Re: Can't boot on a machine with LSI Logic 53C1030 Raid controller

2003-01-08 Thread Eduard Bloch
#include hallo.h
* Jorge Martinez [Tue, Jan 07 2003, 10:47:22AM]:

downloaded it, and created the floppy with the extra drivers, but not much
luck. I tried the 'mptbase.o' and 'mptscsih.o' drivers, which I think are
the correct ones for my hardware. I also tried many others just for kicks.

The question is - which controller is it? LSI Logic Fusion or
Symbios-based series? For Symbios, you could try the ncr* driver.

I am wondering if those may be the right drivers, but I need to pass some
additional arguments that I am not aware of.

It is hard to say what is going wrong without having such hardware to
test and without knowing what actually the module reports to you.

Gruss/Regards,
Eduard.

Re: making my own netinstall CD

2003-01-08 Thread Eduard Bloch

* Bertrand d'Herouville [Wed, Jan 08 2003, 01:15:07AM]:
I need to enable the support of the Silicon Image 6880 directly into the
 kernel.
I want to make my own netinstall CD and i don't find any documentations.
Does anybody have some good links for me ?

Use floppies and read in the manuall about kernel replacement. However,
the old driver CONFIG_BLK_DEV_CMD680 is enabled in the new kernel of
next (testing) release of boot-floppies. Please look at
http://people.debian.org/~blade/bf3024/ and report the results.

Gruss/Regards,

Re: specialize Woody distribution

2003-01-08 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Frederic Leger]
I use Debian Woody. But I need to create specific release of CD n°1
because I want install Debian with some full automatic scripts.
So, I'm looking for solution for modifying original CD and re-create a
new ISO image. How can I do that ?

Check out the debian-cd package, and replace boot-floppies with your
own installer.

Re: Can't boot on a machine with LSI Logic 53C1030 Raid controller

2003-01-08 Thread Jorge Martinez
Hi:

The one I have is the LSI Logic Fusion 53C1030. That's what Redhat finds
when I boot up with RH 8.0. Regarding the error that the module reports,
this is what it says:

'The loading has failed' in the installation screen, and when I go to the
messages screen, I see this:

[date, and time] (none) user.info dbootstrap[80]: Warning: loading
mptbase.o will taint the kernel: forced load
[date, and time] (none) user.info dbootstrap[80]: mptbase.o: init_module:
No such device
[date, and time] (none) user.info dbootstrap[80]: Hint: insmod errors can
be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ
parameters
[date, and time] (none) user.err dbootstrap[80]: The loading has failed

Therefore, it seems that it wants me to pass it some parameters. I then
try to install mptscsih.o, but I get a lot of error messages (I assume the
mptbase.o has to be sucessfully loaded first):

[date, and time] (none) user.info dbootstrap[80]: mptscsih.o: unresolved

Weird. Maybe it is incompatible with Woody's kernel, it is almost one

Hi Eduard:

The new drivers did the trick. Don't know if it was the kernel, or the
drivers, but it is seing the controller now. Thanks,

Jorge M.

patch: debian-boot as maintainer for grub-installer?

2003-01-08 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

I suggest applying this patch to make grub-installer maintained by
debian-boot, and to make sure it shows up on

Anyone against it?

This bug should be fixed on boot-floppies side

2003-01-08 Thread Junichi Uekawa

eject is missing from the woody basedebs. On powerpc, this makes changing
the CDs extremely awkward (newbies rarely dare poke a paper clip into the
CD tray). Installation from CD is impeded severely, hence the severity of
 critical.

I think this bug should be dealt on boot-floppies side.
Shouldn't it ?

junichi
