It would ask me to confirm, and I would confirm and it would return and show the size as 18.9 GB again. I had to escape out of the parition definitions, run fdisk on tty2 to delete partition 3, and renter again on tty1 where it then worked flawlessly. Keep up the great work all! Bug#608965: Attaching logs

Also, tasksel is still failing after the array is rebuilt, so I'm going to reboot and see what happens. I have made several installation with latest installer release (Debian Squeeze RC2) [1] and RAID6 creation has been sucessful without any hassles. I recommend to try use the current installer release, Debian Squeeze RC2, and when you reach partitioning delete any previous raid setup, before setup the wanted raid setup. When you say finish and go back to the main manual partitioning screen, there is no /dev/md0 device listed (or any RAID device at all). It just fails to create it, but does so silently without giving any error. Expected Result: There should have been a /dev/md0 device created or an error should have been reported. Note: I was able to go to the shell and manually create a RAID6 from there and then return to the manual partition screen and it finally showed up. The command I used was, iirc: mdadm --create --verbose /dev/md0 --level=6 --raid-devices=4 /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd1 --spare-devices=1 missing Then I was able to create LVM on top of the RAID and proceed, although it did ultimately fail at software install. I'm wondering if this might be because the RAID array is not done building yet (as reported by cat /proc/mdstat from a shell, so I'm going to let it finish and try the software install again. -- Please make sure that the hardware-summary log file, and any other installation logs that you think would be useful are attached to this report. Bug#562122: Improve preseeding of network device to use
Bumping an old bug. I've preseeded netcfg/choose_interface to auto, to try and avoid the netcfg/choose_interface question being asked. What I suspect is the problem, is the wireless interface is showing link so the question still gets asked. My thoughts on how to extend this functionality was: allow preseeding the interface to use based on: 1) vendor component of the MAC 2) PCI ID 3) some substring of the interface description because preseeding the specific interface by name is a non-starter, due to the way Linux can't consistently enumerate the interfaces. I think that at least selection of the network interface by MAC-address instead of interface name should be possible. There is currently a patch pending for Ubuntu: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/60443113/S31pxedust (belonging to bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/netcfg/+bug/56679 ) Any chance of getting this into Debian as well? -- Yours sincerely, Floris Bos -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. [D-I] Localization system now working nominally
Since D-I switched to git for most of its components, I have been working to convert the l10n-sync script that synchronizes translations from packages/po/sublevel{1-5}/ directories to individual components of Debian Installer. This script is now working as expected and I reinstated regular runs on Tuesdays and Fridays at 22:47 UTC (the script is run under the d-i role account on people.debian.org). As a consequence, translators can now update their translations for D-I level 1 (7 languages are already re-completed). Please notice that these directories are still maintained in SVN and there are currently no plans to switch to git. These translation updates will NOT be used in squeeze. The localization of D-I for squeeze stopped with the release of D-I RC1 and, later on, RC2. Any update in D-I level 1 is now targeted for next versions of D-I and Debian, namely wheezy. No, apt-setup still relies on apt-cdrom mounting the CD. The CD will already be mounted, as it is manually mounted for debootstrap. apt-setup unmounts it, runs apt-cdrom, and re-mounts it. And there are code paths where apt-cdrom cannot mount the CD (for example, hd-media installs), and there apt-setup prevents it doing any mounting and leaves the CD pre-mounted. But none of these should have any bearing on your case, #611569 seems at fault. -- see shy jo signature.asc Description: Digital signature

I've tried to follow instructions in http://www.debian.org/releases/testing/i386/ch04s03.html.en to create a bootable USB disk. What I've done is reuse the files from : http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/dists/testing/main/installer-i386/current/images/hd-media/boot.img.gz and just use a basic syslinux config : default linux append initrd=initrd.gz to get a bootable USB disk of maximum size that indeed will boot an installer. However, whenever inside the installer, the netinst .iso file cannot be found when it searches the disks to find an installable iso image. The iso is named mini.iso (just as downloaded from http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/dists/testing/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/) and sits inside the USB key's first (and only) VFAT partition (which mounts fine from /dev/sdb1 to /hd-media from a shell started inside the installer). Is there a requirement on a special name for iso image files ? Thanks in advance -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- anataka wrote: Then upon further inspection, I found out I've been using the wrong boot.img.gz all along, I only thought I had the one linked above but in fact I was using the i386 one. I had several web pages open and click one thinking i was in another. I started over and it worked. I fixed my own stupidity but still automated scan is nice but imho it could be useful to offer an option to manually enter the path to the iso. I don't think that further complicating the installer with prompts for paths that most users will not find it easy to manually figure out is the right approach. iso-scan already does a 2-pass scan, so unless the user has hidden away the iso very deep on the disk, they can avoid having it recursively scan deeply through all their drives. Anyway, all this is deprecated by hybrid isos that can be written directly to USB disks to make a bootable image, avoiding every single pain point that users have encountered with the piggyback iso and iso-scan. So I expect that iso-scan will soon only be used by users in highly unusual situations (either users who need to boot the installer from an existing partition with no removable media at all, or users who cannot afford a dedicated cheap USB stick). -- see shy jo signature.asc Description: Digital signature ---End Message---

