IMNSHO, it should say «no partitions available». If you are doing
this, you are advanced enough to do this in a shell as well.

The grub-installer fail to install a bootable configuration if the
root file system is not on the first parition. This is because of bug

anna stands for anna's not nearly apt and is used to configure

main/debian-installer component in Release file

2003-02-22 Thread Glenn McGrath

Extracted from the unstable Release file

Architectures: alpha arm hppa hurd-i386 i386 ia64 m68k mips mipsel
powerpc s390 sh sparc
Components: main contrib non-free
 main/binary-alpha/Packages
 main/source/Sources
 main/debian-installer/binary-alpha/Packages

In this context, what is debian-installer supposed to be, should
main/debian-installer be considered the component, if so how about
putting it in the Components field ?

If debian-installer is a sub-component of the main component it would be
good if that was mentioned somewhere.

The code is small, but as it needs libgcrypt (which needs opencdk and
zlib) it makes it a 350kB binary, 171kB gzip'ed, which is pretty big for

To be more specific, compiling statically against libopencdk, libgcrypt

IMNSHO, it should say ?no partitions available?. If you are doing
this, you are advanced enough to do this in a shell as well.

Why can't it simply show what's in /proc/partitions? That should include
all partitions as well as whole discs.

Re: Bug#182041: PIC library has bad name

2003-02-22 Thread Junichi Uekawa
mklibs fails to find the PIC library for reduction since it's called
libnewt-utf8_pic.a while mklibs expects it to simply be libnewt_pic.a

We're using newt debian-installer so it'd be nice if this were fixed so
we could save some bytes on the boot media. :-)

I have a few questions:

I've thought boot-floppies worked with the name libnewt-utf8_pic.a.
Why doesn't debian-installer mklibs not work with it?

And why does the boot media get some bytes free by changing the
name here ?

regards,
junichi

SparcStation 20 and SILO

2003-02-22 Thread Tim Spriggs

Hello,

I have been having some serious issues trying to get a
SparcStation 20 to boot. In order to install debian I had to net-boot the
machine since it did not like the cd-rom for some reason.

The installation process has had problems at the very end when
Making the system bootable and has come up with a non-specific failure.
Other times it succeeds and simply wants to reboot.

Either way, when I try and boot the machine from the drive I just
installed debian on, it gives me an error in the open boot prom:

The file just loaded does not appear to be executable.

I have looked all over the place online and found only one
reference to someone who changed a parameter in /etc/silo.conf which I
tried with no success.

Any help or even suggestions as to how to get this thing moving would be
highly appreciated.

Thank you,

-Tim

I need more info on your system, like disks installed and the partition
layout you configured.
