Re: which ATI video does 164LX ARC firmware like?

2003-07-25 Thread Gregory P. Smith
Don't know about ARC (do you mean AlphaBIOS ?) (I have switched to
SRM long ago) but I run a Radeon 7500 without problems and boot off
  IDE fine.

As Helge said, the latest SRM (5.8, IIRC) will boot just fine from the
 builtin IDE controller.

And also, the 7500 works very well for me.

However, I've had a few problems with the 7000, and the 9100, AFAIK,
has never been 3D-tested in the PCI version *OR* on the Alpha, so there
could be unknown issues (it would also need at least 4.3.0, maybe even
the CVS tree, for full support).

thanks. I'll get a 7500 and see how it goes. yes, i meant AlphaBIOS
(where did i get the name ARC from? no idea..). Switching to SRM would
be a good thing for the future but it means a -lot- of work if i need
to convert a drive to bsd disklabel partitioning to boot from.

compiling my own X server from 4.3.0 or cvs won't be a problem. I run
a woody system with a small smattering of testing (glibc, up to date
whois, and a few other updated packages) and prefer not to get into
debian between-release dependancy hell.

Ideally i'd also like to use the DVI port on whatever card I get but
I understand from previous postings that its easier said than done at
the moment.

I want to replace my Matrox Millenium II with a more modern card and

7500 and 9100 are all options i'm considering.

Also, if I do have to switch to SRM, will recent SRMs boot off of an

I have 5.7-1, though I don't know if this is the latest SRM.
