Re: Call for bids for DebConf24

2023-10-30 Thread Paulo Henrique de Lima Santana

Hi,

Just to be clear: I agree with all points you all have listed here about
DebCamp :-)

But, for 2024, with less months to organize, I think would be good
remove this workload from Local Team. Or at least, would be good people
know that isn't mandatory organizing 2 weeks of event, right?

But... if the future local team will be happy to deal with DebCamp +
DebConf, great :-)

Re: Call for bids for DebConf24

2023-10-30 Thread Paulo Henrique de Lima Santana

Hi,

Probably this isn't a popular opinion, but If you're thinking to host
DebConf24, I suggest you don't organize 2 weeks of event (DebCamp +
DebConf).

Considering the shorter time, If I was you, I wouldn't organize DebCamp.
DebCamp is nice, it's great to have people earlier, but it's too much
work before the main event.

In 2019 we had 2 weeks, and because most of attendees arrived during
DebCamp, we had to deal with accomodation, food and venue for these 2
weeks. When DebConf itself started, I was exhausted and I felt I
couldn't join the main part of the event.

My sugesstion is: open the accomodation on Saturday, start the schedule
on Sunday, and finish it on next Saturday. And use the Sunday for people
leave the city, for tourism, or organize just a special lunch (we
organized a barbecue in Curitiba).

Organize 2 weeks of event with venue, accomodation and food isn't good
for your mental health :-)

Ps. If video team needs arrive earlier to set up everything, it's ok,
open a exception for them, and just for them.

Dear DebConf Designers

You all threw your hat into the the ring with the DebConf20 design
contest last year. Rather than wasting people's time with a contest
again this year, we'd like to make design for DebConf21 a collaborative
effort.

To get started, we've got a live website with a derivative of the
debconf20 design. But I'm sure you can collectively do better :)
https://debconf21.debconf.org/

Here's a Salsa Issue where we can colloborate on the design. Feel free
to make MRs into the dc21-online repo with design assets.
https://salsa.debian.org/debconf-team/public/data/dc21-online/-/issues/7

I (stefa...@debian.org, tumbleweed on IRC) can advise on what is and
isn't easy to do in website design. Ideally, I'd like someone to
volunteer to coordinate the design process.

BCCing everyone who submitted a design last for DebConf20's logo
contest. Discussion can continue on the debconf-team mailing list, and
the salsa issue.

If you are planing to go to the trip by train to Morretes, please go to
Front Desk and pay to Daniel Lenharo ASAP.

We (local team) must pay a part of the amount today (friday) for the
agency at 15h to guarantee the trip, so, hurry up :-)

If you can't pay today, we can wait until monday 14h.

If you are in the waiting list, you can pay too because I believe we can
add more 14 people. We are getting 1 bus with 44 seats and another with
30 seats. Maybe we can change the second for 44 searts, but we need to
know today if we will really have more than 74 travelers.

I don't know why, but in their site, they say is cheaper if you pay with
credit card.

I did a MR to the DC19 website with this:

The cost is R$ 15 (about 4 USD) for one way, paying with money (BRL).
Promotions:
 * R$ 16 round trip, paying with credit card.
 * R$ 10 for one way, paying with credit card.

I can't say for homeless people this kind of clothes is too much or not.
Maybe for people living on the streets, 10°C is already too cold.
My impression is any kind of clothes is better than no clothes.

DebConf19: winter clothing campaign

2019-06-30 Thread Paulo Henrique de Lima Santana
Hi all,

As you know, DebConf19 will take place on the winter here in Curitiba,
and every year there is a big "winter clothing campaign" (called
campanha do agasalho) [1] when people can donate winter clothes.

So, if you have some clothes you would like to donate, bring them with
you and you can leave them in a box at the venue.

There are Cometa and Kaissara. Both are good.
https://www.viacaocometa.com.br/
https://www.kaissara.com.br/

We can see all options on this website, but i couldn't find english version:
https://www.clickbus.com.br/

At Tiete Bus Station you can find all companies desk and buy there.
There are a lot of departures schedule.

If you flight will be at night, I suggest you departure from Curitiba by
morning. It's better arrive in São Paulo before 6PM.

You will have to put your rucksack on the luggage compartment. It's safe
keep it there. The driver will give a ticket number to you.

During this travel, the bus will make one stop. When this happen, take
you "shoulder bag and bum bag" with you. Don't leave it on the bus.

It's good. Executivo and Semi-Leito type are comfortable. Leito and
Leito-Cama the seat turn in a bed.

Don't buy "Convencional" :-)

In São Paulo, you will departure/arrive at Tiete Bus Station.

Or take Uber or 99.
Or take metroo, but it's not easy to take it.

When I go to events here in Brazil, and I want leave my laptop alone on
the table, I alwayes use a locker like this:

Its not the "most safer locker on the world", but its better than nothing.

I've never had a problem with someone cutting the cable.

We have public hospitals here.
And the venue is cover by an emergency company.

The hotel is very close from the venue. And there is a Mall between
them. We are finishing a map, you can see a draft here:

decide all beers we want before.
- We can change the "flavour" of the beers during DC19.

But its good have a idea what kind of beers we probably will drink more.

Actually Conf Dinner we already have a DJ to play after the dinner on a

Also, Jon maddog proposed we talk with owners of the bar called Hopn

Hi, I sent my opinion to debconf-team list, so I am copying here:

If there is a demanding for have a DebConf in Europe in 2021, there are
a lot of support to that, and DebConf committee believes this is better,
I think it's fair that DebConf committee ask to any countries outside
Europe make Bids to DebConf21.

I am sure if this is a good to everyone, we will support. To me, the
worst cenario is leave countries outside Europe make their Bids and in
the end, the decision goes to Europe anyway.

So, in my opinion, DebConf committee should talk with Indian team to
wait 2022.

If you use numbers of DDs, we will always have DC in Europe :-)

My question is not about DC21 to go or not to go to Europe, but you say
***now*** that you would like to have it in Europe.
Lets wait to see the bids first.

Hi,

I was reading 35c3 CfP [1] and I saw this:

"Talks should be either 30 minutes long plus 10 minutes for questions and
answers or 45 minutes long plus 15 minutes for questions and answers."

QA been mandatory, is it a problem?
