I do believe a majority of debconf attendees will know the true meaning
of "hacker".

Happy hacking,

Could we please keep politics out of any Debian list?

I'd very much prefer if we just keep fighting for free software, and I
suspect I'm not the only one with that preference. Debian isn't the
place for such political debate/statements.

Over the years, I've learned to travel light. I've been going to the
last debconf with only a carry-on (ie: less than 10kg). How come you
believe you can't fit a sleeping bag in your 20kg+ luggage + carry-on then?

I'd also warmly recommend shadowsocks. This nice piece of software also
digs holes through nation wide firewalls, for example in countries south
of Russia (to avoid names).

[Debconf-discuss] Are some of these stuff available in the hostel?

2015-08-03 Thread Thomas Goirand
Hi,

I usually don't ask much from Debconf, and I'd be satisfied even with
the most basic things. But because I'm coming with my family this time,
I need to ask a few things in order to prepare the trip. I've gone
through the wiki, sorry if I missed already available info.

- Are bed sheets provided by the hostel, or should we bring some?
- Is there a swimming pool nearby?
- Is there some baby chairs available or should I bring one to feed by
little girl?
- Is there a microwave that we could use to warm-up baby food?
- Do we have access to a washing machine?

Thanks in advance to whoever will take the time to reply,

Cheers,

 Hi,

We are considering introducing a new talk length for DebConf 15: 20' talks.

These talks would have their own slot (30' slot with a 10' pause between
talks), and at a certain time any concurrent talks would have the same length.

Please do it! I'd like to give at least a talk using this format. 20
minutes is more than enough to give an update on OpenStack, like I did
this year, for example.

While I don't dictate my fellow Debian friends not to use those
either, here, we're not talking about any random family photos. We're
talking about Debconf, and pictures of us taken there. I believe
therefore that it is appropriate and legitimate in this case to raise my
concern and disapproval.

Speaking of this, I think it would be better if you were only uploading
automatically to our git-annex and only push that to flickr after 24|48|72
hours (or never), or doesnt flickr automatically claim rights on uploaded
 fotos?

While I have no problem with people taking photos of me, or even
uploading them to their own web site or to a Debian website, I am always
uncomfortable with uploads to 3rd party websites which nobody in the
Debian community owns.

Could we just *stop* uploading to flickr, picassa, and such? I don't
trust them. I don't like them. They *must* monetize somehow, and they
may one day sell pictures of anyone, then claim that it's in the TOS and
we may as well just shut up if that happens... It's not as if there was
no free software to host such content!
