Re: Budget extension for bursaries

2024-06-03 Thread Andreas Tille
Hi Stefano,

as far as I understand the calculation below we do not have as much
sponsors as expected. My guess is that it is hard to work on this in
the short time frame we had. Is this due to the fact that long term
"all-past-DebConf-sponsors" did not continued their support for DebConf
or did we just assumed to find sponsors which did not worked?

In the former case do you think it makes sense if I as DPL might contact
those past sponsors. If you agree could you give me some contact and
possibly some draft we sent for sponsoring requests?

Possibly a crazy idea but if I think of companies of South Korea Samsung
always comes to mind. Did we asked them for sponsoring and do you think
its a good idea to do so?

Thank you for the clarification
Andreas.

Maybe DebConf size has enlarged in the last 10 years but in 2013 I had
the feeling that the venue is large enough - it had even a "Scenic
hacklab". ;-) I was not sleeping in a tent at that time but I liked the
idea and would be fine bringing my tent next time.

Thanks a lot for checking. I'm fine for myself with any time of the
year but I understood that several people who usually attend DebConf
were not in Kochi due to the date in September. If I remember correctly
we had >600 attendees in summer 2015 so I could imagine a great DebConf
with about 400 in fall if 1/3 of people might have problems with this
time of the year. My guess is that spring is a bit short time for
preparation. So if there is no other option I'd vote for this.

I just confirm I safely passed any checks and sitting at the gate (where
I need to wait for two hours but anyway). Just to let you know.

After Héctor's report I can't confirm any trouble for my case - may be
since I had a real huge savety time span planed. I was again asked for
my hotel and the purpose of my stay. I answered meeting with friends.
What kind of friends? IT-friends.

Finally you all are friends and I really enjoyed what you all did for
the attendees.

See you at whatever DebConf or in case you might come to Germany

What should we do with the first events tomorrow morning

2023-09-13 Thread Andreas Tille
Hi,

I've been just shocked to realise that I have a "competing" talk with
Abraham tomorrow morning. Nilesh told me he can't speak tomorrow which
I absolutely understand since Abraham was a close friend to him.

I personally would feel able to hold the Debian Med BoF but I feel
somehow useless in doing so. That tiny BoF is not important at all and
can be either moved or droped.

If we do something in Anamudi to remember Abraham I'll be there and join
the remembering - thus the Debian Med BoF will not happen (at least not
at this time).

Given that Abraham was the first speaker tomorrow in the main Auditorium
I consider it an appropriate way to deal with the situation if we all
might assemble there and think of him (but this should be announced
for those who expect a normal talk since they missed the bad news)

I'm fine for a short in person meeting to talk about this

 Andreas.

So even if I take a taxi to the venue I will not make it before 21:00 at

There are other options not mentioned: Originally I intended to visit
FOSSASIA in Singapore as my "Debian event of this year" since I had
additional private reasons to go to Asia in Spring. Thus I had to skip
DebConf since my amount of vacation only permits spending one week +x
per year for Debian travel.

When FOSSASIA became impossible for me to attend due to COVID-19 I
switched my plan to rather attend DebConf. So I my plan to attend
DebConf *after* COVID-19 outbreak. However, my gut feeling tells me
me that my plan was over-optimistic and that I do not expect me to
come in August - even if I would be happy to come.

No idea how this would fit into your survey.

I do not really want to insist but by pure chance I could probably carry
back 10kg (no idea how many towels that might be). I'll drop in at
my Vietnamese daughter before DebConf. She is pregnant and I'll bring

Same questions but without the smoking requirement. ;-)

See you

Towels for DebConf 18

2018-01-31 Thread Andreas Tille
Hi Andrew,

when discussing with Tiago an old idea I had for DebConf 9 in
Extremadura came up again. Since it is supposed to be that hot
we shoud produce Debian towels saying:

  Don't panic
Debian

Once Bubulle wanted to made this by Debian France but it turned out
too expensive. I would really like to take three of these if you could
realise this idea for DebConf 18. :-)

Kind regards

   Andreas.
