debian firmware July 22, 2020 install

2020-08-30 Thread Matthew Dyer

Hi Jud,

What kind of computer is this by chance.  I ask as I have tried
installing debian with the standered install though I am using the non
free firmware it still complans about nededing wifi drivers, but
downloading the firmware driver set from the debian site and then using
the advance installer works.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

Matthew

I had gone with the default software selection of 1,6,10,12 for

accessibility. Speakup says ok on booting and nothing else until I ctty
into tty1 then I get a login prompt and can log into the system. orca
does not come up talking when system is allowed to run until the disk
drive goes silent. Using orca -e is ineffective.
Will it be possible to have orca come up talking on this system and if not
I hope I'll be able to remove the debian desktop environment and mate.
Haven't tried that yet since I'm to move and haven't got time to do much
with computers for a few days.

Hi all, Not sure if this should go to the users list but here is the question.

2020-05-15 Thread matthew dyer
Hi all,

Just rejoined this list today. I am wanting to nstall Debian testing or stable
depending on what can be done about the following. I have an hp note book
which is only a couple of years old and I have since replaced windows 10 with
ubuntu and now I am looking to install Debian, but here are couple of
questions. First, the first ime I tried to do the install, I used the nonfree
firmware version as I figured that would have the drivers it might need, but
during the detecting of hardware I was told that I would need a driver which I
can't remember the modle name of rite now, but any how, with ubuntu and orca,
is there a way to get the modle name of my wifi driver so that I can search for
it.

Second, this has to do with the installer itself, I notesed when looking at the
expert installer, you can select an opsion by typing in a number of the opsion
you want, but when looking at manual for the install, it metions using the
arrow keys to move through the choices. Am I missing something? Thanks. Just
thought I would point this out since I have always used the normal opsion for
the install. One other thing, is the gtk installer accessible with speech? It
has never been mentioned that I remember so thought I would ask about it.

Matthew

Not sure if I should report it hear but be careful not remove mate as a opsional removle package in buster/unstable/sid.

Hi all.

Not sure if I should report this here or not, but this morning, I updated my
debian unstable box and as an orca user of mate, I saw that mate desktop was
listed as an opsional removle package. After updating the packages that needed
to be upgraded, I ran sudo apt-get autoremove and mate desktop and libreoffice
were both removed from my system. I can reinstall these packages ofcorse, but
I wanted to bring it up to anyone who may be upgrading there
buster/unstable/sid system. Not sure if this was ententional or not, but if
not, this should be reported. Thanks. Just thought I would report this.

Thanks again.

Hi all.

My name is Matthew Dyer and I have just joined this list for watching
the accessibility of debian devlopment. I am also on a few of the other
debian lists as well. I am using orca which brings up a question. Is
there a reason why debian 8.3 is using orca 3.14 when orca is now up to
3.18.2. Just wondering. I am ffinding that in icedove that orca
doesn't tell me that a conversation is expanded when pressing the right
arrow key to expand. I just find this strange. Just my observation for
now. Thanks.