Bug#610524: Preseed: Debian Installer asks for keyboard-configuration/variant
reassign 610524 keyboard-configuration thanks Dennis Hoppe, le Thu 27 Jan 2011 12:05:40 +0100, a écrit : i am using the following two images: http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/daily/arch-latest/multi-arch/iso-cd/debian-testing-amd64-i386-netinst.iso http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/squeeze_di_rc2/i386/iso-cd/debian-squeeze-di-rc2-i386-netinst.iso I also added the following line to isolinux/txt.cfg and remastered the image to save some typing. label basic menu label ^Install (basic) kernel /install.386/vmlinuz append auto=true priority=critical vga=791 file=/cdrom/preseed/basic.cfg initrd=/install.386/initrd.gz DEBCONF_DEBUG=5 -- quiet Ok, it helps a lot to have an idea what it might be happening when you give more details. Since you were talking about console-setup configuration I thought you were using the gtk image (which uses console-setup for keyboard configuration instead of kbdchooser), and was thus testing that, which would actually prevent the bug from happening. According to your screenshot, the question is actually asked by the _installed_ keyboard-configuration, which doesn't get enough information from d-i to know which variant to choose. That being said, I'm still unable to reproduce the issue. I have - taken http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/squeeze_di_rc2/i386/iso-cd/debian-squeeze-di-rc2-i386-netinst.iso , - put your basic.cfg into preseed/ , - appended file=/cdrom/preseed/basic.cfg to the kernel command line in txt.cfg , - rebuilt the image using genisoimage, - booted it, - chosen the text installer, - chosen German - chosen Deutschland - chosen Deutsch keyboard From then on everything happens up to rebooting into a freshly installed system. I have also tried with english/US/german, and english/US/USA, still the same. Where is the difference? (Maybe you could upload the image you have produced, to make sure we have at least the same image). IPv6 in d-i stage 2: autoconfiguration
I've put pre-built images for amd64 and i386 at http://people.debian.org/~mpalmer/ipv6/ that handle most forms of IPv6 autoconfiguration: * address/gateway via router solicitation/advertisement; * Recursive DNS resolvers via router solicitation/advertisement; * hostname/domain via reverse DNS This gets us most of the way to full IPv6 support. All that's left now is stateless and stateful DHCPv6, which (given that all of the necessary configuration can be provided by other means) is a lower priority for me (though it will still definitely get done). I've also put up a wiki page, http://wiki.debian.org/MattPalmer/IPv6, which contains up-to-date info on everything, and will be kept up to date as progress continues. Heavy testing and comments appreciated. - Matt -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#611599: Maybe a ADSL option in installer(squeeze) is better to me
Package: installation-reports Boot method: CD-RW Image version: /i386/iso-cd/debian-squeeze-di-rc1-i386-netinst.iso from http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/ Date: 2011.l.28--1.30 Machine: DIY, Intel mainboard ,NVIDIA MX440 Processor: Memory: Partitions: partitions by myself , 9.7G ext4 Output of lspci -knn (or lspci -nn): Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot: [Note] Detect network card:[O] Configure network: [NO DHCP,I have ADSL ] Detect CD: [O] Load installer modules: [O] Detect hard drives: [O] Partition hard drives: [O] Install base system:[O] Clock/timezone setup: [O] User/password setup:[O] Install tasks: [O] Install boot loader:[O] Overall install:[?] What is it mean? erase old data in partation? I format it. Comments/Problems: 1. I use boot from CDROM (squeeze_netinst_RC1), IT dead in mainboard LOGO(Intel MB) ,and I find the CD is OK(bootable in other PC). My win XP driver and PPPOE fauit(It be OK for a long time),HW is a old 3COM netcard. After change a realtek 8139D netcard, the boot is OK. I don't know if install_rc1 cause 3COM netcard bad ?It's not important, it's too old and only one, I have some RL8139D netcard . (If in this netcard bad situation, can installer jump it and pop a message say: Not find netcard (NIC) in your system . ? - 2. I'm in china , many people use ADSL in home. And I use graph install (shell Install I think no problem) Install try to find DHCP , and after fault, I input 192.168.x.x something. Maybe a ADSL option in installer(squeeze) is better to me? like: 1. Local network with DHCP (Had a gateway to internet) 2. ADSL use pppoe (You know your username and password) This may faster to beginer. 3. After I use expert mode to install pppoe, I find pppoeconf is in NETINST cdrom. But if I choise a sources mirror in GRAPHINSTALL mode, I lost deb cdrom in sources.list. Can you add this for me? NETINST is default in sources.list (deb cdrom xx) After user choise sources mirror, display a message : nbsp; You must use apt-get update before apt-get install anything When the squeeze is ok, if user (beginer) use : apt-get install xx and get nothing , give this message: Is the software in the list? Maybe use apt-get update first. 4. In console, the text is too small, oh my eyes In etch lenny It's OK (Other PCs), maybe add a item in grub2 (big text)? I should add vga=7xx something? I'll test afterwork... THANK all of you . Description of the install, in prose, and any thoughts, comments and ideas you had during the initial install.
