As the de facto maintainer of console-data, I agree with this. I have
to add that I unfortunately am entirely unable to implement in c-d
something to have it grab keymap definitions from
console-setup. Moreover, as both use different origins for the keymaps
(c-s uses X.org keymaps while c-d provides the old-style Linux console
keymaps, crafted by generation of Linux users over yearsturning
into a giant mess), it is very likely that many keymaps do not
necessarily correspond.

I would be delighted to obsolete console-data, as many people
know. There are however several steps to achieve before that happens
(one of those being d-i uing console-setup).

An I indeed have no idea about how to turn console-data into a
completely obsolete package and then offer users a decent transition
to console-setup

Why this should be considered a bug? Normaly the users don't have to
install both packages but perhaps there are many reasons why they might
want to install them both. Console-data and console-cyrillic have
happily coexisted for a decade and now this can continue with
console-setup (exept that it seems console-data and console-cyrillic are
going to become obsolete).

Bug#524235: Default alt-gr key replacement should be right alt for usa keyboard.

2009-04-15 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: console-setup
Version: 1.32

Hi,

When installing console-setup, it asks for various keyboard
settings. I've selected pc104 - usa - usa.

Then it asks for an "AltGr key replacement". A standard US
keyboard does not have an AltGr key, and I guess this is
why it's asking this question?

The default option is "No AltGr key" which seems to make it a
Left Alt key.

It seems I need to select the "Right Alt" option to make my
keyboard work like it used to again. I didn't have any kind
of configuration before.

The question isn't also very clear.

Hi,

console-setup and console-data both allow you to setup the
keyboard layout but they do not take each other settings into

I think there is yet an other package that does the same thing,
but I'm not sure about it's name.

What does that mean for installations via WPA? Do you intend to write
out the WPA key in /e/n/i? Besides, what does happen for installations
via WEP encrypted wifi?

Wouldn't it be better to not configure wifi devices in /e/n/i at all,
at least not when the installer has installed network-manager? This
would be my preferred option with my pkg-wpa-devel hat on.

D-I team meetings

2009-04-15 Thread Christian Perrier
As the consequence of recent discussions in the mailing list, we will
now have regular team meetings each 1st and 3rd Monday of the month,
at 20:00 UTC. These meetings will last for 1h30 (or less if few things
need to be discussed).

The D-I team meetings page
(http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/Meetings) has been revamped to
cope with this. There is now only *one* page for D-I meetings (we
formerly had a "Coordination" page that has been merged into this
one).
