Turkish (which I wrongly listed as tz) moved down as I deliberately
fuzzied a string, in sublevel 3, that was clearly wrongly translated
(no variable matching).

Bug#601318: flash-kernel: Binary package contains Subversion files

2010-10-25 Thread Roland Mas

The flash-kernel package contains two .svn directories, with the usual set of

Re: Copy of installer into squeeze

2010-10-25 Thread Joerg Jaspert
Please copy installer 20101020 into squeeze.
The squeeze installer current is a symlink going to sid/current which
points at whatever you uploaded last.
Do you want me to change that in preparation of the upcoming release, so
that squeeze gets a direct copy of the installer and the current symlink
is local to that, or do you want to wait with this?
Yes, please copy to squeeze the current one and make current link to
it so we have it stable for weekly builds.

Done this is. Fun you have. Test you can.

Bug#601340: Debian Installation asks for rtl8168d-2.fw (but I can't find it and some apps need it to run).

2010-10-25 Thread Felipe FV
Package: rtl8168d-2.fw
Severity: important

When I was installing Debian Squeeze on this PC, I was asked about some non-
free firmware for my NIC (rtl8168d-2.fw). I didn't have it. But anyway, I was
able to install the system (downloading files from the mirror), surf the
internet after the installation (Iceweasel, Epiphany) and even download
updates. The problem is that the network icon always showed the information
connection not present (something like that). The real problems started
when I was trying to use Evolution and configure my e-mail. I realized that it
could not connect because it said no connection. I think it's the lack of
firmware that is affecting these other programs.

Bug#601363: ERROR: Unable to automatically remove LVM data

2010-10-25 Thread Ian Jackson
Package: debian-installer

I'm using the current lenny installer. I have a system with two
disks, one of which I want erased as part of installer partitioning
(and the other of which I will install later).

However, I see this:

!! ERROR: Unable to automatically remove LVM data

Because the volume group(s) on the selected device also consist of physical
volumes on other devices, it is not considered safe to remove its LVM data
automatically. If you wish to use this device for partitioning, please remove
  its LVM data first.
  [Press enter to continue]

This should be a question, rather than a fatal error, so that I can
preseed it to make it go ahead. I don't care if it's not safe; I
should have the option to destroy data.

Ian.

Hello Miguel

The network is OK.
I have tried to install lenny -- it works.
For the lenny installation, i use the same mirror (ftp.de.debian.org).

In the attachement, there is the syslog.
The last messages was written because of plug-in my Sandisk USB stick.

Bug#601381: installation-reports: lenovo x201 laptop with d-i 20101025-09:05

2010-10-25 Thread Simon Josefsson
Package: installation-reports
Severity: normal

Installation went fine except for these issues:

* No wireless WPA2 support. I understand this won't be supported until
squeeze+1
* DHCP configuration did not work, I had to supply IP address manually
* My Windows 7 partitions were not available in the grub boot menu, even though
it recognized that win7 was installed. Running 'update-grub' manually resolved
this.

Comments/Problems:
Installer promped for installation of USB memory stick with the Broadcom
bnx2 firmware set, but wouldn't find the files after I inserted the memory
stick. I had done it this way while trying load Lenny, which worked properly.
(Couldn't use Lenny though, because the PERC H200 isn't supported).

After going to a shell and examining the log, the mount was failing, and
it looked like the mount device for the USB memory was wrong. Was able
to mount manually (mount /dev/sdc1 /media) and verify the USB was readable.
Before trying other options, I rebooted and restarted the
install, this time with the USB stick already inserted. The memory stick
mounted properly this way, and the installation continued normally.

The PERC H200 appears to be functioning correctly.

amd64-i386-powerpc netinst daily image seems to be missing kernel modules

2010-10-25 Thread Lennart Sorensen
I just tried to use today's build of the i386/amd64/powerpc netinst
image, and it complains about not finding any kernel module packages.
Looking on the disc it would appear to have the powerpc packages, but
not the i386 and amd64 packages. This is also true of the one I have
from 2 weeks ago (which I never got around to testing until today).

I think the single architecture images contains the proper packages,
but I didn't try that one yet.

So the multiarch only has:
/mnt/pool/main/l/linux-kernel-di-powerpc-2.6
/mnt/pool/main/l/linux-modules-di-powerpc-2.6

While amd64 only has:
/mnt/pool/main/l/linux-kernel-di-amd64-2.6
/mnt/pool/main/l/linux-modules-di-amd64-2.6

Did multiarch get too large and drop some packages?

Bug#601340: Debian Installation asks for rtl8168d-2.fw (but I can't find it and some apps need it to run).

Hi,

On Mon, Oct 25, 2010 at 08:44:18AM -0200, Felipe FV wrote:
 Package: rtl8168d-2.fw

Thanks for your report.

When I was installing Debian Squeeze on this PC, I was asked about some non-
free firmware for my NIC (rtl8168d-2.fw). I didn't have it. But anyway, I was
able to install the system (downloading files from the mirror), surf the
internet after the installation (Iceweasel, Epiphany) and even download
 updates.

Then this has nothing to do with the NIC firmware. Indeed, as you said and as
mentionned in #601340, the firmware is actually not needed.

Not sure how/if d-i can stop asking for the firmware.

The problem is that the network icon always showed the information
connection not present (something like that). The real problems started
when I was trying to use Evolution and configure my e-mail. I realized that
it could not connect because it said no connection. I think it's the lack
of firmware that is affecting these other programs.

This is #549451 (evolution cannot work when network-manager is in offline mode)
combined
with default network-manager as of today #530024.

As a workaround, edit /etc/network/interfaces and comment references to eth0.

this fails because chroot is in /usr/sbin, which isn't in PATH for
normal users by default anymore. i've attached a preliminary patch that
fixes this in debootstrap, but i wonder if it wouldn't be more
appropriate to change fakeroot instead? it seems like any fakeroot
environment should include /usr/sbin and /sbin in the path, but that
isn't currently the case.
