Debian won't install via businesscard

2012-07-12 Thread Rodolfo Medina
Hi all.

I couldn't find a solution to my problem on the web.

From:

 http://www.us.debian.org/CD/netinst/

I downloaded the file debian-6.0.5-i386-businesscard.iso and burned it onto CD,
then tried to install Debian on my pc. Everything went fine until the `install
the base system' step, when the following error message appeared:

 Debootstrap Error
Failed to determine the codename for the release

and it was impossibile to continue. I also tried copying the iso file onto usb
pendrive and also tried to install Debian onto another machine but the error
occurred again and again. Please help if you can.

Thanks in advance
Rodolfo

Last minutes changes.

2012-07-12 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Hello Samuel,

it's really not appreciated to see last minute changes to the d-i git
repository when one has been trying to get stuff in shape for weeks,
and trying to get some feedback of involved people (without much success
anyway, I must be doing it wrong). Surely you could have pinged?

(Yes it's about hurd “only” or whatever, but that doesn't change the
fact one has to prepare everything again, meaning needs for build power,
network access, but also free time.)

Oops, really? I had no idea it could have such effect, that's why I
didn't ping, sorry about that. You could perhaps just revert it for
now to avoid having to rebuild it? (I'm not sure to understand why the
rebuild is needed exactly, since we can tag the actual commit that was
built).

Thanks.

I think I have push access myself. I used to have access to the old
monolithic svn (for Xen porting work). I presume it has been carried
over to the git trees. So I can push myself after beta 1 assuming no one
minds ;-) or beats me to it...

I'll still need to ping Hector for an upload though (ENOTADD).

Comments/Problems:

There were no problems with the installation itself.

One thing that I have stumbled about is that the default Xfce
installation contains both xfburn (Xfce CD burning application)
and brasero (GNOME CD burning application). Xfce is usually used
for lightweight setups, so I think there should be only one
CD burning application installed by default.

Bug#680668: Updating chinese-t-desktop in tasksel for Wheezy.

2012-07-12 Thread Andrew Lee
Dear Yao, FourDollars and all Traditional Chinese users,

2012/7/11 Yao Wei (魏銘廷) m...@lxde.org:
 Some recommendations on input method:

SCIM somehow stopped their maintenance. (But seems their maintenance
 started again by another people.)

Thanks to confirm. The upstream is not dead.

Anyway, I would hope using IBus as a default recommendation, followed
by some common input methods that can type Chinese. Such as:

 ibus-chewing | gcin-chewing | hime-chewing | fcitx-chewing |
 fcitx-libpinyin | scim-chewing

The problem is not just be able to typing Chinese here. The tasksel
designs for normal users
who doesn't know how to install packages in debian.

So it would be nice to have an overview from nontechnical users' point
of view. which input
method are mostly user friendly and attractive for even non-debian users?

Everyone I've polled who has installed ibus for nontechnical users has
had to switch out ibus
due to its non-staleness and non-user-friendliness. Technical users
who want ibus or
whatever will have no difficulty installing it.

and some table-based input methods and so on...

Which table do you mean here?

im-switch needs to update to im-config too, because im-switch is
deprecated and IME maintainers now recommend using im-config.

Done.

And, as my personal (and many users') favorite, Wen Quan Yi Micro Hei
(文泉驛微米黑) seems like a good system typeface, so I would recommend:
 ttf-wqy-microhei | ttf-wqy-zenhei

The comment says seems openjdk needs this to display Chinese.
Can you please confirm which fonts are needed for display Chinese in openjdk?

Hi!

Here is a little patch to support executable .desc files. This way one
can dynamically create the list of available tasks, for example
consulting an alternative source of information (e.g. debtags).

I'd use such trick for the A/DeMuDi CDD.

Cheers,

Bug#461110: Status of this bug report

2012-07-12 Thread Christian PERRIER
From what I read in this bug report, it suggest *two* things:

- include important packages in the standard task
- make it possible to unselect them

Joey clearly answered no to the second question, with the basic
argument that a package one would want eventually to drop from
important is probably not belonging to important. I buy that.

I haven't seen an answer to the *first* question, so I'll make
mine. The purpose of putting a package in standard is.exactly
having it installed by default on default installs.

So, merging important into standard just makes the distinction between
standard and important pointless. I'm *very* tempted to mark this bug
as wontfix.

I'd rather buy the idea of having an important task, then maybe even
other priorities but maybe extra.

Your package contains new components which requires manual editing of
the override file. It is ok otherwise, so please be patient. New
packages are usually added to the override file about once a week.
