Re: Shipping Debian merch/goodies to India

Please note that this is also a good occasion for bid Debconf committee to
setup a group of people, start organising thing together, and also start to
think all financial issues that we have on paying and selling stuffs. This is
an important first step. (remember that talk is cheap and organising is very
time expensive: these are the two most important discoveries on Debconf
organising).

ciao Cate (and sorry for the top reply).

Have a look at
https://www.debian.org/logos/

You will for sure look for the svg files so you can do graphics no
matter which size.

Dear Vishal,

While I dunno about Chennai, there is a small town/village at the end
of Tamil Nadu where there is a huge cottage industry where T-shirts,
hoodies etc. are printed and sent all over India and even abroad. If
needed will have to dig through my mail/bookmarks etc. I do have that
info. somewhere although Praveen and somebody else whose name I have
forgotten at the moment had shared they got the material and the
printing done at the same place.

The only reason I say this is that all the T-shirts that Praveen got
printed I used till years till they got frayed and torn but most of
them went around 3-4 years and were cheap.

As has been pointed out by other people on this thread.
We can print out some local Debian swags.
I'll try to do that when I get back from DebConf.
I would be bringing some Debian stickers along with me.
And we would print some more stickers.
People can take the swags from me when they meet me.
Or they can ask me directly to get it shipped to them.

@Gunnar, well said.
It's great to know that you've been a long-time contributor.
We could print some swag for GSoC students and contributors around Chennai,
India.
Where can I find some high resolution debian designs ?
(I did manage to find a good-enough logo though)

To the people who're interested,
I did a bit of research. Found this site : https://inkmonk.com/
T-Shirts - $5
Hoodies - $9
Laptop Sleeve - $12

Let me know if you'd like to get something printed.

@Manas/Vishal/Kartik = Pls keep eye on mini Debconf's in India. If you
are in Mumbai or Pune city, I am sure many engineering students have
the Debian stickers printed during recent mini Debconf's.

As per my previous experiences, sometime we never receive the
merchandise/swags/stickers sent from abroad if sent by non tracking
postal service.
If sent by tracked courier/postal service, we need to pay custom duty
depending on declared amount.
If we calculate the custom duty + shipping charges, it is equal to
printing 4 t-shirts locally with Debian logo. :-)

Regards,
Amey.

Oh I am not a GSoC student either...I wasn't being clear in my previous
email so I wanted to clear the misunderstanding.

And would we be able to get those goodies if we arrange for prepaid
shipping from any place in India? Also if someone from Bangalore has
attended the debconf and was willing to get it I would personally head
anywhere near Bangalore to collect it.

Debian will only be able to reimburse such things from 2018 GSoC
students (if it can even be arranged in the first place...)

happily reimburse this for you.
