I didn't realise that udeb-generating packages were still frozen. Is that

You're supposed to mail -boot as well… (Doing so, adjusting subject.)

And yes, udeb-generating are always frozen.

For the moment, it's supposed to change in the future though.

Anyway, unblocked after ack from Otavio.

I have installed from the 10 may 2005 daily build on a generic P3-866
system
with a Compaq 3200 Disk Array controller. Everything went well, until
the system

booted into the newly installed Deb. While starting rcS.d it got to
S30checkfs.sh. The check returned /dev/ida/c0d0p1 is not a valid block
device.

After getting into the shell I noticed that if I ran /etc/rcS.d/S40hotplug,
followed by mount -a, the devices mounted without problems. If I tried
mount -a

without first loading hotplug, the invalid block device error came up.
I have renamed S40hotplug to S29hotplug and rebooted, to find that
everything

ran smoothly; the error as above didnt occur any longer. Maybe it is a good
idea to place hotplug *before* checkfs, as it appears that some devices,
such as the Compaq 3200 Disk Array, need to be detected before a fsck
can be

succesfully started.
If there are any serious reasons of why hotplug is placed after checkfs,
please

let me know because I have planned to leave the rcS.d as it is right now.
Thanks

-Patrick

Someone recently sent a report of successfull install of

Given that, I'm closing this bug report on the assumption

Re: Switch to udhcpc in netcfg

2009-07-18 Thread Otavio Salvador
Hello all,

On Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 2:03 PM, Christian Perrierbubu...@debian.org wrote:
I just tested it with a locally built netboot image in Virtualbox.

I applied the patch, compiled netcfg and built with that udeb in
 build/localudebs

It unfortunately doesn't work. netcfg times out.

I've redone the Luk's patch to allow us to keep dhclient, dhclient3
and pump support. It is quite important, specially now, due the lack
of properly support of busybox to kfreebsd and possible other OSs.

To get it working I've to change netcfg and also to produce a busybox
udhcpc script. I've made the patches available for review and testing.
Please take a look at http://people.debian.org/~otavio/netcfg-udhcpc/

To test the udhcpc usage you can build an installer image with the
modified udebs and do, at console:

#: rm -rf /var/lib/dhcp3 /sbin/dhclient*

That way udhcpc is going to be used.

Two changes needed for supporting scratchbox2:

The patch looks OK but:

 - it has coding style issues (mixed tabs and spaces)
 - it lacks manpage updates

Please take a look on those things and post it again for new review.

Bug#537502: netboot for Squeeze: everything failed... +no error checking

2009-07-18 Thread Sergio
Package: debian-installer
Version: 20090718-19:05

$ cat version.info
Debian version: 6.0 (squeeze)
Installer build: 20090718-19:05

I tried netboot installer from
http://people.debian.org/~joeyh/d-i/images/daily/netboot/netboot.tar.gz
on old PC with PXE loader on NIC.
Automatic network configuration had failed. Thanks to log console, I
explore that it seems it was some global failure with system - just no
normal error detection and handling was made where they should be
done.

Here piece of text I written down from log console (it goes after
'menu: Entering NIC detecting'):
...
hw-detect: Loading PCMCIA bridge driver module: i82365
kernel: Intel ISA PCIC probe: not found.
hw-detect: FATAL: Error inserting i82365

...

Then installer tries to continue (probes DHCP etc) and a number of
warnings Link is down is written to log while installer tries to use
that link and reports to user that possibly user's network or DHCP
is misconfigured...

Well, I would be glad to save log for you (instead of writting it down
from screen and typing it back here to email), but I couldn't: I can't
use web (as network is broken), can't mount disk (I see no /dev/hd* at
all, though /dev/fd{,0} there exist), and may be tomorrow if I found a
floppy I try to use it to save log...

Hardware:
iPentium MMX 233MHz on i430TX-based mainboard, 64M DIMM, IDE HDD,
Intel PRO/100+ ethernet PCI. MS Windows98SE works OK.
