To be honest, I would like to, in principle, take the simplest (read:
smallest number of hops), to avoid some anxiety problems.

In the form i linked, you have options with only one change, less than
one hour in total time. and you have already platform numbers and
everything :)

2015-07-10 Thread Martín Ferrari
To everybody planning to go from the CCC to DC by bus:

 https://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf15/CCCampTransport

This is not going to happen, there was not enough demand to justify it.
I am removing that wiki page now.

Please, make sure you make alternatve travel arrangements. I bought my
train tickets a few days back, and got a couchette in a direct train for
35 EUR, so it is very affordable and convenient.

I have just checked bahn.com, and you can STILL get a direct train from
Berlin to Heidelberg on Monday night (leaves 22:14, arrives Tuesday
4:58) for 19 euros. Hurry up before these go up.

I only suggest this because it's not clear whether the people who
recently conducted the review of the Debconf organisational structu
felt that they had to take the positions and roles of the Debconf

If the review team feel that the separation between the coordinators

I am not entirely sure I understood what are you proposing here, but I
guess you were proposing that the chairs became part of this team?

We are going to be working closely with this team, but for now we prefer
to stay at a distance, we will see how this plays out.

Also, it was us (the chairs) leading the review of the orga structure.

If I can quibble, it might be worth calling this the `site selection

It is a historic name, but it can surely be changed if the coordination

[Debconf-discuss] Travelling by train from France

2013-07-23 Thread Martín Ferrari
Hi there!

I was researching train tickets to go to DC13, and found that
voyages-sncf.fr does not recognise yverdon-les-bains, and only suggests
yverdon (which I cannot find in a map). I assume it is the same thing,
but then it suggests different trains than the ones I see in bahn.de or
in sbb.ch (which sucks big time to find tickets).

So, anyone knows about this? Or any recommendation of where to buy the
tickets? (bahn.de does not sell them, and sbb won't tell me prices until
I selected every part of the trip)

The company is connecto-taxi.com, phone +385 21 312 595, and they speak English.

permits), and -$deity forbids- even practice some sports. The food
will be a Argentinian style barbecue for non-veg(an|etarian)s, and
salads and vegetables pie for the aforementioned. It won't be
suspended because of bad weather, there's space inside for us.

As our budget is very tight at the moment we won't be able to make it
fully sponsored, as was our initial idea. So each participant will
have to pay ARS $50 (about the half).

We'll post more details tomorrow. But please remember that we'll need
to collect the money soon, hopefully starting tomorrow.

I don't arrive in MDQ until Saturday evening but can send money earlier
via Paypal or some other method if that would help.

Sorry, I forgot to explain this clearly. We'll start asking for money
tomorrow for people that aleady arrived. The rest will be asked on
arrival.

Re: [Debconf-discuss] driving toward south Argentina after DebConf8: how about roads?

2008-07-10 Thread Martín Ferrari
Hi,

On Thu, Jul 10, 2008 at 09:41, Stefano Zacchiroli [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

after DebConf8 I'll have some VAC in South Argentina, heading towards
Tierra del Fuego. A possibility I'm considering is traveling a good deal
 of kilometers by (rent) car.

However, I've no idea about which kinds of road can I expect driving
south. I've seen that there are a handful of highways: are they in good
shape? which average speed can I assume to travel on them? What about
 the other, non-highways, roads?

There aren't much highways here. The only two I remember for
long-distance trips are the one going from Buenos Aires to Rosario,
and the other from Buenos Aires to Mar del Plata. The rest are usual
2-track roads. Maximum speed is usually 100-130 km/h, except when the
road goes thru towns, there you have to go below 40.

The national roads are usually usable, but that depends on where you
go. FOr Tierra del Fuego you don't even have a direct road, you have
to cross to Chile and then come back. If you're going along the Andes,
you'll probably take the 40, which is not paved in some places.

Tincho.

[Debconf-discuss] DebConf 8 website: a call for help

2008-07-10 Thread Martín Ferrari
Follows a copy of what I just posted to the DC blog:

DebConf 8 is approaching and our website is clearly not what we'd like
it to be. It turns out that compiling all the useful stuff that
travellers might need is not easy, so we kindly ask you —dear
lazyweb—, to lend us a hand.

The most important thing we need, is to recognise missing data. When
you're a local, is difficult to know what foreigners might need to
know. So, even if you don't know the country, your different point of
view could help.

The second thing is to actually get articles written, some stuff ought
to be written by locals, but the majority can be researched from the
web (as we already did!). Proof-reading and checking translation is
also appreciated.

Send us your patches, comments and suggestions to the website queue at
the RT system, or contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] Don't sweat over formatting:
plain text is OK, if you want to provide markup, please use very
spartan XHTML Strict.

Re: [Debconf-discuss] [Debconf-announce] Night venue - volunteers needed!

We need a few reliable volunteers to look after the overnight hacklab

hacking sessions are important to you then please get in touch - you
 can make them happen!

Last night I stayed for closing the night venue. I can still do that
provided I'm not attending any talk in the early morning, or somebody
volunteers for waking me up in the morning :)

[Debconf-discuss] Fwd: DebConf2 stuff wanted!

2007-05-07 Thread Martín Ferrari
Hi,

Sorry if this message gets to you twice, as I don't know who's
subscribed and who's not.

I'm trying to build a site for documenting the past DebConf2 as
currently there are none, only a few pages scattered (and some lost).

So, if you have something: pictures, talks slides or transcripts,
recaps of the event, even some blog posting, it could be nice to put
it into the site.

Right now, I'm missing information about the following talks:

Introduction
Joe Drew, Bdale Garbee [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Free Software in Brazil
Henrique de Moraes Holschuh [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Security Enhanced (SE) Linux in Debian
Russell Coker [EMAIL PROTECTED]
debconf at Debconf
Joey Hess [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Catered dinner (there was a talk here??)
Michael Robertson, Bdale Garbee [EMAIL PROTECTED]
How to support users
David B. Harris [EMAIL PROTECTED]

To Joe, Bdale, Henrique, Damian, Andreas and Matt: I already could
find the material from your talks not listed here, I'd like to know if
it's OK if I upload that in the new site.

Thanks!
