Mismatch between d-i's kernel and kernel in local mirror

2010-04-13 Thread vikram
Hi,

Thank you all for the helping out so far  :)

I am trying to build a Debian(Squeeze) install CD with custom d-i. I checked
out d-i source from
svn://svn.debian.org/svn/d-i/trunk
I placed the installer/build/dest/cdrom into the local mirror's
/dists/squeeze/main/installer-i386/current/images/cdrom directory.

I've used easy-build.sh to build the CD images.

On running the installer i get the following error:
No kernel modules found. This probably is due to a mismatch between the kernel
used by this version of the installer and the kernel available in the archive.

I used Squeeze's DVD image to make the mirror. The d-i uses kernel version
2.6.32-3-486 from kernel-image-2.6.32-3-486-di.udeb, whereas the Squeeze
installation(installed from the same DVD used to make the mirror) on which iam
running Debian-cd has the kernel version 2.6.32-3-686.

How can this be fixed?

Thanks,
Vikram

Hi

I am trying to build a custom debian cd iso image using debian-cd.

I am following the steps mentioned here:
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianCustomCD. I am at the stage where we create the
 actual CD set.

I have setup a local mirror using reprepro.

When i run the make official_images command i get the following error:
 Generating the i386 iso/jigdo images ...
   Last-minute updates:
     README.html
md5sum: ./README.html: No such file or directory
 make: *** [images] Error 1

 How can this be fixed?

Well... try copying  README.html and README.txt into your local
repository's root directory.

regards
Lucas Brasilino

Hi,

os-prober does not detect 64bit systems like Fedora 64.
The /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/90linux-distro script only checks
$dir/lib/ld*.so* but to detect Fedora 64 correctly it must check
$dir/lib64/ld*.so* too.
After that 1 line fix os-prober detects Fedora 64 fine.

Comments/Problems:

I had a problem setting up the net connection for the installation with
DHCP (message said your network is probably not using the DHCP
protocol. Alternatively, the DHCP server may be slow or some network
hardware is not working properly. In my case the server was too slow I
think. I did try several time as the Installation Guide suggests but in
the end I solved the problem by setting the Modem/router to act as a
Modem and I retried the installation loading the ppp-udeb module at boot
and doing the installation via PPPoE.

I'd say the installation went fine for me. I am very happy and using my
new used laptop. I am not sure though my opinion would be widely
accepted since I had to manually install all the graphical system:
package xorg, then gnome-core, iceweasel and other packages I wanted.

Somehow the task selection of the graphical desktop didn't work. I don't
think it was an installer problem, but an aptitude error. The real
problem in my opinion is that there was no visible error message
whatsoever.
It looked like everything went fine but the desktop was not
installed. It would be nice if the user was notified that some packages
were not installed.
In the end manually doing tasksel install gnome-desktop --new-install
I could see a message aptitude ha dato errore (255). (roughly
aptitude gave an error (255))

As I said I am overall very happy with the install, it was much easier
than I expected and easier than the previous installations I did. I was
promptly notified I needed not free firmware for the wireless card and I
was able from the start to put it on a USB pen so that I could have used
it for the installation (if I had access to a wireless connection, that
is).

Thanks for the great job.
beatrice.
