Just chiming in with two fonts that are on my own radar. One is called
"fonts-opendyslexic" with a description that says, "Font designed to
increase readability for readers with dyslexia". I've never tried it.
I just keep it in conscious memory for moments just like this.. :)

The other is "ttf-anonymous-pro". This is one of the first packages I
install on every debootstrap I do these days. The description is
"fixed width sans serif font designed for coders". It was made for
people who spend a lot of time trying to sift through code on
[terminal] windows. I LOVE it..

Am mentioning both in case a test drive shows that they might help
someone out here..

When I worked for the Navy, a recommendation was made to all employees to
use Lucida-bright font. I don't know that this one is even available but
it got recommended due to its easy visibility.

I have never had this issue.

upgrade systems. It would be good to investigate with Anton what exactly
remains from such upgrades. A freshly installed system doesn't have the
issue: dpkg-reconfigure console-setup, and the effect is both immediate
as well as after a reboot.

The main issue here is despite of the font selected at each startup the
TTY doesn't load it. You need to run manually "setup-con" blindly to
make it working. This seems to be this issue
.

Could someone in this group get this to be included in Debian, and for

This is already available in dpkg-reconfigure console-setup, you just
need to choose the Terminus font, and you will be able to choose 16x32.

I don't have the skills, but I believe if someone does, and it might
be simple, fonts can be generated by this font into larger sizes.

This is discussed in bug #595696 (see
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=595696 ). It's a
matter of someone taking the time to do it.

?
The terminus fonts shipped by Debian contain anything you would want.
The TerminusBold font also ship several codeset variants, to cope with
Linux' limited font loading support to 512 glyphs.

that's the same font, only the shipped glyphs differ, ter-v* having
the most. From the README:

2.4. Legend.

ter-m* mik Bulgarian-MIK
ter-p* pt154 Paratype-PT154
ter-u* koi8u KOI8-U

ter-v* all mappings / code pages listed above and many others, about 110
language sets, 8 or 16 foreground colors depending on the kernel and
console driver

names style

ter-*n normal
ter-*b bold
ter-*f framebuffer-bold

PS and OT for Alex: David doesn't want to use fbterm on the console
because he prefers to keep speech, but IIRC you don't so you should
really try it if not already done.

For instance:
fbterm -s 4O
4O is the font size, you may make it as big as you want.

To get out of the frame buffer just press Ctrl+d

Happy New Year to all.

Best,

Didier

I got my font size larger, by copying the ter-v32b.psf.gz console
font file from a computer running Arch Linux and setting it up in
Debian in /etc/rc.d/rc.font

rc.font containing this line:
setfont -v ter-v32b.psf.gz

The file rc.font was then made executable. Rebooting gave me the
large font in console which previously was not even available in
Debian.

Debian has nearly everything, but it lacks this.
